So i went back to a spot me and ,my friend Alex have been to previously and where we couldn't get a motorbike out of the water.
So this time i have come with some serious kit, its and engine crane / Log loader that i bought cheap from ebay and i made some legs for it with help from my friendly local blacksmith.
The magnet fishing crane with a magnet fishing winch is probably the first of its kind to be used on the hobby, it makes life sooooo much easier than injuring my back.
i had some awesome magnet fishing best finds while in burnley and i hope it continues and if you know where there is a motorbike dumped in the water let me know and i willl try my best to recover it.

Of that scooter (moped) you found its a Aprilia sr50 and it seems like it got a minarelli horizontal. Can I buy the 2 front side air vents the rims and taillights off it I know it got water damage but anything is better than nothing mine got stolen cops found it back but I am still rebuilding it being 16 years means that money is kinda tight but if I can buy this off of you I'd be happy I live in the Netherlands

Yeah, if we had a bottomless checkbook, a big shop to work in, we'd be dangerous. But unfortunately, someone already built a personal underwater drone. Several models actually. Pricey though.

@@drasticg If you were to drill 3/8" holes that you could "pin" so the crane base wouldn't slide on those legs....I was noticing the crane was getting closer to the edge and you had that stranger stand on the legs to counter balance. Pin them and you might not need a counter weight.

Wow! That engine hoist definitely beats a come-along mechanical winch any day! Awesome idea and video! Now all you need are two scrap pontoons (or some old oil barrels welded together [and possibly filled with blocks of foam] to make two pontoons) and to mount the hoist between the two pontoons and you could have a floating magnet fishing recovery/party barge! Woohoo! Thanks for posting!

@ 10:52 If you carry an empty 55-gallon plastic drum with you with an open end and a drain valve on the side at the closed end, you can set it on the legs of your hoist then just fill it with water from the canal using a bucket. Would make a good ballast that would be fairly light when empty. Could also carry a hand cart to carry it on with all the hoist parts inside.
    Just a thought...

If you get a dustbin as a counter ballence you can use it for the clean up too just fill the bin with water and it be as heavey as you or more.just make a small extension to fit in the tubes you already have with an extra cross at rear . Then you can just empty out the bin when finished.

Excellent stuff, brilliant use of the engine hoist, I chuffed to see the tubular support as I fabricate stuff like that for all sorts of applications, maybe get the fabricator to weld some flat lugs on with 12/15 mm holes, you could then peg it down in the earth part of the towpath??, he could also fab up a wheeled "dolly', you could then wheel the engine lift to and from the car?.
You lads should be getting some compensation from the council and Canals &Rivers Trust, the least the councils could do is give you a parking permit pass if ticketed for parking on yellows. Top work, deffo the top bike recovery top team.

@@drasticg Outrageous -if I was in the UK, I'd be calling a council of war between magnet anglers, narrowboaters and anglers. 1. The canals are part of the UKs industrial heritage and history. 2. The canals provide leisure pursuits to narrowboaters (some live full time on their boats), and anglers, both whom have a vested interest in having motorbikes and other polluting crap removed from the canal. This bloke is an ex TV journalist and now lives on a narrowboat ua-cam.com/video/yMKJR5n4gLw/v-deo.html
these lads are keen canal anglers ua-cam.com/video/vmY_HLa0YD0/v-deo.html ; getting together might be an idea, another lad that has done some videos of canals is Martin Zero, he might be a useful contact. Over here in France, if we didn't get any response from the local authorities, we'd dump all the crap from the canal in their offices LOL. Whatever, keep up the good work.
