Eddie Van Halen was the best friend I never met...R.I.P.
:'(
Amen brother
Great way to put it my friend
🙏
Well said! 💗🎶
It's hard to believe he's gone.
I miss him a ton already
I lost part of my youth today, say hello to Rory Gallagher when you get through the pearly gates Eddie, legend.
It's hard to believe because his fingerprints are all over modern music. Each time we hear a good solid guitar riff, we smile, thinking of him..
I feel it will never truly sink in. I mean.....Damn he was just such a huge gift to planet earth. 🤔😔
Amen Brother!
Eruption/Ain’t Talking Bout Love was actually the sequence he wanted on the 1st album and the way it dropped on the greatest hits
This is the order of how I burned the mp3 files when I made my mix of Van Halen’s best songs. It is a perfect transition.
His sound, his tone, it is so ferocious, yet so measured and exactly precise.
We are all so blessed to have lived at the same time as him.
the opening riff for aint talking bout love is one of the best ever!!! still get chills when i hear it! RIP Eddie!
Nice and crunchy.
Certeza 👍
Try Littlle Dreamer. hard to top that.
Eddie, when you reach Heaven, play this for Saint Peter. Rest in peace, you magnificent son of a gun.
There is a guitar party at heaven tonight

I guess with jimmy...
Saint peter? Who the fuck is that?
amazing comment
@@javierpolo4681 Hendrix, Prince, SRV, Robert Johnson, BB King, Duane Allman, Frank Zappa, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Albert King, George Harrison, Kurt Cobain and Les Paul all jamming together, what a jam!!
R.I.P. Eddie, the news was as bad as if it was a high school old friend left. You were there with me and my friends all those surfing days down in Puerto Rico from 1980 to 1995, you were with me during my University Years, you were with me while serving in the US Military for 24 years, now my 11 years old Daughter listens to you. I will love you as my family always Eddie.
God THANK YOU
That's a very nice sentiment.
Anyone who saw Van Halen as a teen or young adult will remember the days when we didn't have internet or cellphones Life was easier back then. It feels like losing my best friend in high school.
That’s me! Grew up listening and going and seeing them live! I have seen many great guitar players, and respectfully not one can play like Eddie!!!
you dont HAVE to go online.... its not actually a law.... you know that right?
Eddie Van Halen was one of the most magnificent guitar 🎸 players of all time and will go down in history as one of the best if. not the greatest. Thank U Eddie for gracing us with your presence 💯
+ 1. These COVID Times Freakin' Suc_.
1980 l was 14 my first concert..my ears rang for 3 days.the best.
RIP my man you were the greatest and there will never be anyone like you.
The one and only
God of Guitar, we miss you
@@danielfranke8721 He drank, smoked & drugged himself to death. What a shame.☹️
There already was someone like Eddie...you just ain't heard them yet
eddie van halen did not die, god just wanted guitar lessons.
At one point in EVH’s solo, the entire audience didn’t make a sound... now that’s respect for EVH’s mastery.
In the mid 80’d I saw VH twice and once in then once w/ SH.
Sadly, DLR is just a shell of his former genius. DLR defined what a Rock’s Frontman should be.
God speed EVH.
They didn't go quiet. You couldn't hear them over Eddie's excessive and extensive guitar wanking.
I was at this concert and we were screaming the entire time lol. Mic just doesn't pick it up from the mixing focus going to his guitar rather than the crowd.
I saw VH at Red Rocks this tour and NEVER have I seen Red Rick's sooooo quiet as Eddue played his solo. You could have heard a pin drop. The sold out crowd was hanging on EVERY SINGLE NOTE.
Rest In Peace, Eddie. 😢🙏
Thank God that Eddie was able to pull it together after 2004, a very dark period in his life. His beautiful playing from 2007 through 2015 was the perfect bookend to his amazing career. People need to realize that what they are watching here reflects his recovery after his initial cancer diagnosis and years of alcohol abuse. RIP Eddie. You may be gone, but your music and influence on guitar players will forever.
I went to a 2004 show and a 2007. '04 was horrible, Ed literally looked like he was on crack. 2007 was better, but still he was not nearly as polished and presumably sober as he is here. I so wish I could have made it to one of the FUCK or Balance or even VH3 shows. Ed at the top of his game there. He looked remarkably sharp in this particular clip here, close to those glory days. Wished I could have made a '13 show. :(
Well said 😊
@@greasebob I saw VH on the 5150 and the F.U.C.K tours (some will yell about it being "Van Hagar" and whatnot), but he was really on his game. He was really starting to get to a dark place starting with VH3 (that song "How Many Say I" was troubling for me). Honestly, even in his last 5-6 years, he badmouthed Sammy, badmouthed Dave, and badmouthed Mikey. Eddie was a troubled genius, but that often happens with people who are just so far beyond everyone else.
2007? Serach for videos of that tour. It was a drunken fiasco.
Far behind not beyond.@@davidfrench5407 How Many Say I was about reality. Reality is troubling for you...ok.
The silence of the crowd during cathedral is just incredible. We are have such reverence for this incredible innovator. Thank you, Ed. Rest in piece.
You can find a lot of imitators on youtube but this guy is a once in a lifetime talent. Nobody else compares
We were very lucky!
We are truly blessed to be able to experience/witness genius and pure excellence of a craft. Truly a shame Hendrix died when he did for the same reason. You know you've achieved greatness when music scholars will be studying your work a hundred/two hundred years from now. I would've loved to have heard Beethoven play piano for the same reason. He was able to do what nobody else in his time could do except for Franz Liszt who was the finest pianist of the 19th century.
Van Halen I'm the One Cover ua-cam.com/video/pA4ko8Qf0-s/v-deo.html
I think Nuno Bettencourt is a close second tho.
Yes something about eddies style you cant copy he was born to play guitar. I dont even think he really tried or practiced that much. He was just a total natural.
I guess you guys aren't ready for that yet.
But your kids are gonna love it.
Marty, I knew you were in here somewhere
@Savage Mister ... and Love it we DID! :)
Best quote yet!
Look at Wolfie just smiling from ear to ear when his Dad runs over to his mic and they sing together. You can tell he loved his Dad so much and was so proud of him. How much fun would that be to play with your Dad. Life comes full circle.
Eddie’s on in this one. When he’s in the zone and not fucked up, there’s none like him.
I thought the same thing. Unreal.
Once he got sober his playing got even better for sure
I love how the whole stadium goes quiet and lets eddie play through Cathedral.
I played-or shall I say, tried-to play this song and solo all day today. I miss him. What an innovator. Blessings to his son and family.
Michael Anthony is still the most underrated bass player in all of rock history for a band this big. Nothing wrong with what Wolfgang is playing.. but people don't realize how huge and steady Michael Anthony's attack and drive is. RIP Eddie
they lost a large chunk of their soul when he left
What VH song would you say highlights the very best of Michael Anthony’s bass?
@@angusmullins511 "Push comes to Shove" and "Panama"
Anthony is the special sauce in vh,that being said Wolf is a fkn badass and i love him in VH as well
And Michaels’ back up vocals
I enjoyed this up to David Lee Roth started singing, that was enough for me. Stay retired David. Rip Eddie, a true legend and innovator.
I know it’s 3 years. But show respect. Everybody gets old. David can still sing with the best of them. I bet you bottom dollar nobody would want to hear you even sing in the shower!😂
Father and son sharing the mic... so wholesome
I just love the way he holds and cradles his guitar and how he smiles as he plays. That was what got me as a teen. David Lee Who??? It was all about Eddie. His playing kind of put me in a trance. I was never one to enjoy a guitar solo until he came along. You couldn't look away. When musicians talk of the music "flowing through them" I only ever saw that with Eddie. It was so clear. It literally flowed between he and his beloved guitar. I can imagine as an awkward pre-teen him spending hours on hours with his friend Mr. Guitar. They just became the best of friends. Literally. He is/was the Kobe Bryant of guitarists. The book Koby wrote about "Thank you Basketball" is how I imagine Eddie was about his guitar. God I miss him. I feel for the troubles and tribulations he went through and know he is with God and the heavens are full of Brown Sound!
Absolutely!! 💯
Eddie was the star of everything!!!
Ggeh c
You couldn't have worded this more perfectly ❤❤
Peak David Lee Roth was an AMAZING front-man. Top 10 all time. Just saying.
The man the man hands down just walks out and blows everyone in attendance away and simply loves what he does! A true musician that loves to entertain! Miss you, Ed, from the land down under!😢
RIP to one of the best guitar players in the universe. 🙌🏾
RIP Good times in high school. Thanks man!!
@@julioburbo7163 you're welcome.

Rip to the greatest guitarist ever
Okay, so you say you’re making your own guitars and have your own brand name amplifier. You’re self taught and never bothered to read sheet music. Yes, I suppose you ARE a genius,
yngwie is still alive
@@rokyericksonroks Ive never read music.... but have been playing for 25 years. I know keys measures sharps flats diminished sustained scales etc etc. But dont read music
eddie van halen is not dead, he is teaching god how to play the guitar.
1978..friend of mine (we were 16 and big Zepp Floyd Purple Sabbath etc fans) says you gotta hear this new band Van Halen.. He had bought the 1st album.. We put on the record and Eruption came on... Holy shit blew our minds!. Still love VH to this day
Can't believe Eddie is no more. RIP guitar genius, you'll be missed.
There will never be another guitarist like Eddie Van Halen! Great song and one of the greatest bands of all-time!
Yep and the kicker is, He wrote "Aint talken bout love" at 14 and the lead section was done with 1 finger.
There is a million just like or better than Eddie but nowadays this isn't the type of music anyone wants anymore so we will never see how good they are.
Weird when he picked up guitar at 15. Where did you hear this fantasy. Voices in your head?@@30pitchcleaver
I have been a VH fan for 44 years. Never heard this fantasy story and I've heard a lot. Please supply a source if you can... lol@@30pitchcleaver
@Me-qp8vz yeah, a million guitar players better than Eddie Van Halen. Sure thing.
EVH changed the game! Forty years later, they are still trying to catch up. He's the Apple of guitarists,
Hope not... Apple sucks
Apple is amazing. Samsung sucks
5Ring Eddie was born in '55. That same year Steve jobs and bill gates were born.
Yes
Still reminds me of a young starry eyed young man who just looks at his instrument with wonder. This man was born to create.
F'king this one hits hard. Another chunk of youth & heart gone 😓😭 He was one of greats & the best 🎸🔥 RIP Eddie Van Halen 🖤🥀🎵🎸
Rip Eddie love you forever 🙏🏼🎸🖤🎶
Meh. Eddie was good for VH but he was no Frank Zappa.
Best guitar intro I have ever heard, from thousands.
Lost a piece of our youth today, may you rest in eternal piece Eddie. Xo❤️
Keep rocking above the clouds you magnificent man.always in our memories.rock in peace!
Eddie's guitar playing was so unique and yet so inspiring to other musicians. Tapping god!
Eddie never lost a beat to his end 🙏🙏🙏🎵🎵🎵🎸🎸🎸💯
I still cannot believe EVH is gone..... Grew up with this band and their awesome music.
Great seeing Eddie playing with his son together. RIP Eddie, you are a legend and will live on forever in your music!
Nah would rather see Mikey there. can't stand Fatgang oops Wolffat oops Wolfgang.
He could sure play the hell outta that guitar. He LOVED IT!!!!!
I was at the show in 1978 ,in Chicago..International Amphitheater. Van Halen was opening act for Black Sabbath.... WOW THOSE WERE GREAT TIMES OF MY YOUTH. THANKS EDDIE,💗👏💪👍😊🙏
Of all the vids of Dave's comeback, this was one of the few times he sounded good and wasn't too cringe.
Others have noticed his smile as he played. Pure love for his art.

In 4th grade I get off the bus to listen to Van Halen and it was a good memory, thx Van Halen 1955-2020 🎸 rip
I looks like Eddie is improvising half of the song and it still sounds perfect🤘 That man was a legend and will be missed ❤🤘
I believe EVH improvised a lot.
@@zombywoof1015listen closely and you will find that he nearly never did
Try listening harder. He played 8 guitar tracks in the studio but could only play 1 live. So he had to improvise to make the show go on. Never played guitar or any other instrument have you?@@looking_33
Jeeziz...the people at that show will never again in their lives experience anything remotely that intense. What a beautiful, masterful performance. RIP Eddie.
I just love his harmonic pinch whammy pull-up vibratos. They just blow traditional musicians to the moon. Just wild man ! R.I.P.
Al's drums sound absolutely killer! I love the kicks!

When Eddie Van Halen passes away there will never be another guitars like you I hope he lives forever cuz this music inspires other guitars to play but no one will be as good as Eddie Van Halen
A true art form! Such an amazing legacy left to Wolfie!
I have a heavy heart today. He was an icon of my generation. Loved this band since I heard their debut album age 7 in 1978. I will miss you!
I was born in 78. I grew up listening their best songs in the 80s.
That Smile when Eddie played was a Man Enjoying his craft!! Rarely see Guitarist Smile when playing!!😊
I think it is so awesome that Eddie and Wolfie love each other so much!!! You can see it on their smiles when they get together and sing....
Eddie killing it.
i remember when i was nine years old and had my first heartbreak i would lay in bed listening to ain‘t talkin bout love on repeat, again and again and again every night for like a week. it was my dream to see a performance like this live~
rest in peace, Eddie Van Halen you absolute legend
Heartbreak at 9 years old?
What are you, some kind of DOOFUS?
Goodbye Master, the sound of your guitar blew my mind, I will listen to you forever...
He just plays and plays , so effortlessly, Awesome he looks like he still really loves the instrument . Long live VH !!!
Good to see Eddie back on his game!
Eddie's in heaven doing this right now 😊
RIP Eddie. The rock and roll guitarist world will certainly never be the same without him.
I saw these guys back in the day when they were all in their prime. David Lee was sight to behold. He's the only front man on the planet that could balance out the sheer power that is Eddie Van Halen. Sure, Sammy is a talented and dynamic front man. But, he's no David Lee Roth. There will never be another David Lee Roth or Eddie Van Halen or Michael Anthony or Alex Van Halen. Its rather bittersweet, really. Bitter because most kids nowadays will never know what real music is like performed by real musicians who have been touched by the hand of God. Sweet because we do.
I’m 15 and I hate modern music, all I listen to is hair metal, classic rock, and thrash metal and old country. Van Halen, Megadeth, and Metallica and Ratt are my favorite bands😂😂. I’m not gonna lie, my dad influenced a lot of my taste in music.
RIP Eddie, you were best of the best guitarist of all time!!!😢🙏💔
Another legend gone.
But his music will live on for many many years.
Rest in peace Eddie.
I've never seen that guitar before ... sweet axe played by one of the greatest that's ever lived.
RIP Eddie. Legend❤️🙏😔
Eddie Van Halen , the name of all names ..
Shine On Eddie - your music will live on 🎶✨thank you R.I.P
Back in the 70's they stumbled into the best guitarist, drummer, bassist and lead performer ever.....what are the chances....AMAZING!!!
Eddie looks so much healthier here than in videos from years gone by. Great to see!!
RIP EVH!! YOU WILL BE MISSED!! YOU WERE THE GREATEST GUITARIST THERE EVER WAS IN MY LIFETIME. YOU ARE PLAYING IN HEAVEN NOW! 😭❤😭😭❤❤
So sad, one of the best guitarists of our time has passed away, rest in peace brother, and thank you so much for the beautiful music ♡♡♡ much love and hope for the family ♡♡

In a time when everyone thought guitar had no more to give, this man totally rethought the whole concept and it’s never been better. Now guitarist around the world strive to play some form of his style.
He was so happy and smiling playing great guitar music and making people smile everyday! He will be missed EDVH RIP!!!!!
Literally a magician with a guitar, even when old he was still innovating and inspiring.
And the song: no pianist, no second guitar, but so rich with pure energy.
This is one of the most powerful songs ever done on an electric guitar, love to play it.
Awfully sorry I never got to see you live.
RIP Eddie. You were a legend!!
Pure genius! No other words…
I was fortunate to see Van Halen several times over the years and every time Eddie played his solo, the entire crowd was in a trance, like we were teleported to another place! Truly amazing!
Eddie said he learned his stage coolness & insane talent from Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin! I'm a huge fan of both & I see it for sure.
I never seen a musician having so much fun he's really in his groove in his element he really loves that playing probably more than anybody I've ever seen
SRV, too !
I love that Cathedral part so much. Amazing.
Eddie was one of a kind. There will never be another. Rest In Peace Eddie Van Halen.
One thing is for sure - you know when it's Eddie playing.

@@calebproductions5970
Lol u just dont get it. Clearly u don't play guitar.
Music isn't about playing fast or how technical you can get integrating scales and arpeggios into your playing.
Its about sounding good, and being creative.
That being said I would rather listen to Eddie play than Yengwie, Gilbert or even Vai playing. Not that I don't like their music, I just prefer Eddie's style.
Besides Eddie has come up with some of the most memorable riffs in the history of electric guitar. You can't say that about 90% of virtuosos.

The best of the first off Van Halen. The only thing that makes watching this better is knowing that I got to see this man play live at least 6 times. I wish I had gone to more concerts but life kinda happened. ❤ love my VH for life 😊my grandchildren even know who VH is and they are in elementary school.
I feel the same. I saw them live 5 times. Twice with Hagar, once with Gary, and twice with Roth. I’m thankful I went to those shows every time they were in my area. Thankfully every day.
I actually like when he slows it down a bit. Love that melodic stuff!
