Thank you. My seal had become unattached and this video saved me a chunk of money. I was able to remove the cover, fix the seal, put the spring back in place, and put it back together in minutes.
Would you please tell me where the spring should be put? I just had a broken cover and found we might have the same problem as yours. Thanks for your help.
Great video thank you. I only had to re-set the gasket that had fallen out. Did not realize that sliding door could pop off until i watched this video. I never would have guessed the lid snapped off! It definitely didn't feel like that would work without breaking it but it worked..so awesome. Thank you
I was in the same boat!!
This was amazingly helpful. Wish that you'd gotten a shot of the spring going into the alignment hole, but it didn't take much to figure it out. Hardest part (and not that hard) was getting the gasket reseated. Thank you!
Many thanks for this video! My dishwasher is only two months old, but the gasket already slipped out of the groove of the cover. This was causing the soap to dispense too early, during the "pre-wash" phase. I found this out when i opened the dishwasher to add some additional dirty dishes and noticed the dishes were already soapy after only 2-3 minutes of operation. I knew the soap dispenser does not open until at least 10 minutes into the cycle. So, I opened the soap dispenser to find the detergent was half used up already because the wash water had leaked into the detergent dispenser. Once i re-seated the gasket in the groove of the cover, it was operation as usual!
Thanks a lot for the video! The gasket had fallen out of mine and following this video I was able to take the lid off and put it back in place. I never would have guessed the lid snapped off! It definitely didn't feel like that would work without breaking it but it worked like a charm. I suspect the gasket won't stay in place all that long so I will probably buy one of the replacement kits anyway. Thanks again!
Thank you for this video! I noticed the rubber gasket was not in place on my soap dispenser cover so I removed it to push the gasket back in but I couldn't figure out what to do with the spring. I had no idea that I had to connect it to the tiny hole so this video was extremely helpful!
Actually your comment helped me more than this video, thank you!
My gasket came lose also and while I got it all put together, the lid wouldn't open all the way as it seemed it was catching on something. In the comments below this problem was addressed and the solution is that you have to push the short end of the spring ALL the way into the little hole in the door. Now mine works like new!
0:48 - So my lid had a rubber band that popped out. Does this lid kit include the rubber band as part of the lid?
Oh wait.. it's the rubber seal lol. Better put that back in!
The seal on our PreWash door was coming out so I had to figure out how to remove this door.
After seeing this, I felt comfortable enough to take of the door and was able to reapply the seal correctly!
Thanks!!
Thanks for posting this video. I got my KitchenAid dishwasher in Nov 2016 and the gasket started sliding out of the top within a couple of months. I had a guy come out to fix it while it was under warranty, but it starting rolling out of the top again after a few months (out of warranty by this time). Today I couldn't even get the dispenser to slide open due to the gasket having come completely loose under there. I always wondered if I could figure out how to fix it if it came out again and with your video I was able to do that!
The gasket had slipped out of the soap dispenser lid. Thanks to your video I was able to remove the lid, reseat the gasket and install the lid. Thanks!
Had the same problem. My gasket slipped out of the groove within 2 months of purchase!
No part numbers for the items in question. They sell the whole dispenser but its anywhere from $60-80. I just need the rinse aid lid, but no one seems to know where to get this part.
Very good video, as easy as shown. Thank you
I have been searching for the rinse aid lid, and only keep seeing the full assembly replacement.
You had two separate door covers!!! Can you please let me know the part number for the rinse aid lid?! The tab broke on mine, therefore it won't stay closed. Popped it off, and have been searching for days!!
Thank you so much for posting this!!!!
Awesome. That was a simple and concise video. That was easy - Thanks
Thank you for posting the video. The soap dispenser cover is exactly what I need. Unfortunately I am unable to find where to purchase that exact part. Can you help with that.
this is so helpful except I have not been able to locate the replacement part.
What's the replacement soap despenser lid part #
The spring for the soap dispenser somehow managed to get destroyed. Do you know if it's possible to just purchase the spring? And if so do you know where I could find it. I looked on the Whirlpool site and couldn't find it.
What company did you get the part numbers from?
His removal process is wrong. If you do that you will make a SMALL chip in the plastic rail that the prewash cap pins slide under. Look at time stamp 0:38 right after the cap was removed. You will see on the left rail two cut outs on the cap rail. The one to the back is a chip as the cap pins broke it off during removal. That happened to me.. Slide a butterknife between the right middle of cap and the right rail (toward the rinse aid). Move the top of the knife toward the left rail and gently pull up on the cap (rinse aid side). The pins will release with no damage.
Thank you jinnjam. The only thing I would add is if you look at the video at 0:32 you will see the door is all the way in the open position. This is where you can follow jinnjam instructions. The door’s posts will line up with the cut-outs and makes it easier to come out. When you install the door, line the posts up with the cut-outs again. Note: I have a year old Whirlpool America
Can this new improved pop off door door be installed on the original soap dispenser, and if so how do you remove the old door? Thanks dgs
Used yours and jinnjam's recommendations, and have no damage to dispenser rails. Thanks, folks!
Is there anywhere I can buy just the lid or the lid spring
The door costs as much as the whole unit when you find them on ebay I just bought the whole door soap dispenser unit unit for $35
Thank you so much for posting!!!
Hello, could you please give me a link where i can buy this kit. i was able to find only the whole dispenser unit. Thank you
thanks! fixed thanks to your video!
Is it possible to order just the door replacement and not the entire dispenser?
I need that exact door/spring assembly. Where can I get it
$51.89 at Genuine Replacement Parts
The parts fit a variety of brands: Kenmore, Kitchenaid, Jenn-air, Whirlpool, and more. The rinse door part #W10888683 and the detergent door part #W10888684.
Thanks for the part number.. I can NOT believe that this little lid shipped is about 1/20 the total cost of the dishwasher. This is ridiculous charging this much for a plastic lid. The entire assembly is like $85. It would cost about $12000 for the dishwasher if you bought it in parts.. and then the labor to assemble it. Good God the prices they charge.
Thank you for the part number! $64!?!?
spoke with rep at ferguson on Friday who is looking for cover kit for me. will post here if successful.
Can you please provide the part number for the sliding lid ( part that you replaced in this video )? I can not locate this online.
Thank you!
I can't find this part anywhere

Does anyone know what the part number is for the soap dispenser door? I could not find it anywhere and replacing the whole dispenser unit is expensive
How do I set this kind of rinse dispenser to a higher setting? There is no knob.
Hard to believe this simplistic part (W10888684 : Whirlpool Dishwasher Detergent Cover Kit) is $45...... I've reset the gasket several times with success. Now the spring will close one time, and the dispenser lid spring keeps popping out after locking into place.. Press the release button and the door opens about 1/4 inch. It seems to be catching on something then spring pops off. I'm no idiot on this sort of stuff, but so far it is alluding me to figure out why the spring won't stay put and why the door snags on opening.. And yes... the long end of spring goes into dispenser and the short end to the slider door. Piss poor design..
I went to the whirlpool parts website you indicated, and chatted with someone, and was told that the door covers are not available, and that I still had to buy the whole assembly. Please help!
I just went through the same process you did only to be told the entire dispenser had to be replaced. How do we contact this guy who clearly has shown us otherwise?
THIS PISS - PORE DESIGN FOR THE SOAP DISPENSER SHOULD BE RECALLED !!!! AND SHOULD HAVE JUST THE LID AVAILABLE FOR REPLACEMENT RATHER THEN HAVING TO PAY 83.00 + DOLLARS FOR THE THE COMPLEAT SOAP DISPENSER !!!!!!
Seen this replacement door listed for anywhere between $37 and #63!! What universe do we live in? For a piece of plastic the size of a match-box. It's out of stock everywhere though, so no use complaining about the price. Has anyone been able to successfully GLUE that gasket back in place? Silicone?
Plain stupid how a 50 cent item can render a $500 appliance useless after two years. Soap washes out of the dispenser before it should.
I just took mine apart. The gasket is a pressure fit. It has teeth all the way round. I simply stuffed the gasket all back in with a tool like a fork. I had the gasket which worked its way out pinned to the message board for a long time because I didn't want to break the dispenser by ripping the door off. This guy was a bit rough if you ask me. There are grooves for the sliders to line up with. Opening the hatch lines them up and you can gently pry it out and replace it with the spring in sight of its hole.
This video indicates they have a door-only kit for either the rinse or detergent door and provides a link. If you follow the link and look/ask them in chat, you find that they do *not* sell a door only option. You have to buy the whole assembly. Misleading. Maybe they used to have such a thing (and they really should have such a thing) but now I see it nowhere. I'm not paying for the whole assembly so I guess I'll just keep throwing my soap in the bottom of the tub. Perhaps this video should be removed since the kit doesn't/no longer exists @w service
What is the part number for the rinse aid door?
I need this one also!!!
Stupid. This is the 2nd time I had to replace this piece of plastic in a year. For those looking for this part. It is not available on amazon or whirlpool parts.

did anyone find the part number for this?
Has anyone found this cover yet? I was online with Sears, and they also told me the entire unit had to be purchased.
Me to. If someone finds this lid please let me know? Google sure can't seem to find it :(
Where did you get these two new kits. Kitchenaid insists that they are not available and that the entire detergent dispenser must be re-installed.

I would like to know as well

FYI, you will have to buy the complete soap door assembly, to the tune of $80.00+. You can not buy just the door.
Dagnabbit!!
When I removed the door (mistakenly) the spring popped out. I have worked for more than on hour trying to figure out how the spring is positioned so I can reinstall it. I'm not particularly mechanical - especially when it comes to springs. Could anyone suggest where and how this spring fits. Even if I stop the video showing the inside section of the cover I can't quite capture it.
I thought I did. It worked a few times then popped out again. Really frustrating.
Thank you. I did what you suggested and it seemed to work.
