It's so nice to see that being done properly. In 1993 i bought a yellow 1976 2002tii. It needed a lot of cosmetic work really but all I did was have a close ratio box and a 4 branch manifold fitted. I think I had it rebored too. It kept breaking down which meant I had to sell it as I had a baby girl. She just turned 30. She lives in Berlin. I was one of the first people to drive an Audi TT when it was originally made in the late 90s. I went to the factory in Bavaria.

I am in the middle of a full resto on a '76, I've already torn down my front subframe and it is being powder coated now. And I ran into many of the same issues you did. Nice welds and GREAT video!

Your welds are pretty good, you should do a tutorial on how to weld properly.

Nice work. This summer I will have to do struts/shocks on my 2002. It leans a lot in corners currently. Thanks for the video

If it leans lots in the corners you might have to look into different sway bars. Sport shocks will
      make a difference too!

@davidsgarage thank you so much for your video series on 2002s. I watched your bumper videos several times before replacing mine.
I'm about to do the front suspension and this video is huge for prep!
Any chance you have a template you could share for the piece you welded in by the engine mount?
I'm going turbo on my rebuild, so prolly will benefit from doing what you did there!

Great job on the step by step video. I am a Big fan now David. I own several classic cars including two BMW 2002s a 1974 and a 1972 BMW "roundie". My challenge is to re do the interior upholstery, pillars, and headliner. What is your best advice for seat coverings and side door panels restoration? Saleem

Thank you! I believe you can buy new door cards and side panels. Might not be cheap though!

Strange that your ball joints are riveted in. I'm working on a TII that's a few years older and the ball joints were bolted in. Didn't look like they were ever drilled out either.

Have you posted episode 2 of this? Would be great to see how installed your control arm bushing

    • @PapaG701
      @PapaG701 3 роки тому

Install those in under 3 minutes each with no heartache. Wrap the centers with rebar wire, lube the inside of arms and the bushings with Dawn, pull the bushing in with a homemade press and slowly unwrap the rebar wire as you go.

Hey man, nice video! Inspiring, for sure. 👍🏻
My 75 '02 has the same play in the steering box. 😟 Did you fix it yourself, or get it reconditioned? That's pretty much the only thing I couldn't find in your excellent series. I love to do things myself, but there are limits! Like, say, welding... 😬

I'm about to do this process to my 1972 02, and was wondering how you put the wish bone piece back together after drilling out the riveting? Like can we get away with putting bolts afterward or re-riveting is required? Thanks! Awesome work and thanks for posting it!

    • @davidsgarage

Thank you! Yeah the ball joints are just bolted back in, no more rivets.
