Can't believe how easy this was. Also surprised that there are so many videos ahead of this one that show you how to replace the whole assembly, rather than this simple fix. Thank you very much for posting!
OMG, i spent way too long looking for just this fix INSTEAD of having to take the door off and replace the entire assembly. Thank you for the easy and concise explanation, fix and video!!!
@@shakibzzUSA. I thought I needed to replace the whole sensor until I found this video so I bought the whole thing. At least you have the part number for that. Not sure about just the door or the spring.
I'll add my thanks for this video, which revealed how simple it is to remove and reinstall the soap dispenser door. Like others here, the gasket behind ours had dislodged which led to the latching lever being popped off its pivots trying to force the door closed. After seeing this video I was able to fix everything right in a couple of minutes, no parts required. Cheers!
We are literally professional DIYers, but we don’t know everything. This problem happened for us and I couldn’t figure it out. Thought about calling a guy in our neighborhood but found your video first. Five minutes later, it’s fixed. I owe you one.
Thank you! That was so easy. I have a Jenn-Air and when I called they scheduled a service appointment saying the soap dispenser lid isn't supposed to be removed. I took it off because the gasket became displaced and was stuck. I reinstalled the gasket, aligned the spring (I wish you had shown the installation from that side) and snapped the lid into place. I'm under warranty so I'll still let them come out and check it, but still, I'm so glad I found your video!
THANK YOU! The rubber gasket on the detergent lid dispenser had come loose so I removed the lid and didn't know how to reposition the spring. I typed in KithenAid Dishwasher Detergent Door and found your video. Much quicker than consulting the owner's manual.
This was an amazing video. I had no idea how the spring worked and spent a good solid 15 minutes trying to fin-angle with it. Imagine my surprise when the alignment holes appeared in my field of view when you mentioned them :)
Has ANYONE found where to get this replacement door?? I can't find it and my spring is all bent. I've tried to bend it back, but it doesn't work quite right.
Great video. The black gasket had completely off and I had no idea how to put it back on until I saw your video. Just had to re-seat the gasket and everything seems to be working fine. Thanks!
Thanks so much for this excellent video. Great directions and very clear views of the part. VERY HELPFUL!! and the best one I found on the topic!! Our soap dispenser door stopped working. Following your directions, I took off the dispenser door. The gasket was all twisted off and I think the spring was dislodged. Your directions showed me what to do with the spring, and I put the gasket back. It’s fixed!!
I did not need to replace the soap dispenser door, I just needed to reset the spring that had come loose. I bent the spring slightly to get it back into the correct shape. Video helped me know how to correctly orient the spring and reinstall the cover. Many thanks!
My soap door was getting stuck, and the rubber gasket inside had become dislodged. While trying to fix it, the spring came out, and I wasn't sure how to put it all back together. Watching this video slowly a few times, pausing, and seeing how you had everything configured did the trick! All is well now! Thanks for the video!
Disassembling the door was easy. But I was unable to make it work properly after I put the gasket back in and put everything together by the video. Did your machine work properly after reinstalling the gasket? I found half of my dishwasher soap left behind in the compartment after the cycle was over.
@@RealtorArtmis Yes, mine worked fine afterwards. You want to make sure the soap compartment door is functioning properly. Is there a nice tension when you go to close the compartment door, and a clean snap when it's shut? And then a nice "spring" open when you push the little button? If your answer was NO to either of these questions, then you probably either don't have the spring installed properly, or the gasket isn't seated properly, causing unwanted friction. And both of those scenarios would cause some or all of your soap to stay behind in the compartment during the wash cycle. Good luck!
great video. my spring got stretched in my soap dispenser cover. I can't find the kit only, just the entire part including the soap dispense cover and rinse aid door. Can you tell me the model number for the soap dispenser cover kit and link to someone who carries it.
Thank you so much!! Two days before thanksgiving and my gasket got displaced...my husband started to unscrew the front panel (because that’s what the guy did when he came to replace the unit) and as he’s doing that I decide to Google and found your video.
My identical dispenser wasn't opening. Watching this showed me how to remove it, at which point I saw that the spring was out of place. Fixed in 60 seconds! Thanks!!!
This video was great and I feel so accomplished. I went through your steps and the door held...for a few minutes, then opened. My thought I should just get a new soap door replacement. The companies I contacted told me I have to purchase the entire dispenser unit. Can you advise where I am able to order just the soap door?
Anyone know if this part replaces the one in the KitchenAid dishwasher W11361452A ? Also is the part number - OEM Whirlpool W10861000 Detergent Dispenser ?
This is an excellent video, the only one I found showing the inside of this troublesome part and what looks like an easy fix. The door on my dispenser will not open and I needed to see how it reassembled. After seeing this I reassemble the door and it still won't open to release the soap. The spring looks like the new one in the video, yet it gets caught behind the round part with the tab pointing down. I give up and will just throw in the soap tablet after the initial rinse. In addition, the wheels all fell off which I replaced with stainless steel screws, and the pump failed after 1 year. The next dishwasher will not be a Kitchenaid.
Can anyone provide the name of the dealer or link to Purchase just the Whirlpool soap and rinse aid dispenser cover that goes on the complete soap/rinse aid dispenser part #W 10861000? If you do, please provide info to purchase them. Thank you very much. Jeffsetren@gmail.com
My pod door won't stay shut. There's no gunk in there, it's only 2 years old and I've made sure the spring is in the holes properly. Any idea why the soap door won't stay shut or how to resolve?
I need to purchase the soap dispenser part that pops out / in of the square tray attached to the dishwasher door hoping to avoid the complicated service call to reconnect wiring for dispenser . Has someone found the part number ? I have W10861000 that was the entire assembly requiring a tech to work on wiring from the door.
The video showed me how to fix my dispenser. The open button was missing, so the door would not stay shut. Found the button undamaged in the filter an I was able to reinstall it. All good!
AWESOME!!! I was dismayed at the BS video so started READING. Amazing what one can find if they take their time. I had the same said "open" button laying right in the filter housing. I fished it out from around the bracketry, put it back in it's place and fixed it! You rock Chris!
You mention there is a kit for the soap dispenser cover as shown in the video above. I cannot find it on the whilrpool parts website you mention. Can you plese let me know where I can get this? I believe it is just the spring that has become faulty. Thanks.
The video is a great help. The spring needs to fit tightly to the door though. If it is not snuggly against the door hatch it catches on the release clip and the door will not spring open. If you take the cover off you can see the spring under the release clip. (Circle with curved tab that the motor turns when it is time to open the cover.) The spring is supposed to slide over the curved tab, but if it is too far from the door it catches under the tab instead of sliding over it. (When the gasket starts to come off the door it bends the spring away until it catches under this tab.) Push the gasket back into the groove and bend the spring back into the correct shape. Test it before you run a load to make sure it springs open.
I searched online but cannot find the soap dispenser replacement cover as seen in your video. Only one I found was white and not the right size. Can anyone please send a link to this part? Thanks.
The tiny spring used by the "open" switch came out and the cover would not stay closed. Was able to remove and reassemble the cover lid thanks to this video. Otherwise, I would need to purchase the whole assembly. Would be helpful if the link to the lid was provided

An easy way to prevent this for me was to invest in a spray bottle and fill it with food grade distilled vinegar. I spray in and around the soap dispenser slide regularly and the problem is gone Apparently it was soap residue or minerals that were causing the door to stick. Also, I sprayed the metal slides (upper rack) and the composite tray wheels (lower) and the trays move in and out much nicer on my machine.
"Just remove it, and it snaps right off". When I did that, it broke two small pieces off the track that runs along the left side. When he pulls the second side of the door off, and when he puts it back on, it damages the plastic rail. There appears to be a channel further up that will allow you to pull the door out without damaging anything.
Hello sir frist thanks for video but how I find the lid online what I write to find because my detergent lid is broken it’s same like you are video ! Thanks
You can buy it on Amazon. W10861000 for my Whirlpool. About 65 bucks. My problem was the gasket inside of sliding door was off track. Although a little different than the one in the video, I was able to pry one side then the other side with a screw driver and pull the door up. I reseated the gasket, put the spring in the hole and pushed the door down back on the track. I was lucky that I didn’t have to buy a new one, disconnect the power and removed and replace the dishwater door on my model.
I imagine you have found something by now, since you posted a week ago, but I have found the part number for only the cover: W10888684. However, even though a lot of places sell the lid, it is around $50. You can get the entire detergent kit on Amazon for about $60.
The lid cover, PN: W10888684 is $70.00 CAD. My Maytag dishwasher was only $600.00. How can a 4sq-inch piece of plastic be this much money? I thought my BMW had expensive parts... they have nothing on Whirlpool!
I think I'm finished with KitchenAid, Whirlpool, Kenmore, etc., dishwashers. KitchenAid is the best they say. Bullsh*t! Too fragile, expensive, and ineficient. Quiet, and energy, and water saving doesn't mean anything if your dishes don't get clean. Running through washer, then washing by hand doesn"t save water, or energy. I had a $400 Whirlpool that cleaned great until the touchpad (weakest link back then) went out. Touchpads are 1/2 the price of the machine. you buy a new one, and it's expensive, newly designed junk. Keep your energy and water savings. I want clean dishes.

cant find it either
@@lisagowdy5218 My parents had a Kenmore dishwasher that lasted 30 years. Replaced it 5 years ago with a Maytag. (Same as the one in this video) Nothing but problems. Need the soap door spring now.
Check the bottom of the dishwasher for the open tab. Put it back in and put the sliding door back in just
Like they showed.
???????? I have a whirlpool soap dispenser door just like this that won’t stay closed. Any hints on how to fix. Doesn’t look like anything is broke the spring seems fine.
