Hey! A handful of additional new nodes (and sparkly Geometry Node features) have been added to 4.1 since I knitted this video. The official release is on March 19th and I'll be releasing a second "WHAT"S NEW" video just before. So don't worry. I've got you. Completists rejoice!
I work almost 10 years in the industry and have a increasingly hard time to keep up with things, due to a increasingly bad lack of time. And because I have indeed some experience I cannot bear to watch 2/3 of the blender and 3D related videos on youtube. I love your style and effort. Keep it up! Love it.
I feel like I need to subscribe again purely for the polish in the presentation of this video, it's like the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, except for Blender... Fantastic work as usual!
This is the sort of documentation that works for me. The whole "watch what I do and try to guess how I'm doing it" sorts of tutorials are really rough.
your work is impecable! I love your videos so much! you are amazing! these need 1000x the veiws! technical, informative briliant and a great sense of humor! you are a true artist!
I'm super excited for the index switch, bake, and active camera nodes! They're all nodes I've wanted so badly, I had to make a node group just to do what the index switch does (I needed to switch between 20+ slots so it wasn't pretty), it'd be nice if there were arrays that could be accessed in the geometry node's modifier parameters but oh well
The pink rotation data point i believe is actually a rotation matrix, not a quaternion. Not that it matters very much. But i think geo-nodes makes it look a bit confusing, by visually representing the rotation in an Euler way making it hard for people to understand the difference between Euler and a rotation.
Yep. Writing this video, finding firm and simple language to describe the rotation socket was really difficult. The point is though that it now needs less explaining. It just works
Thank you! The motion of the nodes/noodles is all captured in the geometry node editor. I use a lot of old school animation techniques to make them move in a distinct way. I think there’s still some refining to do (the effect and the pipeline) but I’m really happy with the results so far
😂 Great presentation and explanation. Would love to know how you made this. I would welcome a Phil Collins node! You've definitely earned a like and subscribe, bell, etc.
Ha. Thanks! It’s all captured in the node editor and then manipulated in the edit. No big secret, just a handful of little animation tricks to make the motion more appealing
amazing! could u pls show exactly, click by click, to the last minute detail how u organise ur nodes, what bottons to press, i love how u only use vertical and horizontal straight lines, its so satisfying for my inner monk, i can do it but it doesnt feel smart and fast as u r doing it, basically my problem is that i have to shift+ R click and pull over a node line, than an additional node ball appears and this than i can drag around with G, but i would prefer to kina E extrude lines just as u have it in ur videos, how? (i know, urs is more like an animation and not the real workflow, but ive seen others extruding lines aswell in the actuall editior) also, sometimes, even tho i have grid snap enabaled, nodes r at slightly different hight, wich resulst in a non perfectly horizontal line more like 2-5° and that triggeres me, sounds weard but it almost stops me from doing geo nodes, so id really like to have an intuitive, exact snapping system where only 0°, 45° and 90° r possible, and last but not least, is there a way to have nodes auto distancing from each other, i hate when they overlapp, would be so cool if u could simply A select all and than scale everything down to the minimum total distance but all nodes having a few pixels of distance to each other... thx, u r awesome!
Thank you! The way you see the node trees grow in this video is like an instagram post - it’s this idealized version, design to be as attractive as possible, taken from reality but not entirely real. Have you tried the Noodler addon? It lets you “draw” noodles in the way that I think you’re wanting. I’m planning a complete node basics course sometime this year. And will definitely be covering placement technique in it. It’s tricky - creating a tidy tree while also creating a functional one can be really hard!
I really love the vids and the animations, would it be possible to change the grid dots on the background of the node editor to the same background color? It should make UA-cam compression effect the rest of the nodes less.
Thank you. Well spotted. I'm still tweaking the blender theme for these. The node editor dots are actually crucial to how I put the animation together, so they can't go away entirely. But I can definitely make them less of a distraction.
Ha. Thank you. Fingers crossed... though I'll just do another video. I think the old switch is staying put for the time being. But can see it being replaced in time
I hope they make the dynamic thing like the index switch also for math stuff like add/multiply/and/or so i don't need 20 add nodes for adding 20 results together...
I’ve seen this hope expressed in a number of places. Yes, it would be awesome for a math node. But then a custom group could do the same thing, be as tidy and be less hassle than a custom switch group with its bloat of compare nodes.
@@harryblends but a custom group still doesn't have that dynamic node connector on the outside. If you need another connection you need to go inside the group, add another input and multiply, to go outside again and connect it up. UE4 4 blueprints have this option for multiply and add nodes and it saves so much time setting up..
the bake node is the best one, hope it will fix the unreliability of the spreadsheet, i wish there was a button, that baked all the intermediate values, onto RAM, so when you rewind the timeline, you know the parameters you debug on the spreadsheet are reliable, the bake to disk, i don't get it, you're not saving complex geometry on disk its not houdini.
if you keep this up, I predict an exponential growth of your channel in 2024... (but what do I know...) 🤷♂ and then I'll be boasting that I was one of the first 1K subs ...!! 🦚

Im mesmerized with that node animations. Very well made!
Impressive presentation. Never seen anything like this before.
stumbled upon this video accidentally, information aside, what the hell is this production quality? That's an immediate sub from me
A tear dropped from my eye when i saw the Bake node, hallelujah! Great presentation!
Thank you. Blender often brings tears to my eyes too… but for other reasons. Bake is a very powerful node for sure and a much needed capability
Man Blender is amazing. Developers and people that donate make this possible thanks so much

Thank you! It's so great to read a response like this. I love making these videos so there's plenty more to come...
I feel like I need to subscribe again purely for the polish in the presentation of this video, it's like the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, except for Blender... Fantastic work as usual!
Given that Douglas Adams is the standard by which I judge everything …. Thank you

the production quality of this is off the charts. Of course I liked and subbed.
brilliant animation, good humor without going over the top. I really really liked this.
Love the dry humor mixed in with the info 😂
The Index switch looks very powerful!
It does! Lots of exciting possibilities
Thanks, I really like that index switch node!
Holy camoly! What a presentation, animation an informative content! And the humor :D :D
What a cool way to Animate Geo nodes! Great vid!

Thanks Grob! (… though I’m slightly suspicious that you might be my mum)
Amazing animations and editing...
Thank you for making this.
Production quality is mmmmoooaah
Thank you for that engaging and insightful presentation.
Thank you!
The editing goes so hard
Enjoyed every second of this tutorial!
Thank you. I enjoyed every word of this comment!
Loved your explanation, thanks a lot for this.
This made feel like I was living in the future...
This is a message from the future. You are!
the index switch is wonderful!
Amazing animations, editing, and narrative... so creative! 😂 New sub!👍
God bless u and your family always 🙏
Thank you *_*
Your channel is extremely underrated.
Fantastic presentation!
Just discovered your channel. Loving it!
Thanks. I love getting found.
The animations are eye candy, it’s so good
as someone who can't keep track of all the new nodes coming out, i want to thank you for this video :)
Incredible presentation!
Thank you!
Very funny and informative. Great video. Naturally I subscribed.
Thank you!
thanks for the summary
How did you do that? I mean those animations? So clean.. How much work and time did you put into this video? Instant sub! Loved it.
Amazing, much appreciated the effort that was put into making this.
Thank you!
This video is built different. :3
Love this video, thank you!
lovely presentation!
Amazing presentation
Very cool infographic style❤❤❤
Amazing Video quality! Very well summarized and extremely good Animations!
Thank you!
thank you for making this
That Phill Collins joke was funnier than it has any right to be!

I just discover this ytbe channel i really love it
aside the great content, smooth animations etc....I've got to say that you've got some comedy gold in there!
Great editing keep it up 👏
So well presented!
Wow very informative and A++ presentation
more nodes videos please, very interesting 😊
you deserved the subscription
Like this style of videos, plenty of irony,.Despite all those new node we still have no end frame node to automate looping setups.
Thank you. The node world moves fast, so there’s always a batch of new “new nodes” just around the corner
Awesome video! The nodes animation is very cool.
Delightful
loved the video and the channel :)
Super high quality vid. Great explanations, thanks
Awesome tutorial! I appreciate the time put into the animations gj gj
The comedy as well
awesome editing. really enjoyed that.
More of this. Please.
Wow this was really great. Thank you!

Commenting because this great!
Replying because you’re great!
Hahah truly well done and animated - are you related super voice !
Ha. Thank you!
@@harryblendslol my previous text made no sense - you have a fun voice - you are related to the tru facts guy here in UA-cam ?
Any details on how you animated the nodes? I like your style
Very cool
Just because I don’t understand 90% of what you’re saying doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy 100% of your videos
What the ..... You read me.
I'll have to set my alarm clock to 3:33 am and see if I can stare back at the lady.
Careful, if she sees you seeing her it triples your render times
@@harryblends 😱
I love your videos very much. How do you make your videos? For example, are the movements of data lines all made using blender?
Thank you! The motion of the nodes/noodles is all captured in the geometry node editor. I use a lot of old school animation techniques to make them move in a distinct way. I think there’s still some refining to do (the effect and the pipeline) but I’m really happy with the results so far

I'm excited for 4.1 to leave alpha so the geometry nodes team can focus their attention on implementing the Phil Collins node in 4.2
Yes. But they need to finish the drum solo node first.
Thanks. My only problem with nodes rn is that stuff changes so fast it´s hard to find good basic tutorials on it. lol
The node world sure moves fast!

Phil Collins node 😆
amazing keep it up!!! watch blender add 4 new nodes next month...lol
btw...is the index switch gonna replace the old switch or is it just a new node?
Ha. Thank you. Fingers crossed... though I'll just do another video. I think the old switch is staying put for the time being. But can see it being replaced in time
Wow, how did you achieve the animations to showcase the nodes?
It’s all captured in the node editor with basic animation principles applied in the edit. It’s as satisfying to make as it is to watch

do you know if they'll add geo nodes gizmos in 4.1?
I don’t know but I’ve been following it and it looks like a really powerful thing!
There's a woman in my wall? That explains it.
The fill curve node always align world Z....i think this "bug" still not fixed......
Well bake is mainly for particle simulation and not so much about therapy
What if you use particle simulation as a form of therapy?
the bake node is the best one, hope it will fix the unreliability of the spreadsheet, i wish there was a button, that baked all the intermediate values, onto RAM, so when you rewind the timeline, you know the parameters you debug on the spreadsheet are reliable, the bake to disk, i don't get it, you're not saving complex geometry on disk its not houdini.
I think the bake node is the most necessary or fundamental, for sure. It’s a functional tier shift. Though I’m very happy about the index switch too.
