    • @Vanderyn
      @Vanderyn 4 роки тому +16

      How the hell people still don't know this is beyond me: the developers went with bronze-age Egypt on purpose so they wouldn't have another Greek faction. It was not a mistake, but a choice.

    • @AudieHolland
      @AudieHolland 3 роки тому +4

      @@Vanderyn That, and they used the Rome Total War engine for the first time, before the game was released, in a tv show which detailed a Bronze Age battle between Egypt and the Hittite Empire. The Battle of Kadesh, I believe.
      So when they finalized the game, I guess they thought they'd kill two birds with one stone. Why not use those Bronze Age skins and models they had worked so hard to look right?
      For non-historical people: the Battle of Kadesh took place in 1274 BC. or about 1000 years before the time of Rome Total War starts.
      Imagine if they'd made a Total War game portraying the D-Day landings on June 1944.
      Okay, so let's also use these cool Normandic units that even originated from Normandy!
      Uh, I'm not sure. Archers, armoured cavalry? How's that going to work on the Normandy Invasion Beaches?
      Simple. Those Norman cavalry are about as effective and as strong as any Allied WW2 medium tank!
      But they also get one shot killed by German Tiger tanks.

    Domus Dulcis Domus (Home Sweet Home) is located near St Perersburg and some of the developers (Artem Kulakov) were from that city, so I assume he was referring to his home.

    There's another reference in Rome Total War. When as a Roman faction you declare a war on someone the Senate doesn't want you fighting against, in the Senate Policy menu there will be a comment starting with a phrase "War, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing", quoting the lyrics of the song "War" by Edwin Starr.

    Once I was playing with Julii, and I unleashed war hounds against gauls in a particular battle. Then I saw something most peculiar, the animation of a small dog spawned at the edge of the battle map and it ran all across the battlefield, I couldnt attack it, couldnt command it, it was just a dog (something like a small scotish terrier) running at full speed. I won the battle and never saw that pup again. Anyone else ever saw that?

    I don't know if you'd consider it an Easter egg per se, but in Medieval II if you invade Brittany as either England or France (I tried with Spain, Portugal, and Denmark and couldn't get it, but maybe I was just unlucky) there's a chance "Pierre Abaelard" will join your general's retinue. Abelard was a real cool cat; look him up if you don't know anything about him. As far as I know, there are no other medieval philosophers featured as auxiliaries in the game. Either that, or I'm not fulfilling the prereqs to get them.

    I know you haven't played Empire Total War a lot (or at all) but I like it because I can play as the Dutch.
    Anyway, the Swedish ambassador, when he dismisses your offers, replies with, "I don't want to talk about things we've gone through, Sir."

    Er whenever I've heard/read references to the Hesperides, they've been called the ''Nymphs of evening and sunset'', the "Daughters of the Evening" or "Nymphs of the West" found in the far west of the world. Usually located near the Atlas mountains in North Africa, sometimes in southern Iberia. Not Hyperborea.
    I did just find this: ''They were usually said to live in the west beyond the sunset, but the Greek poet and grammarian Apollonius of Rhodes (3rd century bc) placed them in North Africa, and the mythographer Apollodorus (2nd century bc) located them among the Hyperboreans''.
    So I dunno about that Tree thing, if that IS what it stands for, then it's probably in the wrong place...
