In this video, we will understand the meaning and significance of Preamble of the Indian Constitution.
The Preamble was the last Part to be inserted in the Constitution. The Preamble has been given a lot of names such as identity card of the Constitution, Soul of the Constitution, etc. By the end of the Video we will also discuss 2 very important questions:
1. Is Preamble a Part of the Indian Constitution?
2. Can the Preamble be Amended?
And we will answer these questions through 2 important case laws: Re Berubari and Exchange of Enclaves and Kesavananda Bharati v. State of Kerala
Preamble serves the following purpose:
It specifies the Source of the Constitution
It specifies the Nature of the Constitution
It specifies the ideas, Aspirations and main Objectives of that the Indian Constitution seeks to achieve
It also specifies the date of Adoption of the Constitution i.e., 26th November 1949.
