Damn, that’s rocket science, man! You hear the solos during the song and you think they’re super cool, but then to watch them broken down note by note and you realize what a true miracle they are. I think the two main solos in this song are the best in rock history.

I've been playing 50 + years teaching, touring, pretty much all the above, your by far best on line instruction guy I've seen by far!! Not easy guitar lines and certainly not easy to figure out. I play freedom jazz dance line in my sleep. This is much more difficult and a lot of fun to learn bc of you!! Appreciate your skills!
Finally a video that gets this solo spot on. Joe never plays this solo the same way live. But it’s great I found a video on this solo that seems spot on.

He covers basic theory behind the solo and gives you the scale and key of the solo along with explanations. And most importantly the solo is freaking note for note flawless!!! Well done sir! /hat tip

Excellent lesson, yet again! And as is typical (I find), for most great rock solos, the guitar sounds harmonica-ish (Slow Angus down half speed on "Back in black" and a lot of the licks are harmonica based) A great solo to play on guitar is "Nobodys fault but mine", but the harmonica solo by Plant (Or possibly Page, he was once advertised as a harp virtuouso!)Whole lotta fun... Many thanks!
I really underestimated it until I decided to take on it and it really isn't easy for me. I can play it, but now I almost got it exactly like the original thanks to this video... its been so helpful and I learned quite a lot more that I expected just explroing this song. Thanks a lot mate. really an exceptional job transcribing that solo :)

Any chance you can post an addendum to this lesson, showing what you're doing with your right hand? As with lots of other tunes, the actual recording is MUCH faster than you'd think. When I learned your lesson, I follow your left hand exactly. I came up with my own hybrid thing for the right hand. I pull it off pretty well but still not consistent EVERY time. Really curious to know what your doing with your right hand.

I'm an intermediate player and I learned the first solo and got it down a year or so ago, but I could never suss out the 2nd solo and nobody really seemed to nail it correctly until found your video! So thanks so much! I am subscribing to your channel now! Oh...and below I was reading in the comments something about Joe or Brad possibly not playing that solo? What is this about?

I believe it was Dick Wagner who played the solos on the recording.
It would be the minor 3rd @ 1:13 but because of Perry's creative out look, he is playing A pentatonic minor over C Major which makes it a flatted 5th instead. its brilliantt shit.
What gauge strings are using?
based on a studio version, I think that the "coolest lick" is:
G Bb G C Bb E ... etc
instead of G Bb G C G E
Is it the first part of the solo in major pentatonic
All of these solos mix major and minor. The leads on this tune are SO good and so unique. It's world class guitar playing! cheers

I don't mean any offense to Joe Perry or Brad Whitford, but those guys wish this solo was them. This solo is indeed a brilliant rock guitar solo... and neither of those guys are "brilliant" players. Again... no offense to either of them.

This solo is played by Joe Perry his improvising and phrasing style is very similiar. No offense to you but shitting some other player without enough study and knowledge is bullshit.
Is it true these solos are not played by JP because he was so stoned he cannot even hold a guitar during the recording of the song?
