- Another blog in the world that is MK1 Focuses... this time we take a look at a MAF sensor, this was only fitted to certain models and requires a little bit of TLC now and again so it reads accurately. I explain how it works and how to diagnose possible issues with the sensor or the wiring that feeds it, with a simople multi-meter!

Wrong there pal! I have 1.8 16V Zetec 1st Gen and it has the same set up... I got done off the line by an Abathe 500 in Bracknell (which didn't seem right), so I got some MAF / throttle body cleaner and gave it a spray. The car worked much better afterwards; though, I did replace the TPS sensor, clean/decarb the throttle body and flush the idle control valve at the same time... It near-on doubled the power of the thing... Well worth doing!
Loving the vids as always, keep them up; especially the Rover stuff.
Ah I stand corrected! They did fit them to those engines as well!
Yeah they work so much better afterwards when you clean these things out, carbon lines these areas pretty badly after some mileage.
Thankyou so much buddy I really appreciate it. There's a lot more coming:)
@@usuallyfixingtinkering 1999 4 door with a Ghia package my friend. In Pacific Green!! It has very little rust in the arches from what I have seen... Will look to treat those areas in the warmer months of next year though!
@@jobeblogs4539 what a wicked colour, a perfect colour for an early one! That's a good sign and not unusual on the early ones as I suspect better quality metal was used. Keep on at it, the rewards you get will pay you back :)
I'm pretty sure the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor was fitted to all 1.4 - 2.0 petrol models of the Mk1 in the UK, manual or auto. The diesels had a MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor.
I believe only the 1.8 LPG model actually had BOTH sensors! ;)
No it was never fitted to manual models, they got MAP sensors. I'm not as familiar with the bifuel lpg 1.8 models so you could be right.
@@usuallyfixingtinkering I was doubting my own senility and so checked with Ford TIS and Microcat and even the Haynes manual shows MAF for petrol and MAP for diesel.
@@Drew-Dastardly I have corrected this error it was fitted to the 1.8 and 2.0 models, but the 1.4 and 1.6 manuals never got them. Lol The haynes manual is dreadful for inaccuracies!
@@usuallyfixingtinkering You're not wrong about Haynes book of lies!
I had another look at TIS and it is called a TMAP sensor because it does temperature too and unlike MAP sensors that usually go on the bulkhead it is actually at the intake you indicated. So I'm corrected on 1.4/1.6. ;)
@@Drew-Dastardly oh yes the book of lies, I rarely look at it apart from torque values.
Hello, my engine's zetec se sticker has been worn out,any way i can replace it? I'm scared of printing a sticker and putting it on because it's probably gonna melt because of the temperature. Any advice? I really like your videos and i couldn't think of anyone better to ask. Thank you!
I'm afraid you need a 2nd hand rocker cover as it's printed on!
@@usuallyfixingtinkering is it possible to print it again?
@@fpngames4403 you'd have to go to someone who can replicate it in stickervform but I doubt it would stick sadly due to the surface.
@@usuallyfixingtinkering i understand, i found one on ebay for 100 dollars in very good condition, I'll probably get that once i have the chance. Thanks a lot man !
Mines not gor a maf sensir
Yours is a 1.6 manual isn't it Darren? It won't have a maf sensor just a map!
