If you knew how they train in Ethiopia, you would know why the Ethiopians like Dibaba and her sisters are so amazing since combined they have won over 20 world Championships and gained over 10 Olympic medals a piece. So don't be mad at them training hard without drugs while the rest need drugs to beat them

In the second heath the 2 biggest favorites was struggling with each other for the 6th and last qulificaling place, instead of the first one. I find it very funny.

why dont they use the lanes for this? obviously not using them makes some runners not be able to perform their best due to the crowded groups...

+Willow Burger Normally I would agree with you but this race is just shy of 4 laps. The stagger at the start due to the distance of the race would nearly be half a lap if they would have to stay in lanes, because as you know, those in the outside lanes run father due to the turns. It would be very difficult to make sure no one got an unfair start. However I agree that running should be about the fastest and not having to negotiate other runners. Very seldom are the best times run in such conditions.
Remember in the 1500 you are doing about 4 laps. You're trying to use as least ground as possible if we were to use lanes then the outside would have a disadvantage
Long distance takes more time and more people do long distance there is only 9 lanes that means 9 runners at a time, this way they can take less time. And as a track and field runner it dose not affect your performance.
Willow Burger you run more distance on the outside, that's why they start at different places in a relay. This doesn't work for 1500m because it would be unfair for the runners on the outside lanes.
