Niles, MI Refurbished Allertor - 6/8/13

- Niles postponed the test from last saturday to this saturday due to the bluegrass festival. I decided to record this newly restored Allertor at Grand and Fairview on the east side of Niles. The FD was also here to confirm this siren's operation.

Yep! Niles has 3 Allertors. There is still one left to be refurbished which they will do this winter. They told me they hope to get at least 20 more years out of these.
Tell them they need to swap two legs of incoming power, siren is running backwards.
I saw one in a ghost town named Bushong KS and they have a Allertor that they fixed but it's rusty as heck and it has 2 screens in both horns it's a pretty strange allertor
So great to see an Allertor still in operation. And not just that, but refurbished and not replaced by a 2001 or Whelen :) Thanks for uploading

Hopefully at the one at the ball fields is working again.
Now I am thankful that my cousin who lives in Niles are safe that the sirens are in good shape and ready for any action.
I wished Beaver Dam, WI kept their siren like this one. SOunds a lot better then the 2001
You can only run this thing so long before the power cord gets all wound up and breaks. Every other run, the unit has to turn backwards to unwind the cord.

I asked them if they were here to check the siren's operation, they said yes. Then I told them that the one at the ball fields isn't working properly. They said "Yeah we know, that one's been giving us problems."
