This video review of Taurine is an update to the video I recorded several years ago on Taurine.
In this video you'll discover the nootropic benefits of Taurine. Including why we use Taurine as a nootropic, recommended dosage, side effects, clinical research, and which type to buy of Taurine.
Taurine is one the most abundant amino acids in your brain, spinal cord, eyes, and nearly every tissue in your body.
Taurine functions as a neurotransmitter and neuromodulator in your brain. Activating GABA and glycine receptors which affects memory and mood and prevents seizures.
Taurine recommended dose is 5 mg two or three times per day.
Taurine is a potent antioxidant, protects from mitochondrial dysfunction, modulates energy metabolism within cells, modulates genes to induce longevity, inhibits cellular stress associated with Alzheimer’s, acts as ‘quality control’ in brain cell health, and protects against stroke.
Taurine increases stem cells and progenitor cells (neural precursor cells) in your brain including the aging hippocampus and increases the survival of newborn neurons. A WHO study covering 61 populations in 25 countries found that populations with the highest levels of taurine in their system lived the longest.
Those who use Taurine report more energy, better sleep, sharper eyesight, less pain, less depression, it relieves chronic fatigue, reduces insulin resistance, and lowers blood pressure.
Recommended Taurine daily dosage is 500 mg - 2 gm per day.

I started supplementing with taurine when I was 50. I heard of the benefits and I am now 63. My long distance eyesight is very good. When I golf with my peer group it is usually me who can see where their balls have landed. In my late 40s I started to get silent migraines. The symptoms were blurred vision followed by a low grade headache that lasted several hours. When I started to take taurine they disappeared. For a while I ran out of taurine and within a few days the migraines returned. I have also noticed I’m much calmer than I used to be. People comment that I’m not easily rattled or get upset, I do believe that taurine has helped. I do know if I don’t take it for a couple of days I get irritated much more easily. My daily dose is approximately 3 g. I have never experienced any side effects. For the past few years I have also added glycine to my stack. My wife and I both take glycine and taurine daily. We walk 5 miles a day, do Pilates, go to the gym three times a week. We are living our best lives we can.
Try reducing you dose to no more than 2 grams per day. And see if that helps. One of the problems with these supplements is overdosing them which usually causes more problems than it helps.
My autistic son was always depressed and I gave him comprehensive amino acids and he is now a very happy 5 years old.
Thank you for your work
It got rid of my Palpitations. very happy!!
I’ve been using powder form 1000mg once a day for eye floaters and glare. Improvement in my eyes and to my surprise depression has been positive. I may increase dosage. Thank you for sharing your videos.
Thank you Sandra
Great video !!!
The volume is wonderful! Thanks for all the information.
Very popular here in Japan, many buy small bottle shots that has Taurine as the main ingredient, I buy them also, but also have capsules from NOW, at 64 maybe very important for me
Thanks for the update
Taurine has def helped me along with Glycine, Glutamine, and zinc. Too some time but I believe it’s really balanced the GABA/Glutamate balance in my body.
Thank you David for another great video. I eat a WFPB realize that there are things I’m missing in my diet. Will look into adding this to my stack
Good stuff, just started taking Taurine !
Vielen Dank für die wertvolle Information zu taurin 🙏🙏🙏
Great comprehensive coverage thx David.
Thanks!
Thanks David. Always appreciate your videos.
Thanks!
Great content as always, thank you!
Thanks
Thank you for all your research . I just found your original Taurine video 2 days ago & was glad to see your update today . I'm onboard .
Thanks! I've gotten better as I do more of these. It makes me cringe to watch a video I made 5 years ago.
Good info! Thank you
Welcome!
Thank you! I take glynac + taurine every day!
What a wonderful resource, your list of nootropics-- thank you!
Welcome!
Thanks!
And thank you! Our community and I appreciate your support.
Thanks. Very Comprehensive.
Thank you!
Thank you from NZ, I take magnesium Taurate with b6.
Taurine is great before the gym thanks for good information, I'm also loving nac before sleep ❤
Very informative update.Thanks Dave
Thank you Abraham.
Thank you for the update. That was a lot of info, and have to watch the video again to take it all in😊 A couple month ago I’ve started supplementing 1.000 mg. of taurine daily - along with NAC and Glycine. Earnestly I can’t say for sure if I have felt a difference, but I will continue and give it time. NAC however changed my life - my asthma/bronchitis have largely disappeared since I started supplementing half a year ago.
Try increasing your dose of Taurine. It's safe to use up to 3 grams per day.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I learn so much from you.
Thanks!
I'm getting that book to support the good work! thanks Dr. Toman! your work is appreciated.
I think you'll enjoy the book. It's like a reference manual for your brain. But I'm not a doctor. Haven't played on on TV either. Just a guy who discovered these supplements and they literally saved my life.
Thanks much!
Welcome!
Love tuning in, As usual you present and informative and incisive look into any subject you broach, thank you so much pretty amazing
Thank you Carlos!
This is great channel 👍
thank you! Please help spread the word. A lot of people need this information.
Thanks sir👍👍🌺🌺
Great info.
Thanks!
Thank you so much, David! Your work is outstanding and extremely useful. Suggest you reference your name more in the video description. You offer so much in your videos and related description and research work. So valuable! All the very best to you!
Never occurred to me to promote myself. Thanks for your kind words. Much appreciated.
Oh Wow! I am watching this cause I just started to take Taurine 2 days ago, 1 capsule of 1,000 mg before going to bed. I've noticed right away that my eyes are not.
dry anymore, also I do not squinch to read, i had tinitus which started cause of a lot of stress and pressure at work and it diminished conderably and have some peace and quiet now. I know you said it takes a little time before you notice changes, I noticed yesterday, my sleep has improved too, i sleep deeply and wake up completely rested and ready to go I feel so good! Now I know why my dogs love their liver, they eat it even before the bones and meat
Thank you for Blessing us with your knowledge.
I makes a lot of sense, i remember when I was a little girl that all my family would have liver twice a week, my grand parents as well.
And in those days it was never heard about Ellzhimer's, Autism, ADD.
And if you continue using Taurine it should help you live longer according to a couple of worldwide clinical studies.
All your videos rock 🪨 🧠
Thank you!
I started taking Designs for Health Taurine
Also im on a Ketovore- Carnivore Diet
I can definitely tell it helps with my mood!
This is a Great video for information
Thanks
YOUR ADVICE AND TAURINE ARE AMAZINGLY BENEFITIAL YOU ARE MY GURU AND TAURINE IS MY FAVORITE SUPPLEMENT❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ 4 GRAMS DAILY
You humble me Robert. Thank you.
Maybe I missed it, but taurine has also been associated with reducing Afib.
You did miss it because I remember mentioned that somewhere in this video.
I'll be requesting Taurine blood level with next phlebotomy.
I believe I will up my dosage to 2 grams from 1 gram now.
❤ for the algorithm
Another reason why those on carnivore end up feeling so much better. The abundance of amino acids heal. I found out a long time ago I could add a selection of amino acids to a stevia enhanced beet root powder in a jumbo 32 ounce water container. It tastes like a salty koolaid & enhances my day like no breakfast can.
My second dosage of nootropics comes in my jumbo cup of bulletproof coffee, which feeds the fats to take a few vitamins / minerals. It's tasty & my brain lights up like an xmas tree, no caffeine needed.
Aminos are one of the least expensive & safest ways to mitigate healing.
I've read that Taurine (along with Glutamine) are helpful for people suffering from alcohol withdrawal symptoms, such as "the shakes" and heart palpitations. Based on your research into this amino acid, what dosage seems to stand out as a safe, and potentially effective dose for the aforementioned problems? Thank you for taking time out to make this video 👍
Richard, it is safe to use up to 3 grams of Taurine per day. That should be enough for what you want to use it for,.
Fantastic info
Glad you found it helpful. Thanks!
I sort of wonder about taurine for ADHD.
I recently heard about the MTHFR snp and started taking tmg - o m gawd the difference it made in only a month ! I've started gaining muscle, I sleep better and brain fog is lifting !
Why am I ranting on tmg ? Because methionine wasn't getting properly recycled, leading to increased homo cysteine AND decreased taurine ! Aha !
Thanks for the great Update 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻Is it okay to give kids Taurin…. Dose?
You'll need to ask their doctor about this one.
Great review! Is it better to take it before bed or in the morning? Can I mix it with other supplements or an empty stomach is best?
Yes to all of the above
great vid thx. what do you recommend to heal autoimmune hashimotos?
Bruce, you can't "heal" Hashimoto's. All you can do is manage and control it.
Thank you doc for your efforts to provide us this valuable info. Can glycine and taurine be supplemented together/simultaneously.
Yes
Thank you for your efforts and commitment to educating people to stay outside of the allopathic medical system and away from the pharmaceutical mafia.
Magnesium l threonate and taurine for essential tremors? Make a video on this?
Sal I don't have enough material to do a video on essential tremors. But I did do one for Parkinson's and some of the supplements in that video have been found to be helpful for essential tremor.
Hi, I just want to confirm eating MSG can make you Taurine deficient?
Taurine shoud be taken in powder form. I believe it has to react with the stomach first.
Michael, Taurine in capsules is powder.
I agree with all the people leaving compliments, here in this Comment section. You do great work, and have helped me a lot.
Regarding a sensible dosage of Taurine (for help with OCD and anxiety disorders in general), is it OK to start out with taking 1,000 mg two or three times a day? Rather than the 500 mg dose suggested ("two or three times a day") in your Description above?
I mistakenly bought a large bottle that has 1,000 mg of Taurine in them, per capsule. Is it worth it to simply pour our half the powder from each capsule, discarding it, before taking a dose? Or is there "no problem" with taking a full 1,000 mg multiple times per day? (Usually, and for most people, that is ... )
Double check and make sure that the supplement you have is 1,000 mg in one capsule. Because it is more likely 500 mg per capsule.
I personally use 1,000 mg Taurine twice per day. And could safely add another 1,000 mg if I felt the need. But that dose works for me.
@@NootropicsExpertthe Supplement I have is Life Extension's Taurine, and it is 1,000 mg per capsule. Dosage & Use given by them is: Take one (1) capsule one to three times daily on an empty stomach, or as directed by ... With some supplements (other than Taurine, that is), I've read that it's best to start out gradually and slowly, and build up to eventually be taking the full optimal dose desired, daily. I'm wondering if Taurine falls into that category, -OR- rather, if a person can just start taking the full optimal dose of it, daily and regularly.
Is there any benefit from "going slow" with Taurine, in starting out with it?
Thanks.
I suggests starting slow with every supplement until you find out if it works for you. Or not. Better to use one capsule per day and see how your body responds. If all is good then add another capsule at noon then next day. And if that works consider adding a 3rd capsule around 4 PM the next day.
@@NootropicsExpertThanks a lot! Very helpful.
What happens to taurine if you ferment shell fish? We ferment mussels, krill and fish in the Philippines.
Bobby, it may depend on what you are fermenting. This study with oysters shows Taurine increases after fermentation: pulse.ly/d2la01o4fr
Hello David, I started taking Taurine today. I have Retinitis Pigments as well as hearing loss and the oh so musical Tinnitus. Fingers crossed it helps. My actual question is for my 10 year old grandson who has been diagnosed with Conversion Disorder, it’s been so scary with non epileptic seizures as well he has had temporary paralysis. There has been no offer of supplements therapy so we started him on B-12 and magnesium (no oxide). What’s your thoughts on Taurine for him?
Stacy, you can try Taurine. Another shown to help is Sulforaphane. See my video on this channel for that supplement.
Sounds very similar to NAC. I was actually getting ready to buy NAC mainly for some nerve issues and migraines I've been having but your video popped up and I'm wondering if I should stack it with taurine or if it should be only one or the other. Any thoughts David?
I use both and they work great for me. The only way to find out if it'll work for you is to try them.
Can you take it with l cysteine and ltyrosene?
Thank you😊
Yes
Do you think taurine can help tinnitus?
Yes
Hello David. what’s your take on narcolepsy & cataplexy. Is there any evidence regarding nootropic supplementation for these conditions?
There is not much evidence regarding nootropics and narcolepsy but you could try Vitamin D, a BioActive B-Complex and L-Tyrosine 500 mg twice per day.
How does it affect the heart
My area of expertise is the human brain. You'll need to find a channel that deals with heart health for this one.
Hi. I hope you read this comment. I was going to book an appointment and talk about my daughter and seizures. But first I wanted to ask if you have had much dealings with epilepsy. If there is a way to message you privately please let me know. Thankyou
I have done a few consultations with parents with kids and seizures. I'll do my best to help any way I can.
Is taurine good for eye health
yes
What if some takes it for long and stops..any withdrawal symptoms ,changes in behaviour??
No. Not with Taurine.
How do you feel about modafinil ?
Chris, as far as I can tell Modafinil is a great smart drug and appears to be safer to use long-term compared to the other stimulants in that class of drugs. But it is a drug and NOT a nootropic.
Did they recall the book? I cannot find it available at any of the sellers. None. Not even used. If I can't obtain the book I'm going to need a copy of David, how much?
Unfortunately, Head First is out of stock worldwide because I'm looking for a new publisher.
So, please stay tuned and I'll be sending an email as soon as this is resolved.
Never had an energy drink. 67 years..
does it go well with high blood pressure meds?
It should not be a problem.
Do you recommend lions mane possibly?
I need to update this video but it's all I have for now: pulse.ly/3bc81i6jn5
What is the best time to take Taurine? I'm taking mine before bed now.
Brenda, the best time to use Taurine is the time that works for you. The key is using it everyday.
Dr, u said taking taurine affects Bipolar people.
Cud they take the minimum dose? If so, wats the dose?
Thks
Tony, I said "High taurine dosage should be avoided if you are dealing with bipolar disorder because it could make your symptoms worse." Some studies show those with bipolar are deficient in Taurine. So a dose of 500 mg - 1,000 mg may help. But if it makes it worse for you then reduce the dose.
Is taurine safe to take with methylene blue?
It is not contraindicated.
Excellent information except for recommending coffee/caffeine. Caffeine is detrimental to good health. I recommend reading the book, “Caffeine Blues”.
And I recommend that you watch my video on Caffeine Rich. pulse.ly/zmgt1cjprj
Sir, how do you maintain such good eye contact??? Are you using a teleprompter, or do you just have an exceptional memory due to your expert self-administration of nootropics? I wish I had that ability.
Mark, think about this for a minute. I do not know anyone who could memorize a half hour worth of script no matter how good your nootropic stack. A teleprompter is the best option for doing these videos.
Nowadays you have teleprompter apps. I still have an old fashioned one on an old fashioned camera 😅
can i take taurine 3000mg Nac 2000mg and Glycine 2000mg togather before workout plz?anyone can give their advice plz?
You could but Taurine max. daily dosage is 2,000 mg and NAC is 1,500 mg.
It's a massive stretch to say Taurine reverses Tinnitus. Hogwash! Not in my experience!
It works for "some" people. Not everyone. Sorry it did not work for you. I do have a few other supplements that may help if you are interested. Best to schedule a consultation with me and I'll walk you through them and anything else you need to talk about.
