I agree. Even if you look at pics of Chilli in the early days of TLC her skin tone has remained consistent. Trying to explain her skin tone as a temporary tan is ridiculous.
I looked through some of her pics and she really isn’t that dark. In my opinion, she has a deeper brown with a caramelish tone which varies probably because of having a tan. I think the problem is fully black dark skin women look at Chili as representation. As you said in the beginning she reps for the browner girls but you also have to understand she is half Bengali. She shouldn’t be your representation.

Just because she sees her skin color as “caramel” doesn’t mean she is saying she is not black or rejecting being black as most are saying in the comments. If she sees her skin as caramel so be it. Light skin Keisha is not light skin to me but if she sees her self as such I really don’t care. I personally don’t want to be compared to food at all. Chocolate, caramel, a snack? I think people should have more of an issue with that than identifying yourself with a certain skin tone.

Caramel is Halle Bailey and Willow smith. Like the recent videos I’ve seen of them, their skin literally looks like caramel. Chile is just brown skin and gets dark skin when she tans. She’s brown sugar and that’s beautiful.
Chili is in her 50’s; it used to be a stigma with being darker, like people would say stuff to you like “you are pretty for a dark skin girl”; so maybe she still deals with that, it’s hard to unlearn that stuff that is put on you in childhood. If you didn’t experience it; it’s hard to understand the mindset that she has.
OK, maybe that's it. That's something she should work on though. At some point we all have to heal.

From someone who experienced the comments about my hair and skin complexion growing, but more so my hair; the best that you can do sometimes is not pass on that way of thinking to your children. Because you know the thoughts are bad, and you should not see yourself as less pretty because of skin complexion, but it’s ingrained from not only society, but the people you were around daily; it’s awful. I’m a TLC super fan since I was 15. But I’m gonna say this. She has a complexion issue and had them for years. She’s been this way. It’s sad on all levels.
Maybe she felt someway being the darkest out the group, but she has always been beautiful and has gotten much attention for her looks. I understand this only because my extended family is fair skinned and I am always the darkest one, unless my brother comes, so I stick out and look like, where she come from. I just wish she'd not be so defensive being called chocolate.

Wrong, being brown-skinned and dark-skinned isn't mutually exclusive. There are different shades of dark-skin. Chilli, Michelle Obama, and Gabrielle Union are not as dark as Lupita and Viola Davis but are still dark-skinned.

I've never seen Chilli with caramel skin in any photo. However if she doesn't want to be referred to as having chocolate skin, then by all means, let's honor her wishes...Either way, I always thought she was beautiful.

There is alot of lighting used in Hollywood and even in the youtube streets that makes people look lighter than they really are. Nonetheless, in all the TLC's video's with that expensive lighting Chilli always looked chocolate. She is delusional and just wants to be light but thinks she can pass as caramel.

I look at Kelly Rowland, Coco Jones, Teyana Taylor, Ryan Destiny, Lupita Nyongo, Normani, et al and they are absolutely STUNNING . I have met Lupita before, her skin is GLOWING. She had no makeup except for a lip gloss, she was STUNNING.
It's not surprising because I remember when she said she wanted Karrueche to play her in a biopic. To be fair her and Karrueche do have similar facial features but to prefer a Asian woman, that always stuck out to me. Also if you look at her childhood pictures it's very clear she's a beautiful chocolate girl. Regardless of a tan.

Chili always been the dark skinned one in the group which made her even more special but she wants to be light/Carmel like tboz and left eye.
What made her special was her skin tone and hair. She is brown skin, but I agree she may have felt a way being the darkest one in the group. Maybe she felt insecure about it, but I always thought she was beautiful.
