  • Michael Farchi claims that he was stung by a scorpion at the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas. He is suing, but none of this makes much sense.

So the scorpion took the elevator, got into his room, got into bed with him, inside his underwear and stung him? That’s NUTS!

The fact that he was able to take a picture of the scorpion after getting stung in the balls is the most impressive to me..

Nobody is going to sting themselves in the balls as a scam. They would sting themselves in a different area

The appearance and coloration of the scorpion in the victim's photo marks it as a bark scorpion. This particular scorpion was not native to Southern Nevada until approximately 40 years ago, when it was imported from Arizona on palm trees that were planted in master-planned communities all over the Las Vegas valley. These neighborhoods are now infested with this species of scorpion, which is the most toxic of any in North America. I don't think it's farfetched to assume that this man unwittingly transported one of them in his luggage to the hotel and ended up getting stung. As you mentioned, these scorpions are excellent climbers and often fall from the ceiling onto a bed, where it stings the occupant.

I was in the USAF and stationed at George AFB, CA, and my unit would go to Nellis AFB 3 or more times a year. I was an aircraft mechanic, and we would have to check at a distance for scorpions around the main landing gear for scorpions. They would hide in the wheel hubs and brakes because the brakes would stay warm for hours after the aircraft landed. We would stay in one star hotels in Vegas, and I never saw any scorpions around the hotel. This seems fishy to me.

P.S.: I've seen cockroaches while wandering the Strip plentiful times (outside the resorts, mind you). Not like large groups of them dominating the walkways or anything of that magnitude, but individual ones are definitely a frequent site for me whenever I'm there.

I don't know Steven, it looks quite a bit like the one your wife had the video of. I can believe it made it's way into the Venetian, either in some luggage that he or a previous guest brought. Or possibly it even managed to get on a housekeeping cart. I would tend to believe him as I can't imagine any man allowing a scorpion to sting his "family jewels". It seems that you, who has been stung by a scorpion, while in bed, in Las Vegas, would not imply the guy is a liar.

One of the biggest tells I noticed with this gentleman’s tale, is he lacked on common element in his storytelling that everyone else who has ever had the misfortune of being stung has included, the searing pain that accompanies the venomous sting. Also, peculiar that it’s left hanging, unalive in the precise spot? Seems to be lacking more visual evidence. Nice catch of it being non-native to Vegas.
Fun fact: scorpions glow under black light. Just another reason to travel with one. lol

The scorpion was missing its claws and since it wasn’t a native scorpion, it was an inserted object. Why state the bite was in his testicles? I guess for trolling purposes.

And all the rare yellow-billed loon had to do was..............chill in the Bellagio fountains..............and it got an immediate suite upgrade! XD
Besides: the guy didn't leave the "Do Not Disturb" sign on his door. So the resort staff should have invalidated the upgrade anyway. ;)

Its not impossible, but very unlikely. I still think its more possible he brought the scorpion himself, knowingly or unknowingly. Its also possible another guest brought along some pet scorpions and lost them. Its Vegas, Ive seen stranger things happen.

Not unless Michael the british tourist/ entrepreneur went out hiking Redrocks/summerlin trails and possibly hitchhiked with him bruahing w plants, debris who knows and went back to his Venetian w the scorpion hung to his pants. Thats another indication abd this is scorpion season here in the valley. He must have proof if he visitied out there as a strip tourist??? Hmmmm?

    • @NOTLeavingLV

Given that scorpions are arachnids and are mainly dormant in cold weather due to them not having bones but pumping blood to live limbs, it is not scorpion season. Especially in December.
