- Welcome to some Easter Eggs in Total War. Some of these you will know, however, some of these you probably wont.
This video will look into Easter Eggs for Rome 1 and Medieval 2 +DLC as they are the most popular on my channel, and easy to access the game files for, making easter eggs easier to find.
- There may be a Part 2, as I know I missed a lot. There may also be another video that explores newer titles.

ANNO 502 = Year of the Consulship, pre-Julian Calendar... A.D. = ANNO Domino, ... For that last ‘Easter Egg’
You missed two easter eggs in RTW:
-There is a province called Domus Dulcis Domus which means Home Sweet Home in Latin
-When you build an aqueduct, you can see a sentence in the building announcement screen that says ''what have the Romans ever done for us'' which is a Monty Python reference
English language: codes
melkor: kerds
english language: money
melkor:munnehh
If we're counting the Amazon settlement in Rome 1 then I think it's good to mention the settlement 'domus dulcis domus' which translates to 'home sweet home'. I always liked that the developers added that touch.
Wheres that?
@@seanpchristy west of the Amazon settlement, in the province 'Locus Barbaricum'
Tomasz Losinski and legend has the amazon city as the worst city in town me of his top 5 vids due to public order issues, lack of money due to corruption despite a gold mine up there and difficult travel to get there makes getting troops there impossible etc.
just cuz of that i looked and i found it
ANNO 502 means year 502. Rome starts 502 years after the founding of Rome (A.U.C.). They probably wanted to use Roman calendar but then decided to go mainstream.
It could also refer to the year 502 BC. Rome became a Republic in 509 BC and fought the Sabine War in 501 BC. It might have been a sort of Rise of Rome campaign that was cut.

The first time I played Rome Total War, somehow a Rebel faction got its hands on two Yutseb elephants and let me tell you, seeing those things appear on the horizon scared me like nothing else. But the best part was that I had never seen elephants in Total War at that point, so I thought that was just the actual size of the elephants in-game. Needless to say I was disappointed when I saw actual elephants later on.
Using banana bombs should be considered a war crime.
It is actually.
Cluster bombs are banned by rules of war.
One reason is that to this day unexploded "grapes" are found from Vietnam and they keep killing and hurting people ocasionally even decades after the war.
As a Georgian the mountain regions were difficult to convert but it isn't like they stayed hertic
They were forced to convert but I think it is more of a glitch than an Easter egg because the mountains don't have a reputation for being hertic or hard to convert
XD Yeah, I don't actually recall and mountain been converted. : )
what about them having the devs names on the gravestones in the churches in med 2
How did I forget that one? : )
That's a good testament to their salary. :v
@@RREDesigns 😁nice
@@RREDesigns what?
It's not logan it's rogan! Cheat Unit: Elephant Artillery
Stupid Lanky, giving me the wrong code XD
But why this word? It's a taunt too in Age of empire 2, what does this mean? :x
Rogan?
Zogontar!
Wololo
Probably because English people don't know the difference between r and l
I encountered Yutseb Elephants while putting down a gladiator rebellion... was a hell of a shock to see them as my men scaled the walls.
Wow, did not know it was possible for them to spawn in a normal campaign, thought only by cheats. Wow XD
MELKOR I remember years ago just playing a campaign way before I even knew how to adjust any files and running into them in a rebel settlement and having thousands killed trying to fight them.
The audience probably didnt watch Monty Python as there were many references to them :l
5:30 that's the screen used for Provincial Campaigns that don't exist in vanilla
Yeah, sadly I figured that one out a day after uploading. The one at 5:55 is also, apparently, the image used when the Civil War begins.
Super banana bomb, man that takes me back to Worms 2
Themiskyra was actually easy to find in Rome TW because the paper map that came with the game contained all the settlements on the map... including this one, so I sent a stack up there to find it.
Istambul was probably a code because it was the other name for Constantinople, and was heavily bombarded by the Ottomans during the siege. Just a guess idk.
The Georgian ghost area i would think would be to represent the remaining off map muslim population which would explain the ramp up to conversion difficulty in Georgia
Yo this is dope I just knew the Amazonian woman in Russia in Rome total war and the most of the cheat codes
The first time I met the Yutseb Elephants was when a province revolted against my rule. The AI somehow got these guys.
One siege later, and of all the units peasants got the kill. I guess they really wanted Elephant meat.
5:25 that's the map that shows up when you unlock factions not meant to be played with via simple note pad editing in the RTW files and then when you select them in the faction display for a campaign, instead of showing the normal map with the allotted territory, this plain map instead shows. It looks like some prehistoric map kind of because of the lower water mass, which further adds to confusion. Even stranger is that some of these not meant to be played factions still come with their own faction description below. I think this hints that they were about to be made playable but then at some point the developers decided against it for whatever reason.
Also not that crest at 7:27 is the Julii symbol. The SPQR symbol is the eagle.
A really fun Easter egg is in another Rome Total war settlement: Domus Dulcis Domus. It's located in the far north of the map, and there's no special units, but the town is Latin for "Home Sweet Home".
Those giant Elephants once appear in one of my battles in campaign. I had normal elephants, and when battle started they were really big. I was thinking it was a bug, as i was not using cheats or mods.
8:28 the reason for that area might be that Georgia was historically part of the eastern miaphysite churches, which while not outright heretical, were not orthodox Christians in the same way the byzantines are. So they might have been trying to represent that church through heretic numbers but I doubt it. It really seems like an oversight to me.
Is that the music from Rise and Fall at the end? Instantly brought me back 12 years
Oh yes : )
Had no idea about the Amazon's. That's cool AF.
5:08 those markers are the first 3 rebel settlements for Julii's campaign, segestica, segesta, caralis
I believe the screenshot at 6:10 is the image you get for the 'Chance for Power' message as a Roman faction.
The rome 1 loading screen you said was for rome 2 was the image for historical battles I believe
In medieval 2 voice packs there are narrator lines for the battles of Dorylaeum and Hattin.
The easter egg from crusades medieval 2, the hidden mountains really remind me of Atlantis
Nice vid
Credits to Lanky for suggesting the cut loadings screens.
If you go for a shut-in portuguese game, you can just keep clicking turns until it's time for Aztecs.
In total war warhammer there is a landmark building in ubersreik called the red moon inn where u get a thane a battle mage a witch hunter and an empire captain as garrison wich is a reference to vermintide
That counts as an easter egg
Elephants are my favorite units as well, another great video THANK you! ;) Hey are there any other codes for other elephant units by chance, please an thanks again!?
I am looking into making a video someday covering all codes, but I don't know any right now : )
rogan
madras
vindaloo
those are all the ones i know, and all curry names lol
It's indeed a Roman calender. Rome was founded around 750 BC. So 250BC would be anno 500
I actually found the Amazon camp in my play though but never got enough troops up there to take it..
*sad dictator noises*
Remember those loading screens were used by a lot of people on forums as banners
8:53 Empires Theme 👍😂
The imperial campaign pic I think is meant to be an end game thing like a congratulations your emperor of Rome kinda like the protector of Christendom in med 2
It's been decades and only now I find out about Themiskyra.
8:33 I like how they don't even hit the spears and they die.
Those loading screens you mentoined, those hi res 3d images are actually used in the final game.
For someone who covers Rome Total War its kinda weird you don't know where these are from.
The rebels of Themiskyra always ambush you as you approach them too. If you only have cumbersome Roman infantry and cavalry that are not fast moving you have no way to counter them!
i loved the code cheats, had an army of mumakils
How/where to you find the Yubsteb elephants? I always thought they were just an in-gamle joke. Espcially since they're an anagram for Best Buy
There is a code in console commands, but I don't know what it is, I just had them modded for me.
@@MelkorGG , thanks! I'll dig around the internet and see what comes up.
@@Wolfogre just type Yubtseb in the console..... Either it was that, or it lowered all unit prices by 10-20%
To spawn a Yubsteb unit in an army you must select one and then type "oliphaunt" in the console. It's that simple.
Oh and I don't know how you were able to enjoy them because they're REALLY awkward to use. Maybe they got stabilised a bit in the mod idk
Cathaginian settlement in rome 1 bar invasion from memory bottom right
Roma surrectum 2 had the Jutland settlement which I thought was pretty cool tbh
I stumbled upon a bug in Medieval 2 Total War yesterday. I was fighting a defensive battle in the mountain region in between France and Italy.
First battle turned out as expected: the Milanese had to climb up a steep rocky slope and my mercenary crossbow archers and a few cavalry unit cut them to pieces.
Then I was attacked immediately after winning this battle, in the same game turn.
Next the enemy was huddled together on a small clear area with my troops again up in the mountains.
With no way of reaching the enemy.
As I had not set a battle timer, I had to quit and lost almost 200 men.
Or the AI was just plainly cheating.
God bless you, sire, for using the Rise and Fall: CAW soundtrack
I think those Rome 1 images were from the period in development where CA hadn't decided to go with the "red" aesthetic just yet.
some interesting ones. wish they would have left some of those screenshots in the game. Nice vid
The RTW screen looks like a victory screen
The Americas were in the promotional material for Medieval 2 Total War actually I remember reading about it in a magazine and saying that Medieval 2 looked like shit due to some incredibly low res pictures oh boy how wrong was I
ANNO 502 = Year of the Consulship, pre-Julian Calendar... A.D. = ANNO Domino, ... For that last ‘Easter Egg’ 🤙
I found the amazons by accidet when i first played rtw.
Destroyed like 5 armies.
What console command did you use to transport your troops into that inaccessible area in the Crusades campaign?
show_cursorstat
To find the grid coordinate. Make sure to hover your mouse over the coordinate you want to find.
Then move_character (NAME) x,y
That moves the character, of your choice, to any coordinate.
Sometimes characters names are weird. Sometimes you have to just put surname, sometimes full name, sometimes full name in "".
If it is a Captain you have to add Captain into his name and put it in "". : )
@@MelkorGG Thank you! Hopefully it works with Rome 1 as well, especially the Alexander DLC with that Indian region.
(You should totally do a video over the Genghis Khan or Zombie mods) 🙂
Make a entire army of elephants and stop the timurids, yes it's me.
5:20 we have a map that shows late ice age Europe
Melkor, in Medieval 2, Danish and French commanders have a 3% higher chance to become drunkards
The Amazonian city is difficult to conquer, sent two full stack amies and had to retreat due to many revolts, one city near the Crimea region is the same
Just exterminate every city you take. They recover quick and make you good quick money and lets you tax them to ash from the start
Occupy feature in Rome is very useless
Could the last part be a nod to Georgia and Armenias tendency to rebel against outside conquerors throughout their history? Perhaps the developers lazily added the heretics in instead of an event, or maybe it was meant to be an easteregg
Two of the developers are "buried" in every graveyard In M2TW. Each tombstone is labeled RIP Martin Valigursky or RIP Martin Slater.
Anno is the A in AD (Like BC Before Christ) And the d is Domini which translates to In the Year of our lord. It is in Ecclesiastical Latin.
I wouldn't call the medieval 2 aztecs an easter egg, i mean the game kinda hints you to set sail for the america's when the ships for it unlock
I meant when the game first released, a player would have had no real reason to know.
It was on about my 10th let's play when I discovered them.
That's funny, I always like to go for a world conquest till I get bored and i never minded taking things slow so I got them pretty fast. My first copy of Rome Total war also game with a printout of the campaign map, So i knew about the hidden amazon settlement. I remember being surprised at the resistance I got on the way there. Good times.
Start a game as egypt in med 2 or rome 1, and wait like 5 turns for "all your base are belong to us"
Anno stands for "year" in latin
Logan is supposed to be Rogan, it gives elephants
Actually the second loading screen are the beta types from the development of the game. It got downgraded to allow more computers with low specs to run. There even a trailer:
ua-cam.com/video/8IKlVS9k2gc/v-deo.html
Can you get the massive elephants naturally at all?
Not naturally, only with cheats and mods.
i guess some dev played or maybe had worked on worms before the last 1.
Hi! Wonderful video was interesting to watch. Idea for the future: there are a lot of unused textures for units in the folders of Rome, how about restoring them and looking at them in the game? It is also possible to disassemble the trailers / promo cut content)
That unit idea is planned ; )
He made a video of this, few days ago.
Cant you create your own faction in Medieval total war? Is that not an Easter egg?
I thought he said "curds" jezus that "accent" is heavy.
This is the only video about easter eggs and youtube is so dumb it ignores the words easter eggs
It’s not Logan. It’s Rogan
It is meant to be Rogan not Logan
8:28 yes georgia was difficult to convert, one could say immpossible, the persians tried to force them to convert to zoroastrianism later the arabs than ottomans to islam, but nobody succeded, they remained orthodox.
what
Know any way to get the special mercenary units without cheating them in? Would be cool to buy the units in game in special areas for a large sum of money ofcourse
Are we talking about Rome or Med 2 units? Cus I can help with Rome 1
@@martinlopezhowe Honestly both of them but more so for Rome
@@jacksurvivalwolf9671 OK just follow these steps:
1) in your root RTW folder, go to "data" and then open the "export_descr_unit" file in it. You should find there listed all the units in RTW there, including Yubsteb elephants (under "cheat oliphants")
2) next you'll want to open descr_mercenaries, in data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign. This is the file where all the mercenary armies are listed. Here is a guide to the file: rtw.heavengames.com/rtw/mods/tutorials/mercenary/index.shtml
3) Add the Yubtseb elephants in one of the mercenary pools, with their exact internal name ("cheat oliphants"). You can adjust where you can find them, and for how much you can hire them, using the guide I linked.
Hit me up if you have any problems.
@@martinlopezhowe Thank you so much, I'll be sure to try it when I get home later!
In Med 2 You can hire mercenary elephants in Jedda. Available only after the Timurids invasion. I always keep one general in or near Jedda region so he can grab them as soon as possible and send them to my capitol :) You can hire 2 units every 20-30 turns or so (not sure exactly but it would take hundreds of years to collect a full stack of them). On my last playthrough as Venice I used elephants to conquer Americas :)
It is not Logan it is Rogan.
I suggest to adjust the microphone / audio so when you speak your whistle wont hurt my ears ty. Gj.
Next week. : )
My set up right now forces me to lean over my mic in a way that effects the audio. New Set up, PC, internet and everything next week.
Thumbs up until then. 👍
RE those elephants, "Yubtseb" is "Bestbuy" spelled backwards...
Rogan not logan
It rogan
*rogan not logan
Rip not first
Vindaloo is the most broken unit there is xD 2(2×30) of them kill 600 infantry hahah xD and yeaaah they shot down walls in 3_5 shots xD
Could someone name the last music on the video?
Its from the Game: Rise and Fall Civilizations at War.
Might be the menu theme.
Hey Melkor! I sent you an E-mail :)
You sure? Nothing has come through.
Hey I play on normal
Yeah, have played enough to get a female Pope.
That image of the strange map
Is ice age or end of ice age map.
Probably a mini campaign Neolithic eater egg
What???
@@lordhirluinthefair1307 c: yep.
Maybe a typo.
But yeah that's a sea level increase ending of the ice age map.
@@davidquezada50 yeah i noticed that greece has most of it's regions collided but why was this image in the game files? Makes no sense
@@lordhirluinthefair1307 perhaps the devs were looking for an image of ancient europe and being a bit uneducated got the map after searching it up
I've tried researching this but i've found no map similar online
