An animated guide to the Random Value geometry node in Blender
A brief guide to the Random Value geometry node in Blender - how it works and a few of its most common uses.
*A different version of this video was published earlier today. This version corrects an inaccuracy in the narration pointed out by a observant viewer. If you've already seen it, watch it again for the five new words.*
If I want something random in real life I ask my friend Elliot. But what about in Blender? How do I get my computer to serve me some random then? This how. And some.

This video teaches a method for sequencing geometry node simulations with the index switch in blender. The scene used is available for free on my gumroad so do go get it (but you better watch the video too because I'm going to feel really sad if you don't). This technique is a very neat way to organize complicated simulations. It allows you to design them in stages with unique position evaluati...

This video shows you how to animate an object with the simulation zone in blender 4.1. Create a rule based movement system that repeats within randomized but controlled criteria. It is the first part of a series where I create a scene where everything is animated with the simulation zone. We got float curves, we got map range nodes, we align euler to a vector and we got so much noodle animation...

    Great video. But begs the question, why have the lights not been converted to a Geometry Node yet by the Blender team? I cannot even from a tech point of view see why it would be an issue beyond a focus/wait for the new eevee engine.

    is there a way to get the stack to fit a specified length?

    • @harryblends
      @harryblends 16 днів тому

      For that you'd have to keep track of the length of the stack and stop adding items when the desired length is reached. I do something similar in this video ua-cam.com/video/_W05JD7Gy24/v-deo.html Making it an exact length would be challenging, but you could scale the final item to precisely match the distance.

    Thank You. How do you get your noodles to route the way you do, or is that the heavy Premier editing you mentined? Would it be possilbe to get your KB presses in the corners of your vids. I follow along and do you vids in Blender several times, and there are times when i get lots and have to watch a segment a ton to see what you actually did. So, please KB Shorts would be a lovely addition.

    • @harryblends
      @harryblends Місяць тому

      I herd my noodles with editing. It’s more of a fast and pleasant representation of node tree construction than an accurate one. I’ve played around with different ways to make these videos and have concluded that it’s better to make a more condensed viewing experience which illustrates the ideas behind a node tree really clearly, than a documentary about how to add each node. I’m constantly reminding myself that the most powerful tool here is the pause button. And I make sure that I provide constant opportunities for someone following along to pause and get a full grasp of what’s just happened etc. KB shorts are something that’s tricky with my approach because they can get overwhelming. But I’ll look at adding them again. It’s been a while. Perhaps I’ll find a satisfying way of doing it. Maybe I should also do a node construction basics video. Which would work well as a companion to the rest
