Thanks for the video to show the rural Xi’an. I am a Xi’an native living in States. We used to joke about Xi’an 10 years ago- center Xi’an looks like Europe; outside rural Xi’an looks like Africa (dirt roads with trash etc)😅😅… went back this year noticed rural area is more developed- new clean roads, pile of trash mostly gone, instead seeing cars parked outside of many rural houses. Shaanxi is still relatively poor compared to coastal provinces but happy to see progress is being made.👍
also from the area, same feeling, never thought rural shaanxi has improved so much and never realized that rural shaanxi in fall can be such photogenic. the views captured in the vlog are heart warming.
Still loving your videos and the freedom you expressed in meeting people. I wish that I didn't have the preconcieved ideas of the west when I was there and have the freedom to explore as you do. I hope to get back and let go of the fears that was instilled in me from the western media and upbringing and walk free in my mind when I am there. when the sun came out, everything looked so different and energizing. most of the soy sauce in those Americanized chinese restaurants are from some japanese brands, which tastes differently comparing to the chinese soy sauces. "say cheese" lol and there is a christ church in the middle of the buzzing market? can't find anything more relatable than that😄
Xi'an is my hometown. every year when went back to Xi'an in my vacation, I always drove to the villages around southern mountain. Xian is a amazing place. I miss Xi'an from far Malaysia.
I am Asian and have lived in California La Harba near the Harbour Blvd area for a few years before returning back to my home country. I can't remember how many times I was told by the locals "Asian, go back to Asia" you don't belong to this country. This is white man land.
The younger generation have mostly left for the city. It's good to see the older generation still carry on with their lives in a safe and a lively environment.

The world has been brainwashed for so long that America is the land of freedom and opportunity. Most villagers in China has never traveled outside of China. Their image of the US is that it is a very wealthy country and its citizens participate in that wealth. That explains their reaction when they find out you are from the U.S. Chinese people have always idolized Americans. Unfortunately, the image of the US has changed with its sanctions and trade wars, as well as its warmongering activiites in the South China Sea and Middle East. That explains their comments that Americans are very nice people but their poiticians are not. It was so funny two minutes into your conversation and he asked you if you speak Chinese!!! He is so focused on your face that he forgot about your excellent Chinese speaking ability. You are so fortunate to be able to live a dream that most people can only fantasize about. The experience is priceless!
I like your videos depicting the local market, neighbourhood and life in Rural China! Thank you for sharing. In some countries, if they know you are American, they may do harm to you, thankfully, in China you will be met with curiosity and friendliness, of course there will be a few showing indifference!

Love your video!👍My mother and her relatives all live in Xi'an. They are regular people and only know their daily lives and don't know much about USA. However, due to the powerful social media influence, which is shaping people's ideas and mind sets nowadays, they believe or try to believe that either USA or other developed countries has a free medicare system to take care of its people and help the US citizens or other developed countries citizens whenever they have health issues. 😂 I told them many times that a free medicare system is impossible in any country because doctors and medicines cost money. However, they never believe what I said. I gave up eventually in battling the power of social media.😅
There are some countries that have it but it requires super high taxes so it’s definitely a trade off 🤣 US health care costs are genuinely out of control tho
Fruit flower reminds me of the Hearts-a-Burstin’ plants we have around Tennessee; A bumpy pink seed pod splits open and dangles orange bean fruits, so it looks like a weird Dr Suess flower with thick pink petals and giant stamens

Hi Katherine. Love you videos. I’m guessing that the Chinese are confusing free healthcare for Americans for what we have in Canada. We have free healthcare thru our taxes , but it’s not without its problems.

love Xi'an. there's so much to see everywhere throughout the city and out in the rural areas. i didn't realize that's common throughout Xi'an, the center lane thing in the markets. didn't give it a second thought while i was there but yeah, so far it's the only city in China where i've seen that happen in several of the market streets i've been to.
I spent two yrs in Xi'An, I missed the independent book stores and coffee shops there. if you ask me the only complaint, it is the smog air back then. Wish I can go back again

Americans see doctors for free, children go to school for free, the average American earns $5,000 a month, while the latest iPhone costs only $1,000. You can buy it after working hard for three days. Food in supermarkets is very cheap. One dollar buys fried chicken, three dollars buys a pound of beef, tricking unsuspecting people into selling their property, paying a large agency fee and then immigrating to the United States. There are a lot of untruthful people who are deceived into thinking that they can live a happy life in America

From what I know, the ones packaged in small plastic packages are not real soy sauces. Real soy sauce is brewed and then aged in vats.
