Papa sorted that 2002 well. Add lightness and GO! That "pop pop pop" of the exhaust is pure joy. This 2002 is tight, handles on a dime and is a blast. This 2002 has the DNA that has been given to its descendants.
This 2002 is not the fastest, has zero modern tech etc. But The 2002 is a little tiger who gives its all every time. That endears it to everyone.
Thanks for the gift, Papa.
Hey I'm sorry but I didn't get who Papa is
@@guilhemsd2949 whatch the video dude
@@guilhemsd2949 the previous owner who worked at bond group
Tedward, that's a beauty!! Nobody needs 600hp if you have one of those. My brother in law bought a '74 2002tii right after I bought a '73 240Z. We used to race all the time. He'd always beat me by a bumper off the line then it was dead even until one of us ran out of balls. Brought back great memories... THANK YOU!!👍
Kids like my generation will never understand that it isn't about the power, it's the fun factor.
can we take a moment to talk about the satisfying click when opening the door? 2:45. i love it.
the modern BMW at 14:30 has more power, but gues who has more fun.
My aunt drove a white 2002 back in the days. I loved it, but 1976 she got the all new 323i. Oh boy, what an upgrade...
Great video as always
Greetings from Germany
Saw a mint 2002 last night casually parked in front of my local Wegmans & talked with the owner for a while. Seeing it amongst all the modern eco bubbles of the day really puts it into perspective, as it was the 1st time I got to see one in the flesh. Man, the future of driving is pure sh*t. We need to go back.
No future for car enthusiasts unfortunately, governments will make sure of that.
The 2002 are such an incredible car. My dad used to work on these and said they are a very good car and drive like they are on rails. 2002 tii are amazing. Great video, brother.
i love everything the 2002 stands for, and the story about this particular one makes it all the more special!
I had one like this in high school blue like this one as well. I learned to drive stick in it and went on many adventures. My mom sold it after I got in the Army. I really miss that car.
those pops are insane
100% a bucket list car for me. So much to love about the 2002, especially ripping around on 195's 😅
That looks like a really nicely sorted driver. As you might expect it's something of a Frankenstein. Yes, it's a '76 (the center exhaust pipe is unique to that year). The 5-speed is from a 320i (E21). If the motor is really 1600cc, then it's from the earlier 1600 (but with the later valve cover). The sidedrafts are clearly not stock. Some other nice retro touches: the trapezoidal mirrors are from an earlier car, as is the passenger seat. The handbrake looks like it's from something later (a 320i?). Perhaps my favorite feature of the '02 are the floor mounted pedals, which are perfectly placed for heel and toe, better than any other car I've driven. That and the panoramic greenhouse. It takes a real enthusiast to get excited about this car despite the low (by modern standards) horsepower!
It takes a discerning driver to fully appreciate low horsepower! I have what turns out to be the fastest production, naturally aspirated, 6-cylinder BMW ever built in my garage, yet despite the BMW being a beautiful car, I prefer my Miata most of the time (especially on 2° roads). Just as there are other, finer values than money, there are other, finer values than horsepower! Low horsepower allows us to drive our cars hard, without getting killed or arrested! It allows us to concentrate on shifting and handling, rather than just hanging on! It permits us to enjoy the scenery better as well. The arguments for low hp are numerous. I have just scratched the surface!
Loved the sound of the exhaust opened. With small underpowered cars it about maintaining speed through corners.
What a beautiful car and that sound is awesome.
How the saying goes: Its more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow.
Rest in Peace to the owner. Sounded like a genuinely nice guy with a great taste for cars.
I don't think there are any old BMWs that drive badly - they were such driver-focused cars. Some of the newer ones though, not so much. This 2002 sounds lovely! A neighbour of mine has the very similar 1600TI, also fully restored, which was not sold in the US due to emissions regulations - the 2002 replaced it and was sold in the US.
Tedward, respect to you for honoring Papa. I didn’t know him. It’s awesome that you dedicated the video to him and are respecting his drive. I believe he would be honored. You’re a good man. Respect! ✊🏾
I appreciate that 🙏
Never thought I'd see my dream car on this channel, thanks for another high quality video, Ted!
that's what I'm saying
These are pops & bangs I like to hear, these are pops & bangs I respect and can get behind, none of that goofy "popcorn" Golf R ahh type stuff. Never been a big fan of such old BMWs, yeah they look good but never had my interest though although it is nice to see one that someone took good care of. I think my favourite parts lookwise are the tiny dash and a clean gauge cluster.
Sad to know about your friend passing 😕.
That 2002 is an awesome legacy
It sounds fantastic with the exhaust open.
Yeeees! Thank you for working the manual sunroof. I love manual sunroofs and nobody ever works them on video. 😁. God bless Papa’s memory, he had amazing taste. Love this little car! ❤️
I ALMOST forgot to but remember to do it just at the end 😂
@@TedwardDrives it’s a weird auto fetish of mine but I just get a kick out out manual crank stuff along with all the clickity old stuff like hearing an old German car door open and close. Just feeds some weird asmr satisfaction. 😅
I had to lol at the trunk, and the sight of how little is between you and a distracted SUV driver. The first words that popped into my mind were "death trap," but _so worth it._
I miss having a light car with no steering assist whatsoever. Magical combo.
sorry to hear about your friend...may he rest in peace....my favorite car of all times and handled like a dream
The most fun car to drive I've owned, superb handling on small curvy roads.
My 76 02 was the most fun car I've owned and I've owned a lot of fun cars. Currently I've got five NA Miatas, but I will have another 02 one day soon!
Absolutely gorgeous automobile sorry for your loss Tom such a great way to honor a friend
Had a 1600-2 and now a '74 2002 (absolute stock) and I am always amazed by how 'modern' it drives. And by modern, I mean it drives almost like a recent economy car which is an amazing testament to a ~50 y/r old vehicle. Grin machine.
The dream I'mma own one of these in my lifetime
Always wanted one, never had one, yet. Looks like a great back road bomber! It may be an antique, but it seems to drive like a BMW! Thanks for the ride!
I’m so glad you decided to review the 2002!!!! I love mine and want to spread the word of the joy and beauty to everyone. Thank you!!
As a guy who just got done reviving a totally rusted out 76, let me just say that Papa's dedication to get that sunroof working right should be mentioned. The 02s aren't the worst sunroof design BMW ever made (I give that title to the e21), the lack of replacement cables (substitute new from a Volvo), and the dang tight clearances the panel has to to make so as to not scrape paint, and the ease of gunking up the liner with grease and dirt, it all makes doing them sunroofs a serious PITA. Overal, that's a nice looking 02.
Also, the A pillar pop out windows are such a fun thing on these cars. Those, the wing windows and sunroof open move so much air I've neverminded the lack of AC on these very much at all.
The sunroof of my 1986 e30 also trapped water somewhere into the chassis. That's why when I "upgraded" to my actual 1976 e21, scooping the market I made sure it was a no sunroof example.
Amen about the front pop out little windows. Big shame the e21 miss them. My first car was an Autobianchi A112 and opening only those tiny windows made an entire world of difference in refreshing the interior (and I live in Italy, where summers can be quite hot). If you opened them just a little they were also very effective in sucking out cigarette smoke and almost everything else ;-)
Love it! Thank you for getting one of these filmed. I love these little BMWs. I have a 79 E21, and driving it is my happy place for sure.
i love this thing! such a sweet ride. awesome video Tedward! I think this thing sounds better than an e46 m3 lol
Great cars and I like what he did to it! I looked into these in the past, but could never find on in my price range that wasn't rotted.
6:46 “…happy little car.” Yep. That sums it up! 🙂
Love these videos always
Regret selling my '72. Swapped out the aging BMW carb for a Weber .. my mechanic called me mean names. Still, what a fun car!
My dream car! Love this thing. Keep up the good work tedward👍!
Now you need to find an Alfa GTV to complete the 70s sport sedan duo.
Such an awesome car! Thanks for sharing
Always dreamed of having one of these or an e30, but man they are just getting more and more rare and exponentially more expensive.
This thing looks so awesome 🔥🔥
BMWs in the 70s/80s were so much better looking those days. The E30 3 series, E24 M635i CSi, E3 2500/3.0 si saloon, E9 3.0CSL etc. were brilliant drivers cars and in my opinion still look better than the current offerings. Power output is not everything. The exhaust note was awesome!!
That is a beautiful 2002. I remember a buddy of mine had one when we were young (19 or so), and those things were easy to find on the market. Now? Good luck, lol! Right on, Ted!
People moan about 1970s domestic cars being slow, but I love these sports coupes of the era like this 2002, Alfa GTV, Fiat 124 Coupe and Dino Coupe, Ford Capri, etc. This 02 is particularly lovely. I’d trade my E30 and Z3 for it in a heartbeat. ❤. (I love old houses, cars, furniture, clothing, etc.)
Awesome car i love BMW thats my favorite car !!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I think Tedward's "jumps [right] to life" is like Bob Ross' "beat the devil out of it". I always wait for it and I'm almost never disappointed haha 😊
My dad used to own a red 2002, this is the video I’ve been waiting for
looks and sounds fenomenal to drive! keep up de awsome video's!
Now, these are the kinda kidney grills I like :D
Ive always loved the 2002 and the old-style 3-, 5- and 6-series in particular. Now the BMW design is...an acquired taste? Tjat exhaust note as well and the MOMO steering wheel - just gorgeous!!
My first car was an unmodded ‘76 2002. Lovely little car
These cars really were the first sport sedans. Much better quality and practicality than similar Alfa Romeos of the era. And real size humans can fit inside. It's better to have a smaller engine that you use a lot of, than a larger engine that barely breaks a sweat 😊
Beautiful car with a beautiful blue color ^^ my uncle had severals 2002 , a ti a touring a TII and a turbo version ^^ , that face that shark nose that noise (melody ^^ ) the era when a cars was a cars !
Magical video.
Now this is my jam.
An older Italian guy has a red one in my town. I see him putting around all over. There's an original Golf in my town too, its not in great shape but its still going!
this car sounds glorious
I would love to drive this car. Great video!
Great cars, owned a 74 2002 tii ,loved it standard hp on mine i believe was around 148,it scotted pretty good
8:40 sounds like a spicy cam
Wow, this car is a beauty. I would love to own it!
Du machst die besten Auto Videos. Weiter so 👏🏻
Danke!
I am fortunate to have driven the 2002 and the 2002tii.
Seldom known fact, the roof is super strong. Won't crush in a roll over.
you can really see why the 2002 turbo was such a great race car
This is a total Tedward kind of car.
9:55 that's exactly why my daily drive is a March 1976 e21 even though I'm a dad of two kids.
PS LOLOL at 14:21
Love to see you gush over a lightly massaged, base 2002! I have a '73. and it's interesting to see they switched the turn signal - on mine, it's reversed - the left hand switch is purely for the high beams. I kind of like it, long, thin and tactile. I suppose not everyone liked it!
what’s your favorite car you’ve gotten to drive? also if you ever get to do a video with a dodge ram with a cummins in it i think that would be awesome!!
Lol, at 14:20 that 5 series is like "You wanna race?"
Amazing video. Is this the oldest BMW you showcased on your channel? Hopefully we get to see you drive a E64 M6 with a manual.
3:31 BMW 2002 : 100 HP , 2002 TI : 120 HP , 2002 TII : 130 HP , 2002 TURBO : 170 HP , that 2002 with 2 dual Carbs can make +/- 115 Hp ^^
thats a car right there
Beautiful car. Those 02s were amazing cars, fast and nimble. Pity about those non original rims. Over here we also had the economy model, the 1502.
Thanks for this video, can you make more videos about pov drive?
I'm restoring a BMW 2002 TII, can you make mor videos about this car in pov
Beautiful car. But, man - I'd feel so scared and exposed driving around in it. The reason it - and, other older cars - seem to have so much room is because their sheet metal is literally as think as tissue paper!
That is so much peppier than my e30 325i which is sadly an automatic. Now I want a 2002😂😂😂
Loving that double clutch to second. Gotta keep that gear happy.
What a beauty. Wish it featured the round back light clusters. Also, the American regulation side reflectors do not contribute to the perfect lines of this car.
I actually die IT in time eventho i am working rn i am here
14:21 I thought shit was about to go down
as its a 2002 i think that means its a 2.0 litre engine which made about 120hp
genial car
Perfect!BMW SERIES 02,"ABSOLUTELY MACHINE DRIVE"!!We have the same model since 1976 in Athens -Greece BMW 1602.What is your exhaust system?Thank you.
You can almost hear this car screaming with a German accent: “Your American speed limits are pathetic! I want to be on the autobahn!”.
❤
Bob Parr's car?
Where was this filmed?
I want exhaust stock!
I commented this while drinking
Got Fiat 128 vibes in BMW mode
Is this from 1976 or 2002? 🧐
Lately i have started to appreciate old school cars. What a difference between a old bmw grill vs the new grill uggh the new ones are ugly ❤😂
The 2002 is the car that made BMW
Is it a 1976 or a 2002? 😂
edit: sorry for your loss
bitrate too low
thats your connection, not my video quality.
for once i thought this was alfa giulia
I consider that to be plenty fast…
dis made me cÜm on my cat
Looove these classics videos. Always the best reviews on UA-cam Tom 🤌
