I'd call it an F. Several moves needed to be made. One positive move was made, one negative move was made. Evens out to a status quo team. Not better this year. Not better next year.
I guess I’m being generous with solid C. I think morel trade was loss overall but leiter trade was good considering his age and cubs return. Wish cubs would have made some more moves but oh well they probably getting lowballed by every org
I’d grade this as a D. Like I’ve said in the past we cannot trust this leadership on putting this team in the right path. For them not making more moves and trying to shed payroll is irresponsible. We need a change at the top
I'd give Jed a D grade. Paredes was a good acquisition, and Morel has been a major disappointment. But we didn't dump much salary, and no one else is really major-league ready player. No catcher and no closer. And no star player, which we need in the middle of the order.
I was hoping for a 3rd baseman , a catcher or a young BP arm. Very glad they landed a 3rd baseman. They waited one year too long on trading Morel. Love that trade
There's two reasons to like the Paredes trade. 1. He's a significantly better defender at a need position 2. He doesn't strikeout remotely close to Morel who reminds me of Baez in that he's a total guess hitter. To me, this was a no brainer. Filled an immediate need moving forward. Also, you can't measure success of the trade based on counting stats. What guys do in the clutch is what matters. That & their ability to control the zone. Paredes wins in both areas.
After the ashes hit the ground, How much money fell off the books for the Cubs? I am the most surprised that a deal on Tallion didn't get done. We need a stud Offensive player (Insert Soto Here) That is going to cost prolly 32 mill just to set at that table. Not to mention the gaping hole behind home plate. Good show Mick
The pathetic part is it seems they weren't even trying hard to move Taillon. There was interest from a few teams...but the facts that the front office 1) allowed Taillon to pitch a 💩 start day before deadline and 2) accorind to Taillon never asked him about any teams interested (which they're required to with nearly half the league according to his contract)... which is a garbage contract they have him for that amount of money and allowed no-trade clause at all.
Morel and Bigge for Paredes (too early to grade that trade Mark Leiter Jr for prospects C Nate Pearson for peospects B Morel's walk off agaimst the white Sox Morel hugging Paul Goldschmidt after a walk.
D- for unloading Morel and getting an actual base ball player back. Every trade dealine is important (previous jed and theo). Jed must not believe that because we had some guys that could have brought you something back. I'd give him an E, but that would require EFFORT.
Kyle thanks for the giveaway! looking forward to getting the stuff in. The grade I would give this trade deadline is probably c-. Mostly because if we are seriously looking to contend in 2025 then we need to get some work for those AAA guys that are knocking on the door BUT we wont because they are log jammed by the current roster who will mostly be here next year. All we did was get a more ready 3b with Paredes but he doesnt solve the the lack luster offensive.
Leiter trade? Loved Leiter, but another no brainer. You don't need veteran arms in the bullpen of a non contender. Getting younger with upside makes a lot more sense. Cowles plays all IF positions & gets on base. Neely, at 6-8, is a heavy arm that projects late in the pen. Another great move on a team that is building.
He’s 2-8 with 2 home runs. If they traded Patrick Wisdom and he had the same results, would you say he was “on fire”? The numbers are clear, Paredes is a proven player (offensively and defensively). Morel definitely has a higher ceiling offensively, but I’d rather have the sure thing. With that said, I miss Morel. Great clubhouse guy
All of these folks saying "sign Soto", you're forgetting that this isn't a video game. We could offer Soto $900M over 15 and it's no guarantee that he will accept. Seriously, would you want to play for this team as it's constructed? In the end, it comes down to the player. They ultimately decide where they WANT to sign. It doesn't matter how much money a team has if the player does not want to play for them.
Shaw can play SS or 2B. ditto Ben Cowles. James Triantos is a 2B. both Ian Happ & Michael Busch can also play 2B, even though Cubs management prefers to play them @ LF & 1B, respectively.
@@SetupManCubs If his arm is strong enough to play 3B, then he can play SS. If Jed Hoyer can trade both Dansby Swanson & Nico Hoerner before next season's trade deadline, then Cowles & Shaw could be Cubs middle infield tandem for more than a decade.
@@johnbrennan4449 I’m just telling you what scouts are saying within the Cubs org. Seems they see him primarily as a 2B due to the lack of arm strength
I really don’t see anyone in this farm system being a future all star. How many do you even think will be every day guys in the future? Caissie and Shaw will be every day above average guys. I really can’t see PCA having an OPS over .700. Ballesteros could be a guy, but man this whole thing is pretty depressing
Once PCA is a league average hitter (.240, 10-12 HR, .320 OBP), he will lead the team in WAR mainly because of his defense and base running. Doesn’t need to be an all-star, just needs to bring us Ws
I'd say B. Everything we did is reasonable. But we should have traded Taillon. good for him (finishes his career season with a contender) and we offload an exorbitant contract for an older player who likely won't pitch this good again
Jed keeps talking like he keeps using hope as a strategy! He’s hoping players out do their projections…can you get any more robotic? Can’t help himself.
hoyer only makes terrible and shameful decisions. We are now among the last destinations that any talent would choose. He may have accidentally gotten lucky with the Leiter deal. Morel was the remaining heart that this team desperately needs in the void of honor and leadership. Shameful. And not trading Taillon was moronic. Worst executive in sports should be removed today. So many people care about our franchise and even a typical fan would be a huge improvement.
I bet more guys were sad they weren’t traded. This whole organization has bad energy now thanks to Jed….hear his comments today? Holy….is this guy clueless.
I don’t care how you cut it, Jed is just not good at his job. Starting with dumping Darvish I knew it was all gonna head down hill. His smart spending and his retool is a sad joke, kind of like the state of our team.

Both guys from Yankees are Rule 5 eligible, did not know 1 was out the year. 🤔
Notice Swanson has been way better since the trade, because he doesn't have to play a foot over. Also gonna help Nico. Get that Gold Glove IF back
I’d grade this as a D.
Like I’ve said in the past we cannot trust this leadership on putting this team in the right path. For them not making more moves and trying to shed payroll is irresponsible.
We need a change at the top
To add Jhoan Duran long term. Yeah, Twins were listening. What do you want??? Ok, deal 😂💯
The front office has no plan.
We are basically looking at next year’s team already.
Last place must be the goal.
hoyer does not care about our team or our traditions.
Tom Ricketts only wants to win 82 games
I'd give Jed a D grade. Paredes was a good acquisition, and Morel has been a major disappointment. But we didn't dump much salary, and no one else is really major-league ready player. No catcher and no closer. And no star player, which we need in the middle of the order.

Morel is a bad fielder
Morel is on fire now with the rays if you know baseball you know morel is a stud !!!!

I don't understand the Paredes trade with Shaw coming up.

too early to give up on either Caleb Kilian or Alexander Canario.
It will happen morel will be a all star badctrade

I don't see the CUBS getting Soto. He's probably going to be a Yankee for life.
Should have traded Steele
Freaking Morel homered again today. 🤣
Trading Nico and Steele would be going from A To z in a bad way just like they always do bad trades just like they did Madux terrible
C+
Trading for morel was a bad trade
Why didn’t they go after the catcher in Colorado?

D - due to lack of players of interest to offer teams
C-
Should of moved Smyley and Neris and Belly Hendricks too. That would be enough to get Soto. 😮
Couldn't trade Hendricks he earned his 5-10 rights. I wouldn't trade Belli. Neris and Smyly yeah.
If the manager's not the, then we need a team leader😡
