Agree with everything you said about 02's. I think I've owned about 12 or 14 in my lifetime. My first was when I was 22 and I still have one now at 54 and love them just as much. Really like the split rim wheels on this car. I'm hoping to find some for my #bmw16v02 eventually. Anyway, Happy Christmas David and all the best for 2021!
Wow those windows. They don't make 'em any more, possibly just because they need to sell you air conditioning. My first car was a 1985 Autobianchi A112 (yes, Italian guy here) and it had that kind of windows. You don't even need to turn 'em open that much, 10 to 45 degrees is all what you really need. They work at speed (outstandigly) by literally sucking the air from the cockpit and flowing it outside. Back then I used to be a smoker, and I recall the system worked also perfectly in sucking out the smoke and even ashes.
The 2002faq is the best resource for knowledge on these cars. For parts, wallothnesch, Ireland engineering, blunt tech and autohausAZ are all quite good! Hope that helps
I remember the small cabin air-exits below the trunk lid, hardly enough for a full car (I liked my extra bought heated window!) and how it lifted the inner back-wheel during fast cornering, at least the 2002 model with two bars, one in each end. And the original seats in front, being too short for comfort for a man of reasonable high, so I changed mine to a special seat. But I liked them much, anyway.
Don't forget to make sure the clown previous owner didn't stuff a turbo from a Cummins diesel under the hood...ruins the resale value. I like what you did with the chickenwire headlight guards! Also, there's a little rectangular tube that supports the side of the trunk under the car right behind the rear wheels. These love to rot out because they get blasted by grit all day. And sunroof cars are the best but ya gotta reroute the drains. It's great seeing other creators with a passion for these goofy nuggets.
I am really enjoying your videos. Do you know the history of the car? I knew a guy in College in Worcester MA who had one in that color (no aftermarket parts on his car). He was from Columbia and he said the roads were so bad there, that there was no point in trying to bring the car home when he finished school.
I just got a red one! Her name is Peggy Sue. I’m trying to replace the water pump so if you or anyone has any tips, please let me know. I’m pulling my hair out.
@@huckodonnell I wouldn’t pay more than $5,000 Rust repair and body and paint will cost a premium, unless you are able to do it yourself, I would just drive it rusty until I found a better example, don’t get me wrong, it’s a cool car
Lovely car of yours in this nice video.
No videos for 4 months and suddenly, 2 videos on the same day. You are spoiling us... :)
I agree with all of the typical rust spots you mentioned - plus also the rocker panels. 2nd gear synchro is also a common issue.

Thanks man, once I pay off my car I'm getting a 2002. This video is gonna pay dividends when the time comes.

Love your videos. They are addicting.... I have 2 of them a ‘68 roundie and a ‘74 tii.
Nice! That’s a sweet combo! I’ll love to find myself an early car again!
Wheel well and sunroof drainage canals rust as well.
harder and harder to find... best cars ever...would like to hear the story of how you found this one...great cars!!!!
They also rust a lot around floor pan drains when the seam sealer fails! I had a lot of fabrication there when I did paint & body on my 69.
This is true!
Thanks for the video - have driven them and am now in the market and have / had no idea where to start.
Loving your videos, David. Would you be willing to post some resources for buying parts, components, whole cars?

Just gonna put this comment here as I'm looking into doing a full resto on mine...
you dont know , just getting your hands on a 2002 is a priceless experience
There is one for sale up the street from me. It's rough around the edges but over all good condition, totally drivable

These bumpers 😆 Great car! Great colour.
Great video, I love these cars!!
Thanks! Me too! :)
They were so cheap to buy in the mid to late 90s. Bought a rusty daily driver for $500 in 1996.
Cool little car
Bought a 72 - 02 last year and I still haven't fixed it😅
Hello David. Was that an original color for the car? Do you know how much one like that goes for these days? Best Simon
Prices are skyrocketing(Jan '21)- there's a '72 tii on autotrader classics- recent resto southern California- asking $80K(!!??)
Love it man
HOW MANY MILES AND HOW MUCH IS THE COST.?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
1970 BMW WAR CAN I GAT PARTS FORIT .
MY DREAM
1st the green is best looking color however I still can move past you have not rinsed the car before starting to wash it with a mitt.
In 45 years and a dozen 02s never encountered a head gasket issue.
My first car in 1996 was 1970 2002 and it ultimately suffered a blown headgasket.
Any advice as to where to find/purchase one?
BMW 2002 FAQ is a good spot to start!
Interested when you are ready to sell.

Those are great points! Sunroof drains definitely need to be kept clean. Thanks!
How much you paid for this car?

Single overhead cam not dual.
"Entry level classic car" ...the prices on these seems to be pretty high to be an "entry level" purchase.

I LILKE IT UT MODEL IS 1970-1974
1976 is the worst year. Gross bumpers and have to pass smog.
A lot of cruisy positive words
