I don't know if this was pointed out, but one thing I love about Megamind's character is that he mispronounces certain words. This indicates that he learned these words via reading books rather than through conversations with people, which makes perfect sense for Megamind with his book smarts and loner status growing up.
@@khaledzaki11 that's what happens when u learn a word from a book instead of through conversation untill like a year ago I thought it was pronounced ELecTRon
I'd add another win: genuine consequence when Roxanne first learns the truth. She doesn't magically get over it because he's come clean or learned his lesson. Megamind accepts that outcome and walks away; he HAS grown as a person, enough to realize he's not owed anything. A wonderful contrast to Titan's entire "nice guy™" mentality of expecting instant adoration without even caring about Roxanne as a person. Like, seriously, Megamind stole an entire city (and Bernard), but when the woman he likes says "no," he respects it and leaves her be.
As someone who’s dealt with a Nice Guy…I’d say the representative of Hal is scarily accurate. I can’t IMAGINE if the guy I knew had ACTUAL power over me.
I dated a Hal I still dread the possibility of running into them like 15 years later. What a creep. Your point about Megamind respecting a No when he holds all the cards is great. It leaves you being like dude you are a villain but you have respect that a moral code and limits. Those things alone don't make you good but they do make you human and possibly redeemable. Titan has no limits and that makes him bad.
@@adarcus4053 It also reinforces the fact that Megamind only ended up in a life of villainy because by happenstance of landing in a prison, he was set on course to be a self-fulfilling prophecy, cast as a bad guy as a child by everyone around him to the point that he genuinely saw no way to succeed in life other than being the best at being bad. And once again, what had he done to be in that prison in the first place? Nothing, but be in the wrong place at the wrong time. And yet, as you said, he demonstrates just how much capacity he's always had for being good, something that he never lost. What I'm saying is that this film says a *lot* about racism, the incarceral system and the school to prison pipeline without even trying.
Missed win: In the rain scene, Megamind tells Roxanne that he can explain what happened and, at the same time, one of the posters from before appears in the background, saying "No, you can't"
also the foreshadowing of MetroMan being MegaMind with saving Roxanne; he has his head down and his fist forward like he punched the bus, but it's cut in half because MegaMind doesn't have the durability or strength to take that bus head on!
@@boa_firebrand he didn't actually "punched" it, in the moment that the bus was turned apart you can see that space behind Roxanne and that was no one there yet... He probably turned that apart with Metroman "heat vision" (probably some fire gun that he used to replicate it), as you can see the bus was with fire around his midle cutted parts... Just then we can see Megamind's Metroman there, he probably just landed and got that badass superhero pose, but he didn't destroyed the bus with his "fist", that was while he was still flying.
@@petrowzz that is just a more verbose and less grammatical way of saying what I said except he clearly is making it look and note I said LOOK like he punched it away
@@boa_firebrand oh yeah, I thought you meant that it was Megamind because of that eletric saw glove he had on his fist after he turned back to his form like he used that to cut the bus
I swear Megamind is the most passive aggressive villain ever. I mean, he is the kind of guy that would hold the whole world hostage given only the chance, but at the same time will stop at every traffic light and pay his taxes.
13:11 Yes, Megamind did cost more than Despicable Me 1, but the quality of the animation and attention to detail was one of the best at that time. Megamind still looks beautiful to this day, and Minion is one of the most impressive animated movie characters when it comes to beautiful animations. The animation/movement of Minion's head is always independent from his body, and the animation in general is on par with some of the most expensive animated movies from that era.
@@cyberwarrior5939 Both movies have their charms. Personally, I like the first two Despicable Me films (the other films are just cash grabs) but I agree that this was the better-made movie.
I do think that Megamind has become more beloved to a caring audience because it's one movie. Despicable Me is at, what, five movies in their universe now? Five or six. It's kind of become too much. Megamind, however, leaves us wanting more. People have demanded a sequel for years.
the whole "you're a villain, just not a super one" 'what's the difference?' *the beats of welcome to the jungle building up* " P R E S E N T A T I O N " best movie moment ever change my mind
okay but Megamind has a point there. like how is the fucking *sun* warming up when its already a ball of fire that could melt anything on earth instantly lmfao
Missed win: Metro Man's new passion is music BECAUSE it's the one thing his powers can't help him with, therefore it's the one thing he actually has to work at to get better at.
@@MarzoAlive Yet Roxanne throws his Grammy lmao. Feels weird lmao. But hey It took Megamind Months or maybe years to be the top since Metro Man literally has a beard and it's aging too. Guy probably takes months or years non stop to learn music. Like people always say, the devil is in the details.
Another interesting thing about Megamind and Metroman's dynamic is just how easily Megamind recreated his powers. They really were just playing around lol.
That was really cool too, definitely (I mean everything is really cool), Metroman's time acceleration powers letting him take his sweet time to work through a midlife crisis of "Do I really want to keep doing this when I'm as good as anyone can be already?" and then Megamind using his homeworld's technological understanding and principles to recreate Metroman's power through the use of DNA to create Titan but also pure tech itself to believably imitate Metroman himself, visuals and all. And as CinemaWins said, how Megamind knows Metroman so well he could imitate the diction and word choice with minimal effort, though not enough to avert saying Matrocity instead of Metro-City.
what i like the most is how metroman talks to megamind like he knows who he is. they're rivals, joker and batman type of relationship. so if they were on the same level of no longer being in this rivalry, they really know each other enough to be everyday friends since they've been at this for such a long time
Something that doesn’t get talked about enough is how they make Metro Man and Titan FEEL powerful with the animations and sound effects. When Titan jumps off the top of the building around 6:55 you can see the glass on the top of the building shatter as he pushes off with his legs.
i think that moment is also a really cool demonstration that he doesn't have the temperament to be a hero, because he's so self centered that he doesn't stop to think about the effect he might have on people around him. you could attribute that to his inexperience, but causing so much property damage without even thinking about it is such an evocative character moment for him
also, the whole "nice guy" thing with Hal was waay ahead of it's time. I mean, I'm sure guys like that have been around for forever, but it's only been pretty recently on the internet that they've been given a more specific label and stuff. his character is just so interesting to me, and a perfect subversion of the whole "oh this poor nerdy dude isn't getting the girl even tho he's super nice and the only reason she's not attracted to him is because he's not hot boohoo" thing
Even that second line could be foreshadowing, Metro Man is so fast he thinks on a problem for like a week in the space of a few seconds. If he actually cared about being a hero, he could have took the time to look up that persons name, wouldn't be hard at all.
Also John Green after moving to a new town and changing his name to Bernard, bc that dead and emotionless personality is definitely what you'd see in a man who sold his soul for the power to cause great pain via writing
10:35 I also love how his line, "my death was... greatly exaggerated" is a double entendre here. It's a subtle clue that it's Megamind, not Metro Man, due to the butchering of the phrase, but it's also correct in that Metro Man's "death" was literally greatly exaggerated theater. It's such good writing I love it.
@@plumenommershpadoinkle7575 I've heard "Grossly exaggerated" before, but it means the same thing and I'm not sure it's common enough that saying "greatly" instead would be considered butchering the phrase
@@plumenommershpadoinkle7575 "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated" BUT it gets even better...it's a quote falsely attributed to Mark Twain. He never actually said it (and he also has several famous quotes about being honest) so Megamind is misremembering a quote misattributed to a person who was really big on not lying.
I already responded to another response, but I extra love the fact that he's butchering a quote that was never real to begin with. The story about Mark Twain writing to a newspaper and saying it isn't true.
Me too!!!! I hadn't even noticed that before this video but it's such a neat little detail that only makes the movie better for anyone who notices it!!
I love how MetroMan, Megamind and Roxxane all have the chemistry where they are almost friends at this point. Like Mega and Metro do that back and forth dialogue thing cause it's fun and they both know he's gonna stop megamind and the game starts over
Also another awesome scene: When Roxanne is walking away from Megamind right after she learned that he was not Hal, he says the line “I can explain” well if you look at the wall behind him one of his posters is there, saying “no you can’t.” I think that was nice touch to the movie!
It’s so dumb that Megamind was barely known until the memes yet everyone knew despicable me They both have the same villain to hero concept They both have minions They both faced off another villain But the thing is, gru didn’t even feel evil, he just felt like a grumpy guy who’s wife died and might litter on your yard Megamind is an actual villain that has humour and charm Megamind actually transitions from a villain to an antihero to a hero Gru just becomes a hero because they took the kids and he got vectored But gru doesn’t have *PRESENTASHAWN*
Just noticed the detail at 6:13, where Roxanne's shifting her grasp on Hal constantly. Like she keeps going back and forth between "get away get away get away" and "shit shit shit I will literally fall to my death if I get away right now" and can't seem to choose which one to act on
I’m actually blown away they added a single pixel frame of MetroMan using his superspeed, that is actually just mindblowing to think that they planned that from the start
@@Avatarbee it is a frame from the moive that only lasts a second like when you open up chrome and it has somthing of for a second then it fully loads so if you blink you will miss it so in this case it's if you blink or not focused enough you won't see metroman behind megamind in the start
There's so many fun small details in this movie. Some of the ones not mentioned here that I noticed: - When Megamind goes to school for the first time you see him give a little smile; and then when he's leaving school and Metroman flies away with the schoolhouse, you see his face drop as he's being carted back to prison, losing his school privileges. He really wanted to fit in and that was the first moment he felt truly rejected. - His binkie is consistently used as part of his inventions; the tricycle laser, the popcorn laser, the dodgeball force field, even the dehydration gun... - After Roxanne is kidnapped and it cuts to Hal and the news van, behind the van you can see some people on the ground and some tipped objects, implying the balloon guy wasn't the only victim from the invisible car lmao - When Metroman is heading to the observatory, you can SEE the fake observatory in the background on the right for a few moments! - When Megamind is watching Roxanne's "city without a hero" broadcast, he looks out the window. In the distance you can see her and Hal and the news van at the base of the Metroman statue. - In Roxanne's inspirational speech about heroes, the first thing she mentions is bravery. When Hal is talking about the ninjas he totally fought, Megamind's first remark is "A brave one isn't he?" It comes across as sarcastic but in reality he's being genuine and already picturing what a "good fit" Hal is for the hero transformation. - In Hal's apartment, Megamind's cape collar gets displaced by the TV set because the apartment is just too small for it. - Metroman's love of music doesn't come from nowhere; in the opening school montage, he plays guitar in front of the class. - And last but not least, you can see the disguise watch on Metroman's wrist when he "returns," if you didn't just guess the twist, then it was possible to figure it out if you watched closely enough! This movie is incredibly solid and just plain old fun, the character chemistry is great, the continuity is nearly flawless, the messages and ideas presented are great food for thought, ugh. It's a shame more people don't like this movie- though it seems to be making a resurgence recently. The only complaint I have is, what were Megamind and Metroman's names BEFORE they started their hero/villain arcs? Like, they didn't pick those names until their battles became regular occurrences in their adulthood; sooo what did the prisoners name Megamind as a baby? What name did Metroman's parents give him?
I plan on putting out a video soon, but Megamind's prison name was probably "Mega Mind" and Metro Man was probably "Wayne Scott" (from the original script, and in the credits you can see his parents were "Scott". It's not too much of a stretch to say that he might still have the Wayne Scott name). Megamind likely didn't get a genuine name because he was in prison... He got a prison nickname. It's not like anyone adopted him, with a little bit of evidence for that in the movie and the comics.
Can we also acknowledge how they were already setting up the chemistry between Roxanne and Megamind in the first couple of scenes? It never felt like it was just thrown at you, they already subconsciously liked each other from the first scenes, having playful and teasing banter.
That's not how it necessarily works though, playful teasing banter does not automatically mean attraction, I mean Megamind and Metro man also where playful and teasing at the start
@@NicaremE I think it implies that they have generally positive relationship if not obviously friends (they know each other for so long and does it so much that they kinda starting to know each other and became friends), it just basically show that roxxane and mega mind romantic relationship didn’t come out of nowhere
Neat detail: Titan’s suit is red, the opposite of Megamind’s blue, while Metro man’s is pure white and contrasted with Megamind’s black. The costumes themselves show the difference of the rivalries.
Oh! Oh! This is smart! Metroman vs Megamind is the design of their costume! It's something that you wear, something you can take off. While vs Titan, the red of his costume is a contrast of Megamind's skin color. You know, like his being. Metroman and Megamind's rivalry was born of labels/status that were put upon them, like clothes; while with Titan, it's born of personal motive (also Titan chose to be a villain, so on his side it still sorta count as a label 🥺👍🏼🌟 . Sidenote : Megamind picked the colour red for Titan... When he still believed that he's bad just because he should be since everyone thought so. He created a "hero" label (red) that goes against his being (blue)... Hold on, I think I might wanna cry here...
@@maxfieldjoyner5244 On my first watch, I was like "hehe, he wanna be like Metroman", but I thought it's just a one off thing. These all might be planned, since they planned Roxanne's clothing change 👀👌🏼🌟
You missed one. When minion was disguised as Megamind when he tried to free Roxanne he first tried to pull the metal, Megamind wouldn't try that as he would know he was too weak. But minion has the robot body and is far stronger and tried that first. You can even hear the rachet mechanism if you listen close when he pulls on it.
I rewatched this scene a lot of times and couldn't understand from what exact moment Minion disguised as a Megamind... Thank you from finally clarifying it to me
And when "Metroman" makes that entrance splitting the bus in half, it pans round to his face before he says that quip about public transport. You can see his green eyes. Green for Megamind.
I always loved the relationship between Megamind and Metro Man most. Sure, Metro Man was kind of an ass as a kid; show-off, arrogant, snobbish, but as adults they gain this relationship based on a mutual respect for showmanship and their own personal roles in the hero/villain dynamic. And I get the feeling that Metro Man always knew (and had faith) that Megamind would be an amazing hero. He probably knew that Megamind never intended any actual harm to the citizens of Metropolis, otherwise he never would have quite being a hero. And Megamind's love for their hero/villain dynamic was adorable. Like an actor who os genuinely and completely in love with what he does.
Metro Man straight up acknowledges that he always knew Megamind would make a great hero. In the scene where they reveal the Megamind statue, Metro Man goes "Way to go little buddy, I knew you had it in you"
I saw it as Metro Man finally having grown up and realized that he had partial culpability in what became of the two of them - that Metro Man helped do to Megamind what Metro Man feels the city did to him. Metro Man becoming Megamind's quiet supporter and giving Megamind the space and freedom to figure out and choose his own identity is a sign that this very egocentric bully has grown up and realized the error of his ways. He's still very selfish and flawed in the ways he goes about it, but then, the whole point of his stance is that he's realized he neither wants nor is truly suited to being the city's hero, and the way he goes about his "retirement" just proves that.
One of the key differences between Megamind and Titan was the fact that one of them was doing it just because he was playing his role, and the other was doing it out of purely malicious intent. Megamind simply grew up believing he had to be the villain, and so he had fun with it. He messed around, came up with schemes to defeat his rival, and when one finally worked he couldn't actually believe it because why would it have worked? None of his plans worked in the past. And despite all the dangerous traps he shows Roxanne, she was never afraid of them because she knew he wouldn't actually hurt her. Meanwhile, Titan comes in and kidnaps Roxanne, and she's immediately terrified. This was someone new, an unknown, and it was scary for her. Then she finds out it was someone she considered to be a friend, or at least an acquaintance, and he was acting insane. Titan was genuinly terrifying to her because she could tell that if he didn't get his way, her life would be in danger. This is why Titan was the villain, he was the one with horrible intentions, and Megamind was the super villain, as super villains are known to be flashy, they're known for getting caught and then escaping, elaborate schemes that don't really go anywhere in the long run, etc. They did such an amazing job of portraying this as well. Megamind is truly a cinematic masterpiece.
One other detail I love: Before Megamind hits Tighten with the copper trap, he tells his robots to “initiate the failsafe.” He only intended to use the weapon that would (theoretically) actually hurt Tighten if things went terribly wrong. Megamind was legitimately only trying to fight Tighten/Metroman for the fun of it.
Its underrated because it came closely after how to train your dragon. Sad, because they are both really good movies, but megamind was crushed under the How to Train Your Dragon Series and Despicable Me.
How to Train Your Dragon is still fantastic, though. Megamind's probably better in almost every way but damn if I don't love cute dragons fuckin' shit up.
@@oweirevan2061 It's seems this has happened a lot, a movie falling by the wayside because it had to compete with something that got huge. It happened with Treasure Planet, which had to compete with Harry Potter, and the one that got all the attention can be very good too (like How to Train Your Dragon) so it's really just unfortunate. All we can do is love them anyway even if they didn't get as much attention.
It’s because Cinemawins is for genuinely reviewing a movie and Cinemasins is a comedy channel. Nothing wrong with that, but they’ve made it clear several times that the majority of sins are jokes and not actually negatives, so if you take them seriously then they’re going to sound dumb. It’s why things like logos or not having a lap dance are sins, they’re just jokes lol
10:11 I just noticed that in that scene the vehicle is clearly cut in half by a laser, yet a second later Megamind (disguised as Metro Man) is stood as if he just punched threw it. Megamind couldn’t actually punch through the vehicle, so he cut it in half with a gadget before quickly posing as if he punched it.... Genius.
At the same time, while Metroman probably has laser eyes, Megamind is never seen with a gadget that does the same thing. No laser goggles. So yeah, he's left with wrist lasers or something to most closely replicate the effect.
One of my favorite tiny details is that Megamind says "Time out!" repeatedly at Titan during their first fight, probably because whenever Megamind said that to Metroman he would actually stop or at least slow down as it was just a show for them. So, when things got real with Titan, he just subconsciously tried the "failsafe" he had with Metroman, and only got out the real failsafe when it became serious.
Little continuity thing, megaminds watch Sometimes it does the voice and sometimes it doesn’t. (For instance, he can mimic the warden’s voice but not Bernard’s). I figured out why. When he asks the warden to check the time, a little [rec] appears, recording his voice, before doing a body scan later on. When he scans bernard, he is in a panic and simply does a body scan, without recording the voice. Nice little detail
@cristal star here's a neat detail. While megamind is grabbing the diffuser gun (i forget its name) in the invisible car there's a "warming up" message left behind. Which is nice joke from the death ray plan
Three things I love about each hero/villain's costumes: Titan/Tighten's collar has little points to it that create a little scarlet "V" right in the center. Metroman's "M" is monochrome (so the same V-shape doesn't really stand out) and plain, adding to the idea that he's going through the motions of being a superhero but isn't actually that into it. Megamind's costumes are overtly menacing, but his logo is stylized into a lighting bolt and rounded off - arguably the "friendliest" logo of the three.
Some of my favorite details in the movie: 1. Megamind's love for high-collars. It's not just on all of his villain outfits, it's also on his Evil PJs, and he even turn up the collar of his prison uniform to create a similar look. Both of his parents are also seen wearing these kind of high-collars (although not as exaggerated), so it's both a villain design trope that he likes and a part of his original homeplanet's culture (maybe one of the few aspects of it he actually knows about). Which is also part of the Superman parallels, as it's often established that Superman's heroic outfit is inspired by Kryptonian design elements. 2. After being expelled from the Lil' Gifted School, Tiny Megamind is smiling widely due to the satisfaction of finally getting back at his bullies and feeling like he found his destiny - but as Tiny Metro Man picks up the school and flies away, Megamind's expression turns sad. Even at this stage he has doubts about his villain role and on some level he regret losing the opportunity the Lil' Gifted School would have given him. Also, if you pause at the right time, you can kinda read what's printed on all the newspaper in the title sequence, even the tiny print. 3. "You were right, Roxanne, I never should have left". Metro Man usually addresses Roxanne as 'Roxy'. Megamind is the one who calls her Roxanne. So this + the closeup on his green eyes communicates the idea that it's not just Megamind saying this 'in-character' as Metro Man, he is also speaking as himself, saying that he shouldn't have given up a few scenes before. 4. In the prison-break scene, Megamind hiding in his cell to scare the warden seems as just a way to establish him as a goofy, fun-loving villain - but he's also testing and practicing for his escape plan, which *depends* on him hiding well enough so that his cell seems empty 5. The visual symbolism when Roxanne is running away from the restaurant in the rain. All of the trash Megamind cleaned up by dehydrating it pops back into existence, just like all of Megamind's villainous actions rise up to the surface and come back to haunt him. 6. The use of "Mr. Blue Sky" is clearly because Megamind is blue. They even play the line "Mr. Blue, you did it right " on Megamind disguised as Bernard reading a book with his own (real) face on it, but then the rest of the verse - which is about "Mr. Night", who is a kind of an antagonist or danger to Mr. Blue Sky, approaching - is played over Hal finally getting actually kinda good with his powers. Because Hal is actually the biggest danger Megamind is gonna face. The similarities and the close release dates between 'Megamind' and 'Despicable Me' are a bit strange, and maybe there's a story behind that, but I highly doubt it's because they're both based on that same script. I actually found a copy of one of the earlier drafts of Megamind (then titled 'Master Mind' and supposed to be a live-action comedy targeted at adults) online, and most of the similarities between it and Despicable Me (outside of the basic fact that they're both about villains) were LATER additions. Like, the Brainbots and Minion didn't exist back then, Master Mind's henchmen were three human goons dressed as Einstein, Da Vinci and Plato. (imsdb.com/scripts/Megamind.html you can judge for yourself here. The only part where I can KINDA say there's a similarity to Despicable Me is that Master Mind is inspired to villainy by a desire to please his late father. Much like Gru wants to impress his mother) (Fun Fact, the Mr. Miyagi reference in the final movie is a nod to this script, where Master Mind's persona as Hal's mentor was actually Pat Morita - being inspired by a Karate Kid poster in Hal's room) Really, if the two movies didn't happen to come out the exact same year I dunno if anyone would have compared them. Like, they're both about *villains*, but very different types of villains. Megamind is indisputably a Comic-Book style Supervillain and Despicable Me is more... James Bond villain I guess? Megamind is very fixated on the Villain-Hero relationship, but the world of the first Despicable Me seems to be totally Hero-Less. I actually only saw Despicable Me back in 2010, and saw Megamind much, much later. But although I still have found memories of the first Despicable Me movie, Megamind had a much stronger effect on me and a very special place in my heart. I just love Megamind as a character and how delightfully he embodies everything I love about the supervillain aesthetic.
There’s also something about how Metro Man, the human looking attractive guy with charisma and physical capabilities being outright accepted with no hesitation, whereas megamind, the weird blue alien using new technology and with social awkwardness is labeled the villian.
And how Hal just TOTALLY slips under the radar of society until he goes on his rampage. And situations that actually DO happen in real life sometimes, where guys like Hal aren't even considered until it's too late!
i think there's also something to be said about how he had absolutely no say in ending up in that prison and growing up there :/ he was dealt such an awful hand and no one even gave him a single inch because of it
I love how they didn't just made Netroman an unlikable jerk so that we would instantly admire Megamind but instead made both of them likable so that we could understand the world view of both. Also I would love to see them fighting along side the other if they ever do a sequel
I didn't even notice the visual storytelling with Roxanne's clothes! I've got to watch this again with even more appreciation! (not that I didn't have any before)
Megamind was such a good movie I remember as a kid being a captivated by the idea of a villain protagonist who actually comes out on top and defeats the hero (or seemingly defeats him). its a profound movie and speaks on multiple issues. In the first act we get a taste of nature v.s. nurture. Megamind, the underdog anti hero is raised in a prison by convicted felons, this is an issue for our protagonist because our first sense of right and wrong comes from those who raise us and obviously these criminals aren’t going to have strong moral fiber like the “hero” metro man’s parents. Megamind is then bullied by other children at school and his self esteem drops so low that he believes that “being bad is the one thing I’m good at”. It may not seem like it but I believe Megamind suffers from severe depression, behind his witty humor and seemingly confident attitude, Megamind’s tale is crushingly dark, he believes he is defined by his rivalry with metro man who constantly defeats and embarrasses him. Once he kills metro man (which causes him extreme guilt) he feels lost and without purpose, realizing that his rivalry and his hatred was the only thing that gave meaning to his life. He then creates a new nemesis who turns evil causing Megamind even more guilt, believing himself to be at heart only capable of evil. On top of this he is outcast and shunned by all of society only further reinforcing his idea that he is “the baddest boy of them all” no one in the movie is seen ever reaching out to Megamind nobody once gives him the love and support he desperately needs aside from his faithful minion of course, it reminds me of the quote by mark twain > “But who prays for Satan? Who in eighteen centuries, has had the common humanity to pray for the one sinner that needed it most, our one fellow and brother who most needed a friend yet had not a single one, the one sinner among us all who had the highest and clearest right to every Christian's daily and nightly prayers, for the plain and unassailable reason that his was the first and greatest need, he being among sinners the supremest?” He is feared by all and he has come to accept that fear is the only for of respect which he deserves. He is so despised that when he makes an attempt to connect with someone he feels the need to disguise himself so that they are not automatically repulsed by him. This belief is reaffirmed by the fact that as soon as Roxanne discovers his true identity she too abandons him. Megamind is stuck in what is referred to as a self fulfilling prophecy, his actions towards others impact other’s beliefs about him which impact their actions towards him which reinforce his beliefs about himself which influence his actions towards others and so on. Megamind is seen as evil in part because he is so firmly stuck in the belief that that’s all he will ever be. in fact after he is defeated by Hal (who represents the vile incel community, further speaking on modern day issues), he discoveres that his old nemesis, metro man still lives. Metro man tells Megamind that he needs to be the hero but megamind is so firmly stuck in the belief that he can never be anything more than a villain that he instead decides to imprison himself, only stepping up to face Hal when he realizes that the woman he loves is in danger (cliche I know but this movie gets a pass) this is all well and good except Megamind’s confidence is still so low that he feels he must disguise himself as metro man in order to save the day, believing that this is the only way he will have the support of the people and be able to intimidate Hal. To Megamind’s horror Hal realizes his true identity and Megamind is forced to fight Hal as himself, overcoming his fear Megamind defeats hal by embracing who he is telling Hal “you’re a villain all right, just not a super one.” After this to his surprise Megamind is accepted by the people but more importantly he has come to be accepted by himself, fully completing his redemption arc. “Megamind” is a dark tale of emptiness, defeat, rejection, and redemption. Megamind teaches us that we are not defined by what others think of us and we always have a choice to be better no matter how dark things may seem. TL;DR: Megamind is a profound film about a man (or alien) who is severely depressed which drives him to do unspeakable things but he overcomes this in the end and redeems himself in the eyes of society, showing us that we are not defined by what others think of us and we always have a choice to be better. Btw this isn’t even a copypasta I spent like an hour typing it out I might even post it on r/copypasta for like 3 upvotes
Thick neck Man Ya same here..I think My dad used to gave me minifigs of megamind characters.,,But I don't know where I put them anymore...I feel soo old now..,It felt like it was YESTERDAY
I just realized that when metro man said to the man “sorry my friend” it was a callback to when he was first introduced when he said “I love you too random citizen”, idk it just feels like he was growing as a character and talking to h8m like a human and not just some random guy
One fun detail I noticed is that when megamind is decloaked he has a saw over one of his hands, and looking back at the scene where he cut the bus in half, he was leading with the same hand.
This was already mentioned in another comment, but the real MetroMan would have eye-lasered the bus; contrary, the actual scene shows “MetroMan” in a punching pose. Another really great detail.
Something interesting I found is that in the start of the movie when metroman is doing the speech for the City he questions " who I'd be without you? " and his expressions says that he is questioning himself about what all his life has been, I find it an interesting foreshadowing.
I feel like Megamind and Metro Man are just childhood friends that play like this and never intend to truly hurt each other. That's why Megamind was surprised to seeing Metro Man "die".
Right? Like imagine if, after everything, Lex Luthor hits Superman with a shoe-just a regular ass shoe-and it kills him. What do you even do with that? Lex would be too busy figuring out "why a shoe?!" to do any of his other schemes.
I also love the running gag of megamind mispronouncing everything because it actually feeds into his character, giving you this feeling that he's only ever read these words growing up and never really hearing others pronouncing them, feeding into his ostracization and isolation he experienced at a young age.
At the same time, catching himself mispronouncing one of the words while around Roxanne could be indicative of him growing up around the prisoners who probably had their own sort of prison talk but at the same time he learned how to properly pronounce those words through getting taught about it at school.
We failed to realize that Megamind could have given himself Metromans powers a long time ago but refused to cause he enjoyed fighting him he thought that if he made himself as strong as Metroman he would no longer have fun thinking of ways to destroy him cause he could just use his powers against him that's what I love about their dynamic so much they both thought it was a game until Metroman decided to choose who he wanted to be and not what the city wants him to be
Wow, I missed that. He wasn't there for the win, but for the play! But even though Megamind did want to win (like him vs Titan, which just to piss off), he didn't think he deserve win because he thinks he's the bad guy.
tbf if CinemaSins actually only kept sins in his video, it would be about a minute, and I'm serious, notice how he often points out things on screen and calls it a sin, so no matter it's shorter, because morally it would be shorter even if that calling-Megamind-worse-Despicable-me-asshole stretched the vid to an hour.
Not sure why a lot of people don't like this one, it's amongst Dreamwork's bests. From animation quality, a stellar cast, topping off with a really well put together narrative that both homages and satirizes the superhero/comic book tropes and cliches in a really fresh way. Never thought until seeing this that a giant blue headed alien/supervillain could be so complex and interesting. Definitely not perfect, but I'd highly recommend it to those who haven't seen it. Severely underappreciated. Pretty much Dreamwork's response to the Incredibles, but manages to have an identity of it's own.
That part where Titain throws the bus at Roxanne and she ducks before she's saved stands out to me personally. It shows that, while she plays the damsel in distress in Megamind and Metroman's game, that isn't how the animaters wanted her actual character to be. In any other movie, she would have fallen to the ground and curled up in a ball before the bus was lasered in half. That would make her look more helpless and insure she would have to dramatically look up from where she's laying on the ground to look at her hero. But instead they had her run as long as she could and when she realized she couldn't run she ducked. She knelt to the ground on one knee and covered her head. That way when "Metroman" had his big reveal, she could stand up and face him at eye level. I just liked that detail.
Yeah, she was able to face him as a peer in a way. She's the superheroine of the news networks meanwhile both Metroman at the start and Megamind at the end were superheroes of justice and public order. That makes them peers who stand on even ground with mutual respect and admiration :)
I think my favorite part of Megamind was how quickly they made you recognize how empty of a villain he was since had he no big plan behind what he wanted to do other than fight Metroman.
I just saw this movie for the first time (I can't believe it took me so long) and I gotta say, my favourite scene is the one in the rain where Roxanne is yelling at Megamind. He doesn't even say anything, but the slight change in his facial expression says it all. Amazing (I like this one better than Despicable Me)
It's also even better since he's much louder and snarkier, but in this very moment he actually gets his heart broken, and he legitemetly feels it. He knew what he was doing _to_ Roxanne was wrong (He was lying to her and was using another body to hang out with her) but it hurts since he has actually done effort _for_ her. He became a better person because of her but you also can't blame Roxanne that the person she fell in love with was entirely someone else, and that alone can make someone misjudge true intentions. Man that scene was a train wreck
What I remember, is that the "presentation!" has a super-cool translation to polish, it's different in a good way. Basically it goes like this: -you may be a villain, but not a super one! -whats the difference! -i have class! Boy that was great
HOW WAS THE MOVIE SO UNDERRATED BACK THEN?! It truly was ahead of it's time! I'm so glad that I grew up with this movie...Still one of my all time fav movies.
In one way, being second in overall popularity to its counterpart Despicable Me was a good thing for this movie, so that those who did enjoy it wouldn't have to deal with the fear that over popularity would encourage cash-grab sequels that don't live up to the original, a fear many people have with their favorite non-series titles. The flip-side is that those who would want a sequel won't get one, but at least we are all still left with an excellent movie that stands on its own perfectly fine.
It was probably originally supposed to become a franchise. The way it ended was the perfect setup for a potential sequel. But despicable me's popularity overshadowed any mainstream success megamind would've gotten. So I would have to disagree with you here. This movie was robbed of its potential. Sorry not sorry
@@LordVader1094 might be an unpopular opinion but I really like the Despicable Me sequels. 3 certainly wasn’t my favourite but I really liked Lucy from the second, I liked the Minions movie as well.
I think older kids appreciated megamind better. I know i did. I mean despicable me was good but the jokes on megamind were funnier, loved them. I dont remember which i saw first but i did see both at the cinema. Mega is one of my favourite movies its so well done.
Not to mention the fact that Megamind pays a lot of homage to classic superhero archetypes particularly superman as this video was alluding to which I'm sure a lot of older people respected and admired. Despicable Me was just an average family comedy with a lot of slapstick humor. Not saying it wasn't that good, but it wasn't that great either. Just average. Honestly, I felt this movie was a lot better, and I honestly would've loved to have seen at least another sequel, or an animated series based on Megamind after he becomes a superhero for Metro City. Yes, I know there's that animated short that they released called "Button of Doom", but honestly I never really cared too much for it. Yeah, it serves as a great metaphor for the character to face who he used to be to move and accept who he is now. And, I did love the message about how if he going to be a superhero, he needs to do it as himself vs trying to be Metro Man. However, from a narrative perspective, "Button of Doom" isn't that great of a follow up when you think about it's flaws on a narrative perspective.
Love both films but Megamind is better, mainly because it has way more depth especially with Hal and how it slowly peels back the layers of his mental issues at first he’s just kinda a creepy nerdy guy but then as the film goes along you really see how far down the rabbit hole the guy is and how insane he is
For me personally, it's like an Anz vs A bug's Life with the two movies. As a child I loved A Bug's Life. But didn't really like Antz. Now as an adult I really like Antz better. I personally feel like as an adult now Megamind is a much better movie, because of the more mature and deeper themes. If I was a kid now, I'd have enjoyed Dispicable Me much more. It's a much lighter movie.
Steven Escareno or what about an animated series about his battles with Metro Man and kidnappings of Roxanne previous to the events in the movie? Megamind just has so much untapped potential that I would love to see in use!
Idk why but when megamind sighs and goes "ugh what a drama queen" I literally flip out at how smooth his movement is. I just started teaching myself how to animate and after that I flip out even more lol I always have to rewind a few times just to watch it 😆😆
I just noticed this. The bus got supposedly laser eyed but “Metroman” is posing like he punched it. A hint that it’s a disguised laser in his hand. Edit: OH! And minion pretended to die in the beginning too, setting a trend that Megamind can see through.
I love how Megamind lured Metroman away from everyone else and into an abandoned building which is isolated from the rest of the city before using his destructive super weapon. That minimised property damage and made sure that no innocents got hurt. Foreshadowing that in his heart he doesn't actually want to hurt civilians?
@@pepozuniga6495 he has never killed anyone except metro man within the entire movie (he dident actually kill metro man) even in his time of ruling the world

Left hand grabs the non existent wheel. Right hand shifts into gear. Then the right leg stomps on the gas.
@@taraktaras7327 But it requires a certain level of force behind it. Obviously the superhuman won't be hurt by a solid gold award smashing on him, but if a regular girl threw that, it'd bounce right off of him.

I don't know if this was pointed out, but one thing I love about Megamind's character is that he mispronounces certain words. This indicates that he learned these words via reading books rather than through conversations with people, which makes perfect sense for Megamind with his book smarts and loner status growing up.

Missed win:
In the rain scene, Megamind tells Roxanne that he can explain what happened and, at the same time, one of the posters from before appears in the background, saying "No, you can't"
also the foreshadowing of MetroMan being MegaMind with saving Roxanne; he has his head down and his fist forward like he punched the bus, but it's cut in half because MegaMind doesn't have the durability or strength to take that bus head on!

Did megamind attempt to dehydrate Titan? I feel like if that was successful it would have proved that they were playing around even more.
@@xgensean considering metro man can move fast enough to stop time? I doubt it could hit him, even if it did affect him
what i like the most is how metroman talks to megamind like he knows who he is. they're rivals, joker and batman type of relationship. so if they were on the same level of no longer being in this rivalry, they really know each other enough to be everyday friends since they've been at this for such a long time

@@NicaremE It probably was planned from the start. Since a lot of movie scripts are made and finalized before shooting or animating
dude every animated movie is planned from the start , unlike live action where actors can improvise sometimes
There's so many fun small details in this movie. Some of the ones not mentioned here that I noticed:
- When Megamind goes to school for the first time you see him give a little smile; and then when he's leaving school and Metroman flies away with the schoolhouse, you see his face drop as he's being carted back to prison, losing his school privileges. He really wanted to fit in and that was the first moment he felt truly rejected.
- His binkie is consistently used as part of his inventions; the tricycle laser, the popcorn laser, the dodgeball force field, even the dehydration gun...
- After Roxanne is kidnapped and it cuts to Hal and the news van, behind the van you can see some people on the ground and some tipped objects, implying the balloon guy wasn't the only victim from the invisible car lmao
- When Metroman is heading to the observatory, you can SEE the fake observatory in the background on the right for a few moments!
I wouldn't even really say that's a complaint, more of a question. Still, nice details

Metroman and Megamind's rivalry was born of labels/status that were put upon them, like clothes; while with Titan, it's born of personal motive (also Titan chose to be a villain, so on his side it still sorta count as a label 🥺👍🏼🌟
.
Sidenote : Megamind picked the colour red for Titan... When he still believed that he's bad just because he should be since everyone thought so. He created a "hero" label (red) that goes against his being (blue)...
Hold on, I think I might wanna cry here...
And Roxanne placed the white coat on Megamind at the last scene! Giving him the hero label!!!😭😭😭
Megamind also tried on Metroman's white cape in his hideout, but quickly dropped it when he thought he's not enough to make it work😭😭😭

Like an actor who os genuinely and completely in love with what he does.
you mean Metrocity, but yes I agree, even after Megamind becomes overlord he doesn't hurt or enslave anyone. Their dynamic was indeed adorable.
Metro Man straight up acknowledges that he always knew Megamind would make a great hero. In the scene where they reveal the Megamind statue, Metro Man goes "Way to go little buddy, I knew you had it in you"
@@Donika691 lol I mean metro city/metrocity is basically metropolis but also not
@@The-kr9rb lol Yeah.

Its underrated because it came closely after how to train your dragon. Sad, because they are both really good movies, but megamind was crushed under the How to Train Your Dragon Series and Despicable Me.
How to Train Your Dragon is still fantastic, though. Megamind's probably better in almost every way but damn if I don't love cute dragons fuckin' shit up.

ikr. and sometimes i seriously dont get why a scene is sinned while i always get to completely understand, agree, and enjoy every win
Cinemasins isn't doing this seriously.
It’s because Cinemawins is for genuinely reviewing a movie and Cinemasins is a comedy channel. 10:11 I just noticed that in that scene the vehicle is clearly cut in half by a laser, yet a second later Megamind (disguised as Metro Man) is stood as if he just punched threw it.

Thanks for explaining that that’s a awesome Detail
Three things I love about each hero/villain's costumes: Titan/Tighten's collar has little points to it that create a little scarlet "V" right in the center. Metroman's "M" is monochrome (so the same V-shape doesn't really stand out) and plain, adding to the idea that he's going through the motions of being a superhero but isn't actually that into it. Megamind's costumes are overtly menacing, but his logo is stylized into a lighting bolt and rounded off - arguably the "friendliest" logo of the three.
Some of my favorite details in the movie:
4. In the prison-break scene, Megamind hiding in his cell to scare the warden seems as just a way to establish him as a goofy, fun-loving villain - but he's also testing and practicing for his escape plan, which *depends* on him hiding well enough so that his cell seems empty
Blue, you did it right
" on Megamind disguised as Bernard reading a book with his own (real) face on it, but then the rest of the verse - which is about "Mr.
Much like Gru wants to impress his mother)
(Fun Fact, the Mr. Miyagi reference in the final movie is a nod to this script, where Master Mind's persona as Hal's mentor was actually Pat Morita - being inspired by a Karate Kid poster in Hal's room)
Really, if the two movies didn't happen to come out the exact same year I dunno if anyone would have compared them.

On top of this he is outcast and shunned by all of society only further reinforcing his idea that he is “the baddest boy of them all” no one in the movie is seen ever reaching out to Megamind nobody once gives him the love and support he desperately needs aside from his faithful minion of course, it reminds me of the quote by mark twain
> “But who prays for Satan? Who in eighteen centuries, has had the common humanity to pray for the one sinner that needed it most, our one fellow and brother who most needed a friend yet had not a single one, the one sinner among us all who had the highest and clearest right to every Christian's daily and nightly prayers, for the plain and unassailable reason that his was the first and greatest need, he being among sinners the supremest?”
He is feared by all and he has come to accept that fear is the only for of respect which he deserves.

I also love the running gag of megamind mispronouncing everything because it actually feeds into his character, giving you this feeling that he's only ever read these words growing up and never really hearing others pronouncing them, feeding into his ostracization and isolation he experienced at a young age.
And, of course, it's another of the Chekhov's Guns that get fired in the climax.
great. now I'm sad :(
At the same time, catching himself mispronouncing one of the words while around Roxanne could be indicative of him growing up around the prisoners who probably had their own sort of prison talk but at the same time he learned how to properly pronounce those words through getting taught about it at school.
Same. As a child and teen I learned words by *reading* far more than actually hearing them pronounced, so I recognized that

tbf if CinemaSins actually only kept sins in his video, it would be about a minute, and I'm serious, notice how he often points out things on screen and calls it a sin, so no matter it's shorter, because morally it would be shorter even if that calling-Megamind-worse-Despicable-me-asshole stretched the vid to an hour.

After minion says “we’re gonna die” the warden’s face always cracks me up, he just looks like he’s thinking “yea probably”
Megamind says that not Minion, Minion just laughs right after then says “wait what?”
I think fan boys just want the most out of superhero movies and this is more of a comedy so it didn't meet expectations
Yeah I remember watching it after it was like...sold at a bargain and thinking ????? This was actually a great and enjoyable film!
This is one of my favorite 3D movies
Bro this is literally the most pure channel on UA-cam I just want to hug this channel
sarcastic digs at cinemasins is pure?
*mostly* agreed though; i like the tone they're reaching for.
I want to make love to this channel.
*Im surprised nobody is talking about how Metro Man looks A LOT like Markiplier when he grew a beard*
OH MY GOD HE DOES
I can actually imagine Mark hitting his head on a window and screaming "AH MY GIANT BLUE HEAD" back when his hair was blue
-"E"-
More shape than color.
Oh my god that's true
What I remember, is that the "presentation!" has a super-cool translation to polish, it's different in a good way. Basically it goes like this:
-you may be a villain, but not a super one!
-whats the difference!
-i have class!
Boy that was great
In Brazil it was more lika ''The Triumphal Entrance''
THOU HAST NO CLASS
Honestly, yeah. I liked Despicable Me, but its sequels really didn't hold a candle to the first. Same goes for Ice Age, for the most part
@@LordVader1094 on the other hand, the Kung fu Panda sequels were pretty good............

It's also about the music score, which is hilarious!
Edit: OH! And minion pretended to die in the beginning too, setting a trend that Megamind can see through.
megamind used saws. you can see it when roxanne takes off his disguise
Also that at the moment after he does that, it pans round to him, and we can see his green eyes.
He also has those iconic green eyes.
“Oh, you’re a villain all right, just not a super one”
“What’s the difference?”

“PRESENTATION!”
A refresher for tomorrow's video. What will it be about? ua-cam.com/video/8agMhYDiXg0/v-deo.html
I love how Megamind lured Metroman away from everyone else and into an abandoned building which is isolated from the rest of the city before using his destructive super weapon. That minimised property damage and made sure that no innocents got hurt. Foreshadowing that in his heart he doesn't actually want to hurt civilians?
Didn't he do that because killing Metroman in an observatory would look cool and all people in Metrocity could watch it?
@@hiiloveu1521 It probably was both, given megamind didn't seem like the type to kill
@@pepozuniga6495 he has never killed anyone except metro man within the entire movie (he dident actually kill metro man) even in his time of ruling the world

Left hand grabs the non existent wheel. Right hand shifts into gear. Then the right leg stomps on the gas.
Can we talk about how strong Roxane is if she can throw a solid gold trophy with enough force to shatter/break it?
I don't think awards are normally given in real gold.
