My dad was a mechanical engineer and machinist. He loved making hot air engines. If he was alive I would send this to him and I’m sure he would make a little Sterling engine like this one. I really enjoy your videos. The hacks and gadgets are always fun to see.
Yeah, that would be great! I'd like to see something that I can take on my bushcraft trips and find a use for like pumping water or generate 12v energy etc. Just to have some fun with it and maybe it'll turn into something that's actually practical!
Small warning for anyone thinking of purchasing the sand art, it is FRAGILE, at least the one I got. The glass shatters kinda easily and mine even fell out of the frame a little
Dave the first gadget can also be used by not rotating it all the way upside down and instead at an angle so more of the sand is in the water, but can still move down. This way it moves much quicker!
I like the Stirling engine because it's a simple but elegant design. It's also a great way to learn about thermodynamics and the way energy can be converted from one form to another. It's also a very practical device, as it can be used to power small machines and devices. Plus, it's just a fun project to work on
Funny you say that. I have a 17" one that is mounted to my wall with LEDs around the frame. Before I go to bed, I spin it over and turn the light on a deep blue color. It's so mesmerizing and helps me fall asleep. I really like it.
The Stirling engine is actually a great little thing, there are many options on all sorts of online shops, will probably get one as a gift for my grandma!
@@Робототехникаотдетейдлядетей fun fact: you can also use it with realy cold drink but you do need some ice in it but it doesnt go so fast with ice bc it works via a heat DIFFERENCE so you can also do that if you like to but tea does work better
I always watch your newest of videos! They are just so entertaining and I can't explain why. I have been subscribed for you for more than 3 years now, And I still watch your content! Amazing video, Davehax!
It's a dying art. I feel somewhat complicit in killing it (I've hated handwriting since I was 5!), but I do admire well-executed handwriting whenever I see it.
That little steam engine is definitely a nice piece, but certainly for a private workspace. If people think noisy keyboards are bad, imagine that thing next door.
The stifling engine… I have the same one you’ve shown…works with a cup of ice water in a warm room also…invented in the 1700s I was told… but there are some people here on UA-cam posting videos os powering row boats with larger ones
I'm your newest subscriber cos you're so cool: that cheerily excited voice, those absolutely useless stuff (but so funny that I was pretty amused). The best thing Nr. two, I think that even James Watt would laugh in his grave. Good job Dave.
Me and my mom watch you acesionally, and we absolutely love it! It’s always so fun, and we’ve even bought some of the things you have reviewed! Great work my guy! ❤
My favourite is the sand art, but considering the management where I work won't let us personalise our desks in any way there's no chance I would be allowed to have one at work.
When someone finds the syringe in your desk, I'd like to hear how you explain it. I'd also like to hear you explain to your wife why you bought a $100+ ball point pen. The Stirling engine will give you an excuse to take a coffee break every half hour.
Used to have one of those sand-plates(? ) quite a few years back It was a gift to my mom, I dont recall from who tho It was a rectangle shape instead of circular and it sat on our piano until it eventually broke
I remember 30+ years ago playing with a couple rectangular sand art things and they were great fun. But I don't remember any air bubbles and I think they may have possibly been just coloured sand of different densities with no liquid. I've no idea what they were and never seen anything like them until now.
Hi Dave. I love the patterns those sand things make. I sometimes think of getting one. I used to manufacture Sterling Engine's for a UK company called Kontax. Theirs start from about £120 and I think less of the 3D printed ones. The reason I mentioned them is the quality of the product. Unlike the ones from China, Kontax engines are far better quality. They also look better. Another UA-camr featured one in his video. He was really impressed and he wasn't sent for review either. Trevor
Did you like them? Which was your favorite? Links to the gadgets in the description...
You didn’t ❤️ your own comment
haven't watched fully... I'll edit this comment and I'll comment which one is my favorite.

The sand toy was great! A question: have you ever Made a Video about car Gadgets and bicycle gadgets? Would be pretty cool, huh!

Liquid motion toys of the 90's need to make a comeback. Those things were so much fun.

My first dentist had like 2 dozen of those. I always enjoyed flipping them over when I was a kid.

Pretty Cool Huh!

Had you not ever seen sand art like that? They were all over the place when I was a kid in the 80s, mostly in doctor’s offices.
Everyone of these items would have been seen in a Sharper Image catalog in the 80s.
Or in one of their ads in Omni Magazine.
Good timing Dave, considering all our computers are down 😂
wait i thought that was just company computers cuz nobody needs that much security on their PC
If your computer is down, how are you watching?
I just realized, you can have a different device without the software.

100 pounds for a pen is crazy
That's one heavy pen.
That's about $125. :-(
Luxury. 😑
You'd think if if you're paying that much you would get more than 2 refills.
Ikr like what if u lost it
The Sterling engine should work on either a cup of hot coffee or a cup of ice water. Try it.
I would install it on top of a router so that it would never stop unless the power went out!
@@mikeorjimmy2885If your router gets that hot, you should replace it asap. 😅
I used to watch this guy as a kid so happy to see he's still around and still getting alot of views much deserved ❤
*a lot. No such word as "alot". 🤣

That 23,5° angle isn't random, it's the rotation angle of the earth relative to it's orbital plane.
It has no real bearing on the form & function of the pen, but I still wouldn't have chosen another angle 😁
Dave the first gadget can also be used by not rotating it all the way upside down and instead at an angle so more of the sand is in the water, but can still move down. This way it moves much quicker!
I hope this man gets paid well for these promotions =D

I have a sterling engine very similar to this one. I often enjoyed setting it on my coffee up at work just to admire it running.

I like the falling sand one. It looks relaxing to watch. My desk is too small for it though.
But, I thought it was a good Video. And it's my choice is to pick a Stirling Engine. It's a beautiful way to cool off. So, I can have a Warm drink.

The fact that the pen is a ballpoint pen is a bit disappointing
