- Prices for new cars are always on the rise, and with every new model or facelift , we have become accustomed to seeing a significant price hike.
Every once in a while we come across a car which will shake up the market with a shockingly good price. The XUV 700 is a good example of one , and now Kia has knocked the ball out of the park with its Carens. How do they do it?
In the Carens review video of Baiju N Nair he mentioned that "the same mother is feeding Hyundai and Kia". But when the price was announced, literally Carens told Alcazar "Ninte thantha alla ente thantha!!!"

Ee base models onnum immediately arkum kittilla.. I will share my own experience. I checked for MG Astor base model for booking. I got info from showroom that will get the vehicle within 12 months from the date of booking. Like this carens base model also do something like this to convert the customer to other variants. And like Nissan magnite introductory price changed. And the same the carens base models price will change at the delivery time (considering the waiting period)
Isn’t the Carens based on the Sonet / Venue platform while Alcazar is on the Seltos / Creta platform? That’s the reason for lower pricing.
I will plan to buy only after the value class from your side.
But they would have given iMT in the lower NA petrol versions then it will be more VFM.

I did call the showroom just for an enquiry on Carens on the same day of price announcement (just vandipraanthan things😉). They said that the waiting period is 1 and a half month. Also they mentioned that the prices will increase around 10-20k by the time I get the car delivered even if I booked the car that same day. That means even the first batch cars would be sold for a prices higher than announced.

Longer waiting period, no test drive vehicle for base variants (considering doubted power lag in 1.5NA petrol)and above all my budget is 12L and though Carens has a model in that range, I didn't feel as comfortable as my visit after testdriving Xl6.

This strategy is started way before Mahindra XUV 700, by another automobile giant, Tata. Tata Tiago's price was cheaper than Celerio and Wagon R then. Then it eventually hiked. But by that time they grabbed huge market share.

What you guys said about India market and value products is absolutely right. There was a time Sony, Samsung, Nokia and such few players controlled the smartphone market, them Redmi came and brought products some of which even having a profit margin of 100rs. These are the products and companies that will succeed in India. Products that comes with better value proposition, Indians will always have an eye for those and these products and companies will only thrive in India.
When other Manufacturers are having HUGE issues with Supply Chain Issue(especially Chips) how is KIA going to deliver all these bookings. Mahindra has waiting list of more than a year!!

I guess the pricing is definitely a good strategy. With a lot of bookings and semiconductor shortages (real or not), waiting periods will be long. As JayD mentioned, we will see a couple of price hikes in the coming months. So shock pricing is all well and good, it remains to be seen how many will actually get delivery of a Carens at the launch price.
Carens prices hiked silently that even our Sales Advisor at Incheon Kia doesn’t know it. We had booked Luxury Plus Diesel AT and now it’s costs around 80k more. Now thinking of cancelling. Just cheap marketing trick by KIA; introducing with very low price and then hiking it within 2 months of price reveal while offering no price protection. We went to showroom to directly speak to the manager and he just don’t care and didn’t even negotiate with us to consider another variant.
Had really like this car but this kind of behaviour should not be encouraged. Please scrutinise this in upcoming videos chettanmare!
Why carens can't be compared with innova? Doesn't carens deliver the same comfort as of innova? 🤔For an middle class Indian carens and innova are just 7 seater large family vehichle.

I would say indian automobile market is difficult because of the high taxes. Almost 40-50% of the on-road price is paid as taxes, especially in states like Karnataka and Kerala. We are paying tax on tax. Manufactures have to manage their margins from this complex tax structure.

Your ex-showroom price includes 28% GST for any car and additional cess will be there depending on the class of vehicle. 15 lakhs onroad price varunna vandik almost 40-45% will be the taxes. The road tax is calculated on the GST which you already paid as tax, which is double taxing. There are few exceptions in North Indian states.
Very true , at last we get vehicles with less build quality and compromised safety. Our Government is not ready to cut higher taxes then how companies survive without compromising .

Yeah totally. Great episode and we all should be concerned about the price sky rocketing for no reason. And I suggest each one of us, the indian consumer to be aware of cars pricing and to question yourselves why'd I pay so much for any car you're looking for. As we know the legendary Innova in India was 10laks few years back and now it's x3. Okay material costs are okay we do understand but 3 times? Isn't it quite too much?

Instead of developing a new car from scratch, they reused tried and tested seltos formula and might have saved some budget of it, since this being a global model, they might sell first few batches at a low profit margin in india , and once they have recouped the expenses from global sales (as this car is to be exported) , might hike prices with later revisions.
Current pricing probably put this car under radar of lot of people looking to buy an mpv. This car could be an alternate option for cars from different segment and price brackets.

Please be aware that KIA Carens condensation issue still not resolved. In August month production car also this issue still persisting, so if you are going to buy Carens do your PDI properly and take the delivery and its very sure that till today delivered vehicle across all varients from Premium to Luxury Plus all Carens condensation issue not resolved. Many times existing Carens owners are reported to KIA directly and through various service centre across country. But KIA not taking any action on the same and just ignoring the complaints.. So those who are booked and waiting be aware of this condensation issue in Carens!!! Kia India #Carens #condensation

Market penetration pricing is the best suited for Indian market, and when it adds value for money to the base, that's it. Done and dusted. You got the first appeal rest is how you maintain it and they have shown that perfection through the service of seltos and sonet.. That's what kia is doing right now.
There can be multiple reasons for good pricing:
1) This is an indroductory price to get good market. It may increase in near future.
2) I think recent political issues also a reason. i. e., Pakistan hyndai tweet issue created a bad impact on hyndai and even for kia in india. In this hostile situation, kia need to compensate it by good pricing.
Basically it is the different pricing strategy of different companies. So just over price the product claiming that they are selling higher quality product.

KIA could have built a strong car, send it for NCAP crash test, get a good score and stop sending further cars for test like TATA did. People would assume rest of their cars are super built and won't have any safety concerns.

@@JackpotGameraz both would definitely fail really badly. The issue is with the diesel engine. The oil filter with the boiling oil will come crashing through the area with the pedals . Apparently this fiat 2.0 was built for left hand drive . re-engineering is costly .

Tata has a brand value so only they are in 2nd place now. It's not just one or 2 products(Nano failed not bcoz of brand value, its bcoz of marketing)which decides brand value. It's year of hard works, how they evolve accompanied with better product which earns you trust and market position.
