@Claire Midkiff Is a tribute to Queen's A Night At The Opera and is about how Death, which the band members imagined would take the form of a strong memory when it comes for you, coming for the protagonist in the form of a parade his father took him to. The whole album is about a young man's experience dying and going to hell. There's a video explaining it by Polyphonic if you want: ua-cam.com/video/C02IM72Ikk4/v-deo.html.
The first year we won't cry, a moment of silence for those who could not make it to today, but luckily they have successfully became a part of The Parade and now they can be at peace, and special thanks to you for staying strong
sooooo much to unpack...from the 'kiss of death' that lukas gets at the end (can't believed i'm today years old seeing THAT for the first time.), to the fact that the song was dang near prophetic, my mind is officially blown.... thx for the privilege enjoying your gift, Bob. RIP and carry om...
I just listened to it for the first time yesterday, I can't believe I've been missing out all these years. I'm glad I could make it one of the first songs of 2021 as well (listened to the whole album lol)
When I was a young boy My father took me into the city To see a marching band He said, "Son, when you grow up Would you be the savior of the broken The beaten and the damned?" He said, "Will you defeat them Your demons, and all the non-believers The plans that they have made?" "Because one day I'll leave you A phantom to lead you in the summer To join the black parade." (When I was a young boy) (My father took me into the city) (To see a marching band) (He said, "Son, when you grow up) (Would you be the savior of the broken) (The beaten and the damned?") Sometimes I get the feeling she's watching over me And other times I feel like I should go And through it all, the rise and fall, the bodies in the streets And when you're gone, we want you all to know We'll carry on We'll carry on And though you're dead and gone believe me Your memory will carry on We'll carry on And in my heart I can't contain it The anthem won't explain it A world that sends you reeling from decimated dreams Your misery and hate will kill us all So paint it black and take it back Let's shout it loud and clear Defiant to the end we hear the call To carry on We'll carry on And though you're dead and gone believe me Your memory will carry on We'll carry on And though you're broken and defeated Your weary widow marches On and on we carry through the fears Oh, oh, oh Disappointed faces of your peers Oh, oh, oh Take a look at me cause I could not care at all Do or die, you'll never make me Because the world will never take my heart Go and try, you'll never break me We want it all, we wanna play this part I won't explain or say I'm sorry I'm unashamed, I'm gonna show my scars Give a cheer for all the broken Listen here, because it's who we are I'm just a man, I'm not a hero Just a boy, who had to sing this song I'm just a man, I'm not a hero I don't care We'll carry on We'll carry on And though you're dead and gone believe me Your memory will carry on We'll carry on And though you're broken and defeated Your weary widow marches Do or die, you'll never make me Because the world will never take my heart Go and try, you'll never break me We want it all, we wanna play this part (We'll carry on!) Do or die, you'll never make me Because the world will never take my heart Go and try, you'll never break me We want it all, we wanna play this part (We'll carry on!)
I don't dress emo, the closest thing I could compare my style to is a anime school girl lol. But I love metal to death, I'm P U M P E D that MCR is back!
Glad to see older folks rocking out to MCR. Although I am around half of your daughter’s age, I became a fan of MCR a while ago via a game called Rock Band. Before discovering MCR (along with modern rock), I pretty much listened exclusively to older music (50s-90s). I still do, but MCR is definitely one of those bands that shows that not all 21st century music sucks.
“Basically, it’s never been accurate to describe us. Emo bands were being booked while we were touring with Christian metal bands because no one would book us on tours. I think emo is fucking garbage, it’s bullshit. I think there’s bands that unfortunately we get lumped in with that are considered emo and by default that starts to make us emo. All I can say is anyone actually listening to the records, put the records next to each other and listen to them and there’s actually no similarities.” But tell us how you really feel, Gerard? “I think emo’s a pile of shit.”
Aubrie Hanes our father who art in heaven Hallow be thigh name by kingdom done thigh be will be done as earth as it is in heaven ... with great respect to your gay phase that is the Jesus anthem learn it sweetie
This along with Teenagers were the first MCR songs I heard, and when I got deep into liking the band, I had really bad mental health issues, and I used to cut and try to end it all. What stopped me was the chorus of this song. It reminded me that no matter what, you will be remembered, and I think that pulled me out. Today, I am three years clean.
that's amazing to hear! i know i'm just a stranger on the internet, but i'm really proud of you for getting clean! congratulations! mcr is awesome and it saves lives. i feel like it's working on saving mine right now, it just gives me so much hope and makes me not feel alone in the chaos that the world and my mind are. we'll carry on!
That's cause you went through an emo phase, and these songs are designed for emo people. Glad you are doing better now. I, on the other hand, am stable but doing very poorly.
Didn’t know about this song until today. Lost my grandpa 14 years ago to heart failure and he was the only father figure I had in my life. Not a day goes by where I don’t think about him and a lot of days I end up in tears. Makes me tear up knowing my daughter will inevitably lose me one day.
Something I find sad, is that some people don't know the meaning of this piece. A man dieing, on the brink of his life ending, and finally, the curtain falls... And he is greeted by the dead, the broken, the beaten and the damned, and he is welcomed into the march of the dead.
Yea, honestly I never give 2 fs abt the lyrics of songs, for me the song's meaning is always carried through the melody. Music is language less and you don't need words to convey emotion. Putting that aside this song reads like a goddamn poem. Under every song you can find someone calling it a masterpiece mainly cuz of personal preference but this is like a legit one
It's also sung by the people who are in the black parade, saying that they know they led lives that may not have been glorious, but they don't care, because in the end they carry on in death anyway. It also tries to comfort the guy by saying that the world may be cruel, but that he should define his death how he wants to, not hy anyone else's standards.
i'm SO emotional over this comment i'm 22 now but when i was 12 i got my dad into this album!! he's 63 this year and it's still one of his favourites!! :)

We will carry on!

sooooo much to unpack...from the 'kiss of death' that lukas gets at the end (can't believed i'm today years old seeing THAT for the first time.), to the fact that the song was dang near prophetic, my mind is officially blown.... thx for the privilege enjoying your gift, Bob. RIP and carry om...

2021: here to make sure this is the first song I listen to in the new year.

When I was a young boy
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band
He said, "Son, when you grow up
Would you be the savior of the broken
The beaten and the damned?"
He said, "Will you defeat them
Your demons, and all the non-believers
The plans that they have made?"
"Because one day I'll leave you
A phantom to lead you in the summer
To join the black parade."
(When I was a young boy)
(My father took me into the city)
(To see a marching band)
(He said, "Son, when you grow up)
(Would you be the savior of the broken)
(The beaten and the damned?")
Sometimes I get the feeling she's watching over me
And other times I feel like I should go
And through it all, the rise and fall, the bodies in the streets
And when you're gone, we want you all to know
We'll carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And in my heart I can't contain it
The anthem won't explain it
A world that sends you reeling from decimated dreams
Your misery and hate will kill us all
So paint it black and take it back
Let's shout it loud and clear
Defiant to the end we hear the call
To carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches
On and on we carry through the fears
Oh, oh, oh
Disappointed faces of your peers
Oh, oh, oh
Take a look at me cause I could not care at all
Do or die, you'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Go and try, you'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part
I won't explain or say I'm sorry
I'm unashamed, I'm gonna show my scars
Give a cheer for all the broken
Listen here, because it's who we are
I'm just a man, I'm not a hero
Just a boy, who had to sing this song
I'm just a man, I'm not a hero
I don't care
We'll carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And though you're broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches
Do or die, you'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Go and try, you'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part
(We'll carry on!)
Do or die, you'll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
Go and try, you'll never break me
We want it all, we wanna play this part
(We'll carry on!)

I"m 62. They were my oldest daughter's favorite amd still are!

*the emo trinity national anthem*
“Basically, it’s never been accurate to describe us. Emo bands were being booked while we were touring with Christian metal bands because no one would book us on tours. I think emo is fucking garbage, it’s bullshit. I think there’s bands that unfortunately we get lumped in with that are considered emo and by default that starts to make us emo. All I can say is anyone actually listening to the records, put the records next to each other and listen to them and there’s actually no similarities.” But tell us how you really feel, Gerard? “I think emo’s a pile of shit.”

Shut up and stop trying to cram current failed parenting issues with past music. Obviously you suck at be a mom
that's amazing to hear! i know i'm just a stranger on the internet, but i'm really proud of you for getting clean! congratulations!

we'll carry on!
Thats cool
That true clean
Look up this song Time by the Impures
Cx
I jus know my death wont involve gerard way so that pretty much sucks .. didnt wanna live but now I dont wanna die either
Wow.. Thanks for putting it up..
