    10:58 Annnnnd now this becomes the most important comment to pin. Julia and I are together, I see Jude every single day. I meant that I WATCH him once a week. Julia is home 2 days with him and my mother-in-law takes him 2 days. I usually have him on Mondays or Fridays. I was trying to put a positive spin on watching my son, thus, "I GET to be with him..." I see now that the wording would totally lead you to believe Julia and I are divorced. We aren't! Happier than ever! Sorry for the confusion!

    fun fact: the Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, and Frozone theme songs were written the morning they were due, and were used exactly as written, no changes!

    Something I've been thinking about a lot since I saw Edna in Incredibles 2 is that perhaps her hatred of capes might be a little more personal than I had thought. After all, its made pretty clear in the first movie that SHE designed a massive chunk of the designs of the super heroes, so there is a good chance that a few of their cape related deaths might have weighed heavily on her conscience. Perhaps she feels personally responsible for what happened to them? After all, she remembers the exact name, time, and cause of the death for each of the accidents, almost as if she's been repeating them to herself to make sure she never forgets.
    Maybe it explains why she gets so passionately angry at the prospect of capes, because she's terrified she might cause someone else to die.

      And it would also impact Edna's pride. She is a master designer, but all of the heroes she gave costumes to were felled by the cape. It would sting to know that these heroes she knew were felled by the cape she inserted into the design.

    I'd like to point out an additional win - Why did Evelyn's scheme fail? A moment of hesitation.
    Evelyn had the complete control of numerous heroes. By all rights, the only thing that would stop her would be an equal number of other supers.
    But yet the reason her scheme crumbled was simply because for one brief moment, a baby started floating toward her screen, and she was so bewildered that she didn't think fast enough to order the baby to be discarded. And that baby threw a spanner in the works, removing Helen's goggles and giving her a brief window to free the others.
    Her plan was executed perfectly. A random moment of confused hesitation cost her everything. Awesome.

    I kinda think Bob is so angry when talking about the train scene is that his train scene saved countless lives, yet he had a lawsuit on his hands. And when Helen gets similar results, she still does it cleaner, proving Bob is too messy, and driving home how he should wait to super-hero it up.

      Saferoom, not cellar. I suspected the sister ever since I heard Winston HAD a sister. Winston in all the trailers looks like "oh sure, I'm gonna be the bad guy" but very few of the trailers show Evelyn. My thought process was something like "so this guy, looks like a bad guy but too obvious, supposedly has a sister but she doesn't really have a role in the trailers? Yeah, it's probably her."
      And Cinemasins had a good point. PUT THE SUPER PHONES *IN* THE SAFEROOM!

      Nah, that's an actual sensible response. Having a decent sense of self-preservation over grandstanding comic book heroics doesn't make you obviously evil in my book. Though it does show her different attitude, you're right in that.

    • @Metroid22540
      @Metroid22540 5 років тому +135

      Well... she's right.
      It was an avoidable death (or rather they'd have been MUCH safer) had they had any sense of self-preservation and had locked themselves in the saferoom (and put communication devices in the saferoom) rather than going for comic-book heroics.
      Literally, reality ensued there, the bad guys aren't going to wait around and let the heroes show up.
      Which to me kinda gave Evelyn a decent motivation for her actions.
      She's still angry, she's still wounded by it.
      I think it's less "I hate super-people" (although that's still there for sure) but more "I hate the sloth, lethargic mindset that came out of there being super-people - which no doubt has led to several unnecessary deaths and people putting more faith in supers saving their skins instead of preserving their own skin."
      She wanted people to fend for themselves if they can. If it's out of their depth, yeah, let the supers handle the situation if they're around, but don't expect them to.

    The scene with Bob trying to push down his feelings is a heart wrenching mood. I've felt that before when my girlfriend got to do the school musical and I didn't pass the audition, I was so happy for them but every time it was brought up I just felt even more sorry for myself that I couldn't do it and it took everything I had to go watch the final product in the end, especially when this fun thing only they got to do took them away from me for a while and I didn't get to see them after school, just like how Helen was taken away from home. Every thought and compliment I gave them nailed in how alone and left out I felt. I get it, it's not misogyny its just normal human emotions.

    Lee, my guy, let me just say (even if you dont end up reading this I just wanna get it out there) that Im soooooo beyond thankful for you and this channel, man. When I first came across CinemaWins, it was at a point in time I was getting really burned out on all the negativity that gets centered around films and the filmmaking process, and I was so completely irritated that everyone with any kind of opinion always tends to nitpick, that most reviewers "two cents" were so cynical or far too critical while leaving out all the things there genuinely was to like about them. Even if the movies were flawed beyond belief, seeing the good so often ignored just really got to me. So needless to say I was INSTANTLY hooked on my first EGA video. Hearing someone celebrate all the good things about films, the little things and the subtle details that go into making movies that a lot of people dont always see and appreciate, like the sound design, the lighting, the cinematography, the deeper themes below the surface themes, ect ect. I appreciate you always working so hard on these videos and doing such good research, showing the pros along with weighing the cons as well, and being as objective as possible while still recognizing your own bias and still managing to be so positive no matter how critical you do get.
    & Seeing this channel grow from an affectionate parody/reversal of CinemaSins into what it is now, a celebration of cinema and all these amazing creators creating amazing creations, it's been so rewarding. And even better to be along for the ride, hearing about you becoming a dad and all the little family anecdotes you throw into your videos about Julia, and now Jude as well. It really makes me (and others as well Im sure) feel like family as well and i feel blessed to be a part of it all.

    • @QuantumWaltz
      @QuantumWaltz 4 роки тому +1

      @@DraconicDuelist OK, this is a _way_ late response, sorry about that, but you have a cool point. I had to really sit and think about it for a while. Frankly, the point of the Portal is that it's not actually... matter? It seems to be a kind of antimatter which creates an impermanent void that entangles two concrete points in spacetime. Essentially, it's not warping _space,_ it's folding _time_ in on itself to _warp space,_ as the Theory of Relativity demonstrates that time and space are irrevocably intertwined, and if space is a fabric, then it follows that time likely is as well.
      That was a lot of build-up for me to say a Portal is in essentia, nothing. The part that does the Portal thing is never the part you interact with when passing through the Portal. I posit this: momentum based on a moving Portal is actually based on the surface the Portal is placed upon. If the entry point is moving, then it's like the Wild West Window where you won't be moving at the far end unless otherwise acted upon by an outside force. If the _exit_ point is moving, then you'll be moving as much as that surface would move you (because you had to expend energy to move through a stationary Portal, you already have forward momentum.) If BOTH sides were moving and you expended no energy, you would be stationary and the Portal would move around you. Using the Wild West Window analogy, if you were somehow completely stationary when you moved through the entry Portal, and the exit Portal were falling forward, the exit Portal would just catch back up to you and shove you back out the way you came.
      Don't get caught between two Wild West Window Portals, or you will go squish between the floors the Portal halves are falling to, likely with the force exerted by double gravity if both Portal surfaces attain terminal velocity.

    With the accuracy of all of the kids, I think not enough people give credit to Violet and Dash. I'm not a parent, but I know what it's like to be in Violet's shoes and I work as a camp counselor for a different group of Dash aged boys every week during summers. Obviously he's fast because it's impossible to keep a 10-year-old boy entertained most of the time, but his excitement and willingness to go along when it matters paired with his exasperation when he's not doing something fun and teasing his sister and kind of everyone around him absolutely nails it. Not to mention the other little nuances about boys his age that I can't even describe. Violet is just getting to the age where she understands the world on a more selfless level but is still frustrated when it messes with her. Her dad messed up pretty bad and superheroes DID possibly ruin her chances with a boy she likes, but she also understands that her dad is a person who loves her and only wants what's best for her, so she forgives him quickly and realizes that staying back and protecting people, and especially her family, IS super helpful. Everything about this movie and the original is magnificent and are what makes the Incredibles movies my favorite Pixar movies and some of my favorite movies overall.

    Evelyn is a wonderful villain. I stand by that. It’s kind of heartbreaking that, from what I recall, she and Helen bonded over an inferiority complex. But while Helen never forgets the strength of family values, Evelyn considers everyone, even her own family, expendable in a bid to prove her point. The promotion of family values in a contemporary atmosphere of increasing cynicism - that is brave. And necessary. Therefore it’s vital that, unlike the nihilist Bonds and Batmen of the noughties, great though they were, the ending is what it is. Bravo Brad Bird.

    • @Whatlander
      @Whatlander Рік тому +13

      Evelyn's also coming from a place of trauma, specifically involving her own family choosing a superhero fixation over basic self-defense (and failing to protect her and her brother.) I don't think Evelyn is rejecting "family values" so much as her family was broken through her father's complacency. Her brother coping by doubling down on loving superheroes would have felt like a betrayal to her. She feels under-valued by her own family to the point of believing they never cared about her. Evelyn is _trying_ to promote family values, or her own concept of it. Just like villains in real life!

    One of my favorite dynamics in this film is that between Void and Elastigirl, more specifically their introduction. In the first film Helen seemed to have come to terms with her new life of staying under the radar while being the strong foundation of her family. But her introduction to Void gave her a living reminder of part of what she had left behind, of what she had had to give up. Elastigirl had been more than a "Superhero", she was a HERO to women all over the world. She didn't just wear the suit and show up for photo ops, she was an A-Lister easily on Parr ( intentional pun, I regret nothing ) with the likes of Mr Incredible. She knew this, and knew the kind of additional good she could do in that position. Giving up that life meant giving up being a hero to all of those young women who could be great on their own but could soar even higher if they saw someone like them being a leading force in their field, especially one that might so easily be attributed to being a "boys club" without someone like her.

    Another win: the split-second during Helen's race through the tv studio where some random employee points out which way to go. I just really like that tiny moment of realism.
    I went into this movie with low expectations for the whole, "man being parent?!?!?!" sub-plot, but it honestly plays out as a natural extension of Bob's lack of self-identity outside of being Mr. Incredible. It felt less like him struggling to be an at-home dad and more like him panicking the second he's out of his element and no longer knows what to do when challenged as regular Bob. It was a nice follow-through of him appreciating his family more _and_ learning how to be happy as himself on a day-to-day level.

    If Incredibles 2 is so great, then why isn’t there an Incredibles 2 2?

      You mean an Incredibles 3?! Well, I am thinking that there needs to be an animated TV series following where the sequel left off.

    I really liked this movie, though I wish it was set a bit more differently than the first. Evelyn's plan was similar to Syndrome's, just a little more complex and thought out. Also one part confused me. It was when Helen acted as if Screenslaver was an old enemy rather than a new one, which made me think it was gonna be her getting revenge or trying to settle an old score rather than what we have. I do absolutely love the animation and action. The way Helen used her bike had my jaw on the floor, she truly is creative(Also how did he not win her checking to make sure the chair she threw out the window landed safely on the roof? COME ON!). I wish they went easy on the flashing lights bit, not something you want to stare at for long.

    I think the voice actors are incredible in this movie. The "GET OUTTA HERE" at 2:12 from her is POWERFUL. You can hear the anger in her voice about the kids not following her directions, and the genuine fear that her children are in danger
