- Today was an Extreme Motorbike Recovery operation in Manchester.

We found another amazing spot to magnet fish the rochdale canal that leads into mancheter city centre, we soon discovered a motorbike which was extremely heavy so i went home and collected my homemade engine crane.
We managed to recover the motorbike that was extremely heavy using the moddified engine crane but it did but up a struggle with the engine crane nearly falling on us.

So we head back to a spot where we find lot of dodgy stolen stuff in the canals of Manchester and today didn't disappoint, we pulled out loads of stuff including an electric scooter, normal scooter and even a motorbike.
The magnet fishing motorbike find was epic and very heavy, it was that heavy i had to get a modified engine crane i made to lift the motorbike out of the canal.
It make recovering stolen motorbikes from the canal using this modified engine crane but i really need to save up for a van soon so i can carry all my magnet fishing gear and even helps to carry the scrap metal away.

I pulled an Austin Twelve 1930 front axle assembly out of a river in Devon. It took three of us to get it out, once out of the water its weight seemed to double! The wheel hubs were in good condition inside due to the mass of original yellow grease in there. I actually used parts of the brake assembly whilst renovating my Father in laws 1931 Austin Heavy Tourer. They were built to last. Why is this video so satisfying to watch!?

Hey Gareth, if you could find some cheap, spare square tubing, even just 2 meters of the stuff, and slide into the square holes at the rear to lengthen the crane supports it would double the "force" [torque] without having to add extra weight or people if they stood on the back of those extension pipes. Adding an extra length of pipe to one of the side supports could also allow you to stand on one side to prevent it from tipping over when swinging it. Torque=force*distance. Increase the distance and use the same amount of force (body weight) and you will get more torque. Awesome video!! Thanks for posting!!!

Wow that was sketchy getting that bike out. I never thought about the side to side leverage not holding the weight up like that. Trial and error I guess to make a perfect product. Keep up the good work!

Gareth - your videos are what got me interested in magnet fishing in the first place. I really enjoy seeing the finds (interesting, boring, cool, whatever), but I really prefer the stationary camera better. Tend to get a bit motion sick with the chest cam. Thanks. (A viewer from the States).

That bike (H23 ELR) had its tax due in September 2007 so had been off the road for 12 years! I wonder if it's been in the canal since then or stolen from someone's garage? It's never had an MOT in that time but I don't know anything about bikes or if they need MOTs in the same way/frequency cars do. 1990 H reg, probably someone's pride and joy. Hilarious vid, one day if I find myself up north I'm joining in lol.
Drastic - I've got a lot of catching up to do magnet fishing wise. You should do a vid of your full kit, everything you bring with you and find useful. Like that knife, the bucket, any tips! Maybe you have already in which case I'll keep an eye out for a vid.
