With everyone complaining about the commentators- he was just meaning that she didn’t have to run so fast (ie: exhaust herself) for the semifinal. She could’ve ran slower, still qualified for finals, and been less tired in the end. Which would give her less to recover from later, before finals. He’s not just saying she should’ve went slower because she’s “too fast” or whatever.
@@thomasanderson5004 I ran cross country, the 1600m, steeple chase, and the 800 all the time. The 800 race plan is way different. Probably the toughest race in track and field. anyone who was confused with the commentators reaction to johnson montano’s race clearly has never run high level track. even at the high school level an 800 is run at least twice with heats and finals. at the olympic level, the athlete has to run the 800 a total of 3 times with heats, semis, and finals. all these runs happen within the span of a 3-4 days, allowing for barely any recovery. so it is completely irrational to run all out or incredibly quickly in the first heat because while it may qualify you for the semis, you will struggle in the semis and either not make the final or do poorly in the final.
For all you clowns saying “why are you getting on her for running fast” don’t understand that at this level you need to run a split and she did a 10 second split which is ridiculous
LeBeautiful James most pro 800 meter runners have a 1-2 second split differential between the two laps. For people who may not understand what a split differential is (maybe I'm just dumb but it took me a while) it's the time difference between the first and second lap
As a swimmer, I agree with the commentators. Any distance event, you have to manage your speed wisely. There's a reason you don't see Usain Bolt running the 800m or longer. And when you're doing multiple races because of heats, semi-finals and finals, it becomes more critical to manage your speed so that you don't overwork yourself, unless you know you won't make it otherwise or know you'll fully recover in time, which is only the case when the next race happens the next day.
The commentators actually do know what they're talking about. She has two qualifying races before the third race which is the final. "Doing you best" in the qualifying rounds isn't a good strategy because you want energy left to win the final. Unless you know you arent fast enough to make the final that is.

For those who doesnt know, a heat is a qualifying race to decide who will race in the final event. Thats why the first woman was unnecessarily fast, being 1st in a heat doesnt matter unless youre really behind your competition. And considering she will run again tomorrow, exerting that much effort for nothing is a blunder.
28:17 once the starting gun goes off, it takes only six seconds for her to end up in last place. Attar's presence at the 2012 games was purely a goodwill gesture, she wasnt as seasoned or had access to the same level of training as her competitors. But the Olympics are more important about who's the best, it's about goodwill.
I was like clapping like ... for Attar. But it's like the sportsman kind of clap for the people that get last. Glad the stadium had the same sportsmanship.
For some updates: Sarah Attar has improved significantly : she's run a 3:16.11 marathon- not international standard but still better than a majority of the human population!
I'm a runner and I know from experience,if you run that fast towards the begging, your planning for failure. You may think that you can do it by giving yourself a head start, but by the end you'll slow down and someone who's been pacing themselves will pass you. This time she was lucky, real lucky.

We can literally do anything we want as long as it's not haram (prostitution, selling drugs, mafia work, bartender, etc). Men aren't allowed to complain because it's their duty to provide all this for us. I feel bad so I am in university trying to become a forensic psychologist so I can help out my future husband financially as well, even though it's not my responsibility. Narrated Mu'awiyah al-Qushayri: I went to the Messenger of Allah and asked him: What do you say (command) about our wives? He replied: Give them food what you have for yourself, and clothe them by which you clothe yourself, and do not beat them, and do not revile them. Sahih Sunan Abi Dawud 2144 Prophet Muhammad saw also used to sew, milk goats, cook, and clean the house whenever he was free to and muslim husbands have to do this too. People complain about how people that are slow got to the olympics. Well theres a thing called university places - i dont know how it fully works but it gives some athletes like Attar a chance
It's the wrong strategy...... -_- you clearly have never ran. Somebody who isn't a sprinter should not sprint unless necessary because they will get tired too fast. 800m is too long to waste all your energy in the beginning by running so fast. You have to preserve some till the end.
Thank you. That is what I was assuming, ESPECIALLY when at the end she basically only beat the girl behind her by one foot, stride or whatever they call it. The first girl finished and I counted one and the girl was right there on two.
These commentators criticize every move these women make, despite the fact that they will have never run better than them a day in their lives. Honestly. Firstly, they criticize the American woman for "going too fast" in a heat, and then they criticize another group of women for "going too slow" in a heat. Pathetic.
The commentators were not being mean. Going that fast for the first lap is a very bad strategy in a trial, so thats why they were concerned. going slow is a great thing when it’s not the final race, and they didn’t say they were going too slow, just slow.
The commentators on these events were professional athletes too, and they participated in many world championships and Olympic events too. They are not just any random reporter. Know your stuff before you embarrass yourself for things you don’t know.

Why do people dislike the commentator? If someone is dribbling a ball across the entire field in a football match do you think the commentator is just going to say "Well he should be allowed to do what he wants"
I’m sorry... I understand the whole “breaking barriers” thing and I totally support that aspect of the games, but if you’re running a 2:45 you should not be in the Olympics.
Well it's not even the semi-finals so I don't see what the problem is. This is just like a qualifying race that every country has a right to participate in if they qualified in their respective country. The Olympics were meant to showcase every countries best athletes in a particular field as well not just the fastest people in the world, that's why they have qualifying rounds. If you just want to see the fastest people then wait till the finals or stick to watching world championships and not the Olympics. Imagine if you applied the same logic towards Olympic Basketball, every year it'd be the US versus someone else, wouldn't really feel like a competition of all the countries. I do agree that as a country you might want to with hold someone from running as to not embarrass your country but at least she was actually trying and she was a serious athlete unlike that Elizabeth Swaney girl who actually shamefully embarrassed her country at the winter olympics for half pipe snowboarding by scamming her way in.
She went to fast on the first lap. It's an 800. You go faster your second lap, not the first. Poor technique which could be bad. Yes she won, but they were only being logical.

This was the worst way to qualify, I believe they take the top three so that extra energy used was a waste. She had another race the next day, so compared to ther competitors they will be in better shape than she will be. @@jackworcester people commenting about commentators prob never ran track. You don't pace yourself like that in the preliminaries. You most likely would run out of steam in the semis. Point of Olympics is to compete in the finals

*"Why is she running so fast?"* She's not doing 100m for run fast and have better time. You can't run fast if you gotta to make almost 1km, you gotta to run at a nice speed for have enough energy for end the 800m.
Qualifications to be a commentator: Be satisfied with being utterly useless Enjoy critiquing people at ever turn Have little say and yet ramble on for the whole damn race Have a mind-numbingly dull voice That is all
her split time was way too fast coming through the first lap. However, she knew she would probably still qualify for the finals, this WAS NOT the final race, it was a qualifier. She was most likely testing herself if she could run the first lap more quickly, which is a risky idea and people don't usually do that. She could have also been trying to pressure the runners right behind her to do more than they could do. We don't really know, but the announcers were right in saying she is going too fast.
+iloveckaepernick7 this isn't about saying how she can or can't run, it's about how she should run. If you go too fast on the first lap it ruins your durability for the remaining entirety of the race.

It's not entirely their fault though, the country sends the athlete. And maybe their country didn't present them with the right opportunity and maybe they weren't good enough but they should still be allowed to at least try even if they aren't as good as the others. As someone who actually runs the 800 I was surprised as well because it’s a very abnormal strategy, normally you keep your “boom” for the end but she seems to put hers in the beginning
As a track athlete the next day was semi finals. They said why did she need to exhaust herself cuz the race was so fast. She could have ran slower and still qualify

Tintu Luka of India, @10:17 time to the finish line, I like her grit and determination. She hassled and was able to make it 3rd on this heat, check at 12:45. She inspires me, thanks Luka.
Thanks mate!
The support the crowd gave Attar was amazing!
Respect to you brother
For some updates:
Sarah Attar has improved significantly : she's run a 3:16.11 marathon- not international standard but still better than a majority of the human population!

We can literally do anything we want as long as it's not haram (prostitution, selling drugs, mafia work, bartender, etc). Men aren't allowed to complain because it's their duty to provide all this for us. When you insult someone for running fast
Rose Bascom You don't know anything about running, right😂
It's the wrong strategy......
Rose Bascom do you know anything?😂

These commentators criticize every move these women make, despite the fact that they will have never run better than them a day in their lives. Honestly. Firstly, they criticize the American woman for "going too fast" in a heat, and then they criticize another group of women for "going too slow" in a heat. Pathetic.
Steve Cram and Paula Radcliffe both hold/have held multiple world records from 800m to the marathon
+Jim K we could say the same about Americans you know
The commentators were not being mean. Going that fast for the first lap is a very bad strategy in a trial, so thats why they were concerned. going slow is a great thing when it’s not the final race, and they didn’t say they were going too slow, just slow.
I bet you have no experience running these these types of races
The commentators on these events were professional athletes too, and they participated in many world championships and Olympic events too. They are not just any random reporter. Know your stuff before you embarrass yourself for things you don’t know.

to everyone whining about the commentators, her speed threatens her recovery time and therefore her chances of winning later heats. this is actually important strategy and people interested in the sport know it, so it's appropriate commentary. not all criticism is "hating"

She has never lived in Saudi Arabia in her life. She was born and raised in California, and went to university in America. She can't even speak arabic. She's an American who just so happens to have a Saudi dad. The Saudi government tried to suppress her existence, and she only competed because the IOC was going to ban Saudi Arabia for not sending any women to the games.

Destiny Styles it's not even the semis mate
Destiny Styles if you sprint the first lap and then almost get beat at the end of second lap, yes it's a weird way to pace yourself
@Luca B Exactly doing your best, involves consistency of pace and efficient pacing. This whole comment section is mainly a bunch of losers who have no idea of track and want to rant their opinions on matters they have no knowledge of.
This was the worst way to qualify, I believe they take the top three so that extra energy used was a waste. She had another race the next day, so compared to ther competitors they will be in better shape than she will be. Distance events are about gauging yourself and making sure you leave everything you have left in your final lap, not your first.
Anyone coming last would still be faster than anyone from were in from

Why is she going so fast? Maybe she is giving it her all in every race. Maybe it's the Olympics that happen once every four years. Maybe, just maybe.
her split time was way too fast coming through the first lap.
+Michael Sills I'm pretty sure she can run however she wants to so...
