    Watch out for the dust. Other medias are safer than sand. Silicosis from using sand is very real. A model with a ceramic nozzle lasts longer, but for something small, that does the job.

    I'm a cheap bastard but I'd probably spend a little more to get something that might deliver more satisfactory results and hold up better - without zip ties. The beer looks good though.

    For irregular small blast jobs the best is still the old HF handle gun toy dip the hose in a small pail of sand . Mine was $5 years back. I went to the pressure pot and ended up tossing it after it clogged constantly with compressor moisture. The cheap one with a 3/4” hose ain’t fancy but it never clogs either .
    I’ve got one of those little spot guns too. It works for tiny spots but by the time you screw around filling it you’re better off with your small pail and old faithful.

    • @petestools
      @petestools  2 місяці тому

      Who knew a $5 handle gun toy could be so reliable? Old faithful indeed!

    • @drizler
      @drizler 2 місяці тому

      @@petestools I upgraded to HF pressurepot circa 1999. Thought oh wow, 5x faster. I blasted my cars bars base with that in mid August nice and dry hot. My tank is in the basement nice and cool with 40’ of 3/4” light copper tubing and 😠2 J Traps. I paint panels and the occasional entire car with this rig using no air dryer.
      Fast forward the sand was soon coming out like a squirt gun and the valve plugging at the bottom of the tank. Rinse repeat a hundred or so times and out come the ElCheapo and it just plain worked. Those pots may be great if you’ve got bone dry air which isn’t happening naturally in most places. Sand blasters use tons of air and it generates moisture like crazy. That moisture doesn’t seem to build up in the pail dip gun enough to plug anything. The HF tank used a too short cheap soon to crack hose and a poor trigger / regulator setup and was hard to get to run reliably even before it moisture up👎🏻. Thats my nickles worth.
      The small spot gun actually is handy for the reason that rust loves crevices. Your 4.5” wire wheels won’t get in there well to clean it up. So by doing the majority with wheels and using those guns for only those hard to get at places they do really show their usefulness.

    You could but should not reuse head gaskets and if you do use the special gasket spray and do NOT sand blast it it can destroy it.

    Now that's an interesting cheap solution. If you have a small project that crops every once in awhile, it would be useful for getting rust or paint off. For some that might require too much patience, but for others, just more time to enjoy a good bear as you have discovered. So, based on your experience, I give it five stars. It's cheap and might even be multi-purpose. Will it spray paint or texture?! Maybe it could be used in the Spring as a planter for spraying seeds into the ground. The more I think about it, the more I like it! Gotta get me one!

    MLS steel head gaskets and copper head gaskets are both reusable. Copper gaskets do need to be annealed first before reassembly.

    Depends how often you use it, I have a $20 Australian aluminium gun and plastic reservoir, ok for small thing's, but the little air compressor can't keep up for long, when I use the sand blaster I use two air compressors into a large tank, but still only lasts 15 minutes 😢 but not too bad, most thing's are made of that plastic now, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones

    Pete you should try one of those temu blasters with a REALLY powerfull compressor my dad tried it and it worked better but after a while the stuff self destructed from the inside you should see what it can handle maybe a heavy duty one as a durabilty test against amazons one

    those cheap pot on the top sand blasters all have the same problems.
    there are mods for some of the problems.
    opening up the hole the sand comes out of the plastic bottl thru is one known improvement.
    .
    THE biggest issue is the amount of sand they carry, you only get a few minutes of blasting.
    They are ok for spot blasting, but that is about all.
    .
    the bucket and hose types are a bit more useful
    .
    Of course THE problem with all sand blasting is Air demand, for most people having a compressor that will keep up is the biggest issue.

      @petestools  2 місяці тому

      Hey, thanks for the heads-up about those sand blasters! Spot blasting, huh? I'll keep that in mind for my next DIY project.

    I bought one of those. Works well for the small things I need it for. It's not meant for big jobs. I use Baking Soda, crushed walnut shell, etc
    You can modify the bottom of the pistol directly under the Tank port to add a siphon hose to a bag or bucket of your blasting medium, so you don't have to refill every 60 seconds.
    It's a great time saver for stained wood that needs to be recovered to stock by sanding. Sure, you can sand by hand on the flat surface, but what about those crevices and tight corners.
    This tool is useful in many ways without having to buy bigger and more expensive versions.
