It's a decent looking car. Not really a fan of that body style, but that's just me. I don't really care much for anything after 1970. But that is my personal taste. Definitely worth saving though
I'm always amazed that even your basic muscle cars had bench seats, column shift, some even had drum brakes! Here in Australia what were our muscle cars even the basic ones had power boosted disc brakes, floor shift and bucket seats.
@@alwynemcintyre2184yup let's talk the era of muscle cars and options. All big threeroduced basic cars with no optionß ps pb discs auto were some basic add ONS but for cost. Conscious teen buyer could jack up price grand which was alot in those. Dollars...plus wny buy a basic Camaro or satellite wheñ you could spend a few bucks more get an option group on an upgraded car like a road runner. Or Camaro RS. Expensive options like bucket seats air consoles were budget busters and very rarely checked off so bench seats. Floor shifts upgrade motors no air drum brakes no ps. Etc were the formula for speed..big deal in 68-72. Was to order 6cyl. Nova then add a 350small block. Came with a 4speed and a posi rear...new owner kid does engine work adds intake 4bbl. Saves bucks on insurance rates because you got a v8nova man shift for cheep and no SUPER SPORT LISTING ON VIN AND SAVE BUCKS ON INSURANCE COSTS....SIMPLE ECONOMICS
THIS was my HS daily driver, same ugly green paint even. The 383 was kinda fast but it handled like a battleship but oh the memories made in her. One day she threw a rod and her saga came to an end, I even held a ceremony. Looking forward to seeing this project.
I’m 71 now and your RR brings back fun memories. Especially that horn. When I was in high school, a friend’s brother owned a new 68 , 383 , 4 speed RR. We would sneak his brothers keys while he slept and run around all night in that car. Back then we would love to get on the expressway and bury the speedometer! Crazy! It would burn rubber in all 4 gears! The engine had several upgrades. Good times. Wish I was 17 again! 😂
Ooh, I had a '72 Satellite Sebring (same body style) in that same color, had a 318 with column auto. Changed my first timing chain and gears on it. :-)
47:32 your father is simply enjoying the sight of the coolest barnfind/supercar his son just managed to buy. this is a beautiful car! Jeez luise... so happy for ya
Dylan your excitement is palpable. in 1981 I bought a 68 GTX special order 4sp from a pal who drove it up from Santa Maria Island in Florida. Fully optioned with maroon buckets and a center console, no rust 88k miles, needed paint and valve seals. Drag racing on my home street a 71 charger he pulled in front of me as I passed him and bent the hood fender grill and k frame. Dad made me sell it after I tossed it up on blocks and started peeling off broken parts. I was 17. Even smashed it would be big dollars today. I'm glad for you way to go....
That's a cool car. I had a 72 Satellite Sebring plus that had a 318 Rochester carburetor in it. Was my first car that my dad and I worked on; We repaired some body work and painted it. Was cool. Seeing this brings up good memories.
Cant wait to follow this build. When i was younger i reallly didnt dig this body style but now its one of my faves. Take care and i'll see y'all in the next one.
Good morning from Cape Cod 🦈 that roadrunner is surprisingly in good shape. Congratulations Dylan, I can see you're very excited over this one. I'm looking forward to the continuing series 👍✌️🇺🇲
I own a 1971 Road Runner which I purchased in 1975. It's very similar to yours but with some exceptions. It's orange with a black vinyl roof and black interior with a full bench seat. My 383 came with a Mallory dual point distributor and a 750 Holley. I have a 4 speed with a pistol grip shifter. I also have the same 323 differential. The biggest difference is the rear bumper. Mine has a '72. I don't know how that's possible, but I like it. I think it really makes the car look unique. Of course, over the years, I done a few upgrades. I love my "Rowdy Road Runner".
I have a 1971 Satellite Sebring Plus but my first car was a 71 roadrunner. My absolute favorite body style. I hope you have a shirt made for this one!!! Definitely looking forward to seeing more of this car.
Great Dylan, I love that you share the rescue of these classics, I really like watching you work on them and how fun you make your videos, a big greeting from Venezuela, I own a 1968 Ford Torino Fastback I would love to see you rescue one and work on it, my respects for your love and dedication to these cars
Just the beginning of the video here Mr. McCool, but I'm thinking the initial moral of this story as of loading the vehicle onto your trailer is no matter what is expected, plan for the most difficult retrieval every time. Straps, chains, wheel dollys, good jacks etc., maybe even a steering wheel puller if so inclined, or a 'master' spring key maybe to get that steering unlocked. Lesson learned I hope! edit: Well, one thing to consider: if you didn't have to struggle sometimes how would you know what fun really was? : )
One of my favorite muscle cars from the 70's. The one with the functional hood scoop and tail spoiler, 440 under the hood comes to memory. Yes it is a big and potentially very fast large full sized two door muscle car. Very cool and very nice if restored well.
Can’t wait to see it restored an as you say it’s a time capsule worthy Of Restoration.. put the White stripes back on an the Roadrunner logos .. restore that drivers seat an get it running properly
What a coincidance! My 71 roadrunner(bought in 81,383 4 speed bench)has also been of the road since 89. This gives me motovation to finish my driver rebuild😎😎😎
71 roadrunner if I’m not mistaken for a couple seasons I think it was till season 2 or 3 but didn’t daisy from the dukes of hazzard ik it was a roadrunner but I can’t remember if it was a 1970 or 1971 roadrunner they used for daisy’s car
This is one of the top 3 cars I’ve seen here. Beautiful! Can’t wait wait to see the restoration you’re doing on it, and also to see those 15” wheels installed. It’d be nice to have those decals back too. Those are really exotic and would light up even more this ride. Cheers from 🇧🇷
This reminds me of my father's '68 Roadrunner, even though it's a different body style. It was Orange and had a black hood with an air grabber that popped up when you smashed the throttle. He'd put a hundred dollar bill on the dashboard and said that I can have it if I can grab it. Problem was, he'd smash the throttle every time I reached for it and it threw my tiny ten year old self into the seat because it had so much torque. He still has the car, original motor, trans, and paint. I think that's called numbers matching. I don't remember what motor it has because it stays in the garage which is always locked. I know it has a posi-rear and short gears because it's at around 4000 rpm at 110 mph. It could have a hemi in it for all i know, but I think it's a 440.
couldnt stop smiling when it spun over and had compression, one of my all time dream cars but in the UK as usual they are crazy money lol cant wait to see more!
Awesome!!! I started with a 1971 B5 Blue 383 Satellite Sebring Plus with a Roadrunner Hood 23 years ago. Too much rust to save. Switched to a GF7 Green 1972 Satellite Sebring Plus 2 years later. Really long story, but 408 Magnum Stroker, lots of fun. Being in WI just got it out of the garage. Split the riding season between it and Harleys!! Can't wait to see more of this one.
What a great roadrunner Dylan! Seems like a very solid car, Seems to run surprisingly well and sound good for having sat so many moons! My old buddy has several mopars including a cpl hang 10's and darts. Best of all a 71 orange charger. It's a 440 six pack, pistol grip 4 speed and has a sure grip dana 60 with 3.54's. He even added a fully functional air grabber, best part and looks so cool!!! Would be cool to see u work on a hang 10 with their surfing decals and orange shag carpet. I love the 71 demons, my brother had one, had a 340 4 speed and an 8 3/4 sure grip with 3.55's. It was yellow with black interior, I drove it a cpl times and.msn was it fun to drive and was quite fast for a 340. Look forward to seeing you guys fix this old hot rod up!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Cool find for ya Dylan and good video. FYI- on the front bumper, there's a hard rubber strip in the middle. That is known as a bumper/crash guard some might call it. Its "supposidly" for a frontal crash ir even grocery carts at the store to protect the bumper🤔.That is a rarity on these cars and even so, if the rear had one too. KEEP THAT. Also, those are dual "turn down" exhaust too. The other kind was the "machine gun tips". Yes, I have a '71 and was born in October of '70 1:02:20
The decorator tips were optional but were block in some years in California because of "drive by noise" regulations. I wonder if Dylan's car has a code N95 for California on the Fender tag.
Lil story of when I was about 16...was with my dad picking my brother up from work in an old F-150...Wouldn't start and we thought the solenoid went out so I got out with a screwdriver to jump the solenoid...Soon as I touched the contacts the it sparks really big and the battery literally blew in half...Starter was shorted! Remember that when you're standing over the battery like that... Luckily I closed my eyes when it sparked real bad and the acid blew all over my face ...my brother jumped out and poured a mountain dew on my face to wash the acid off and by the time I got 20 minutes home my shirt fell apart in the front from the chest down...
Have you ever considered building some flat surfaces you could attach to your ramps and then use skates front and back to load up cars in this no key/or locked up wheel situations? Just a thought I had during your struggles to load this one up...
In 1973 I ordered a OLDS 442 emerald green w white strips, reminds me of that car as I checked with Plymouth dealer on roadrunner but the 442 was much cheaper [ Actually the only performance car that was cheaper than the 442 was a stripped down Pontiac GTO] GREAT VIDEO as always
For someone whos dad bought the first one in Canada (376 car made), the original wheel/tire was a f70-14 Polyglass tire. You had to check off the option to go to a 15 inch wheel, and rally's were an option. Standard was a 3 speed manual and the Torqueflight was an option. Standard carb was I believe a 550 CFM Holly. As for the strobe stripe, when my old man picked the car up in August of 70, that stripe was not yet available, in fact the only thing was the "roadrunner die cast emblem that they drilled holes for in the quarter panel right where the "roadrunner" in the decal lines up with. Man, that gear reduction Chrysler starter had a sound all its own lol..383 in my opinion was THE best engine Chrysler made back then. Powerful, and indestructible.
My Dada had a 70 Dart with the same color combo. I love the color. I sincerely hope you do the body work to make it right. It deserves a repair for sure.
What a car!! You look smitten with it Dylan! Definitely is a rare time capsule car and needs preserving or restoring as an original car. Can’t wait to see more on this👍
Did I see a blue 1971 Plymouth Scamp in the background when you told the back story of the Roadfunner? I had one of those (same color) back in the mid 70's. 318 V-8 with 3 speed on the floor and white interior. Loved it!
This car deserves a restore Dylan glad you,Ve bought it KEEPER my opinion the best roadrunners 71 up Happy Mother's day to yours and all you beautiful mothers out there
Dylan...just a thought. Are there any Detailers in TN near you with a UA-cam Channel? If so, appear with them on their video and let them detail your new purchases "before" you begin working on them. Win-win! I think you are awesome!!!
Yeah, his car wash was painful to watch. Going from the wheel well area to the side and hearing the crunching. If he wants to maintain that original paint, he should do anything possible to not scratch it up anymore.
I'm curious if those cylinders would have appreciated a little oil in each one after sitting 30 or so years.. just curious, some revivals seem to get oil in the cylinders, some don't. I've always been of the opinion better safe than sorry, plus it'll give a bit higher compression for rings that may well be a little stuck after all those years. There's usually 1 or 2 cylinders on the exhaust stroke and with the exhaust valves open on those cylinders moisture - even in a garage - will get in.. it's just a nice thought, a little oil, or even 2-cycle fuel mix in your initial will it run hot sauce would help a little.
What grinds my gears are the couple of revive and drive guys that use brake clean to fire a motor that hasn't turned over in 10 plus years. Pole barn and digs namely. Idiots
My favorite is a 1970 runner. My friend bought one in 78 , I was to young to drive but we partied and raced through our city. Full of kids up to no good. I know you've got a 70 satellite kicking around waiting patiently. A superbird clone is my dream for that one.
Dylan back in the mid eighties my daily driver was a 71 Plymouth Satellite in a plain white wrapper with the 318 & auto trans. You know that car was the best daily driver of any car I have ever owned! Totally dependable and I drove it all over the country! It looked a lot like your Road Runner. I guess in 71 the Road Runner was based off of the Satellite body!
I have a 72 satellite I'm working on. I'm trying to finish my 81 camaro first. But I got my mechanic buddy rebuilding a 440 for me right now for the satellite. Hope you get that car and your others restored!
Excellent video Dylan :) & Bryer :) yes nice 1970 RoadRunner car also cool green color on body plus interior! Plus got original rims also hubcaps, nice shape plus daul exhaust too and sounds like need starter replacement or rebuilt, and say fix up too fully! Also remember those car my uncle Brian had one Purple color body with Black decals also interior too ! He 440 V8 motor 4 barrel, Automatic transmission with Shift Kit, 323 but changed to different one ! Also it was fast car in day when had it and so fun be in !
Dylan love your new ride. I get trying top preserve the patina . You could fix the rusted areas like Puddin and Slick 50 did on the GMC they shortened the frame on . Used Spray paint they had mixed and buffed out the paint on the rest it turned out awesome . That car will be awesome when you are done .
Hey Dylan mccool I was hoping u would buy the roadrunner it looks very good for a car that sat for over 35 years and having it run it sounds great can't what till part 2 of the roadrunner build
Wheel lip mouldings and rear bumper guard are seldom seen on basic Roadrunners, it even has GTX tail light chrome trim with the bumper stripes, pretty cool!! Pull the back seat out and look for the broadcast sheet, it'll have EVERY option the car was born with, IE rear gear, radio, trim grade
This car deserves a decent restoration. That original paint on the inside of the trunk lid could be your inspiration. Please let us all help Dylan find a used door mirror, then he can't go back.😊
Hey Dylan....I owned a 70 & a 71 Roadrunner back in the day....$700 bucks for the 70....$$330 for the 71....back in the mid 70s...who knew what these cars would explode in value....I enjoyed part 1....keep it up....I'd love to know what you paid for the 71....I can't find one anywhere..now that I'm retired I work on them for fun...I did find a cool 84 choo choo elcamino ss STL-013....very rare I've been playing with...3 yrs now....1 of only 18 left from the Driveaway Event in St Louis in March 84....but I like those old mopars....enjoyed your post...thanks
I had a 1971 Plymouth Satellite in that same color combo, California car clean/no rust with bucket seats, a console, 727 auto, 383, A/C in 1980. I wish I still had that car. I know, typical regret...
Dylan, the 15 inch Rally wheels in the car are not the original wheels. 70, 71, and 72 cars came with 15x7 wheels optional and darned few came with them. The odds of a 383 car having them is slim. The 15x 6 1/2 was put on cars from 75 and newer, such as the Cordoba based "Charger Daytona". The giveaway from a distance is that only three holes are drilled out to mount the hub caps. A very bad thing. I recommend you drill two more to mount the hubcaps since even five are marginal. I would say the 14 inch Rally wheels were the ones the car was built with. You can find a build sheet hopefully. Check to confirm that is a 14 x6 and not a 14 x 5 1/2. Oh, I think you certainly should use the 15 x 6 1/2 set with whatever caps you have a full set of and prefer and I recommend a 225 70 15 or 235 70 15 tire. Not a 60 series tire since any one that fits properly on a 6 1/2 inch wheel is too short to look correct. I prefer the round cone type caps to the acorn type. And prefer the light argent to dark argent, but I have never owned a full set of the dark argent ones since they are pretty rare. PS, the ones on your 14 inch wheel are light argent in color which came only on a 70 while a 71 has a dark color. But that isn't cast in stone.
I had a 70 Plymouth Satellite the same body style but i had a 318 so i had a straight hood . It was midnight blue with white stripe from front to rear with blue cloth interior . I loved that car it looked so good and it ran very well , and it suited my personality . I love this body style after the 72 not so much i didn't like the way they did the front end on those .
What do you think of this Roadrunner?
Legend
Best front bumper on any car. My opinion
Nice car
Hi Dylan your awesome
It's a decent looking car. Not really a fan of that body style, but that's just me. I don't really care much for anything after 1970. But that is my personal taste. Definitely worth saving though
You should do a complete restoration on it , there aren’t many of those cars left out there in that good of shape.
Love the '71 Roadrunner body style. That front end is iconic. One of the best looking cars of the '70's. That car is worth restoring.
Up until 75. Satellite sebrings shared parts

This is a perfect candidate for a FULL RESTORATION!!!! This deserves more than a patina and doing donuts in a corn field.
Any vehicle this clean and that old should be nit-pick perfected
It would be better if it was preserved as much as possible and kept in the condition it's now in.

He could just disconnect the driveshaft by unscrewing two small bolts. But he said he didn't have his tool box.
Beautiful old survivor, can't wait to see it driving again.
Looks just like my cousins Road Runner that burned to the ground 35 yeats ago due to jack leg electrical work! Brings back some great memories!
I do love the 71. It's my favorite year for the RR. I had an MPC model of this exact car when I was a kid, and it has stuck with me.
Power Tour option perhaps!! Love the car, I would love to see someone find a GTX, 67-70.
I'm not a big Mopar fan but I like watching you bring these hot rods back to life, keep up the good work and continue to teach Briar......
i'll take your place. because mopars are the best. chevrolet # 2 Ford 3rd. place.
My favorite Mopar front end!
Damn, that car looks absolutely stunning. Indeed it worths restoring.
Dylan, that is my dream car. That should absolutely become your daily driver...or my daily driver.
My Dada had a 70 Dart with the same color combo. I love the color. I sincerely hope you do the body work to make it right. It deserves a repair for sure.
Love this car , thanks for fixing it up, back on the road where it belongs , so my kids can someday love them too.
What a car!! You look smitten with it Dylan!
Definitely is a rare time capsule car and needs preserving or restoring as an original car. Can’t wait to see more on this👍
Usually, I'm not a fan of these green on green cars. But this one looks good.
Did I see a blue 1971 Plymouth Scamp in the background when you told the back story of the Roadfunner? I had one of those (same color) back in the mid 70's. 318 V-8 with 3 speed on the floor and white interior. Loved it!
The 71 is my favorite of the Road Runners, what a great find
This car deserves a restore Dylan glad you,Ve bought it KEEPER my opinion the best roadrunners 71 up Happy Mother's day to yours and all you beautiful mothers out there
Dylan. Another awesome video. I looked it up, and yes, you could get a 3-speed manual in the Road Runner.
Idiots
Brings back memories. A buddy of mine had one of these. Lot of good times in that car. Hoooweee!
I can't wait to see more on this car! I love Roadrunners!!
My favorite is a 1970 runner. My friend bought one in 78 , I was to young to drive but we partied and raced through our city. Full of kids up to no good. I know you've got a 70 satellite kicking around waiting patiently. A superbird clone is my dream for that one.
Green on green is pretty cool. I'm also a fan of 383's
Can’t wait till Part 2!
Great job in getting it to run. This one is worth restoring. Can't wait for the next video!
I have a 72 satellite I'm working on. I'm trying to finish my 81 camaro first. But I got my mechanic buddy rebuilding a 440 for me right now for the satellite. Hope you get that car and your others restored!
Congratulations! Great find and looking forward to watching you get it back on the road.
LOL!! Watching Dylan struggle if was me I would have crawled under the car and undone the driveshaft to move it!!
Decor package give you wheel lip moldings and the door panels and steering wheel this car has.
Next to the 68 charger my favourite body style, pure 70’s glory !
Look at that beautiful chrome bumper. Not many stamped parts on cars today . Everything is molded.
A lot of people didn't like that bodystyle, I thought it was gorgeous! That might be one to restore and keep.
That was a great show. Looking forward to Part 2. Thank you Dylan, You also, Briar, from Canada
My favorite Mopar in my favorite Mopar color!! I'm a GM/Ford guy but I do love certain Mopars.
That looks like a goin to town ride worth fixing up
That Chrysler sound when the engine turns over . Love that sound .
