A BIG THANKS for the video. I saved over $300 in repair bills by using this video! One little comment. The large pin on the spring goes into a hole that becomes a smaller hole. If the large spring pin does NOT go into the smaller hole then the mechanism will not function.
The soap dispenser on my Bosch dishwasher stopped opening and I was about to call a repair person. I decided to search the internet to see if I could find any info on this and came across your video. Followed your clear instructions, and now my soap dispenser works perfectly!! Thank you for saving me $$$$ .
I opened mine with the great help of your video. mine was near spotless - no gunk of soap build up. I went through the motions and am running a load of dishes now. Hoping just touching the parts will help my situation. Thank you for your video~
Great video! I soaked the door in vinegar for a while and ended up pulling the rubber gasket out, cleaning it off and putting it back. Works great now.
Omg you saved me. The door wouldn’t stay closed and I thought I’d need a replacement. It closed from just your first tip re moving the little lever button. I soaked the cover in some vinegar to remove deposits, hit it with a toothbrush and voilà! Cheers!
IMPROPER LOADING of dishes can also lead to soap dispenser not opening! Thank you for the video. While cleaning my soap dispenser as your video instructed, I noticed I had very little build up and while sitting on the floor with the dishes still unloaded, I realized my soap dispenser did not open because I had loaded dishes improperly! I had loaded soup bowls in the top rack that extended into the “cut out cavity” where the soap dispenser fits. One of the bowls pressed on the sliding door or perhaps above the sliding door and kept the soap dispenser from opening. Hopefully, this comment will help someone else who is frustrated like I was that the soap had not dispensed and the dishes are still dirty.
Thanks so much! I had overfilled the soap dispenser so it could not open, then the soap had dried into a solid mass. Once I got the door off (it was tricky but I followed your directions) I was able to dissolve the soap, clean everything up like you showed in the video, then replace the door and it works perfectly. Moral of the story - don't overfill the soap dispenser!!
For anyone who had the same problem as me, be aware that there is a very tiny spring beneath the darkish button which opens the hatch when pressed. If your button is loose and can not be pressed, the problem is very likely a loose or missing spring. Open the hatch just like in this video, then unlock the button from its holding sockets and slide it out to your hand. Locate the spring that should be beneath the button mechanism (make sure the spring does not fall off and disappear, it's super tiny so easy to lose). Use some glue or something to place the spring on the button mechanism and slide it back to its place. I know this instruction may be confusing without video demonstration but once you realize what the problem is, you can figure the rest out yourself easily. It took me a long while to realize that the button has a tiny spring on it. Mine was loose, yours might be missing. Hope this helps! Great video by the way!
I had trouble with my dishwasher and your video helped. I soaked the soap door in white vinegar and cleaned up most of the soap gunk overnight. I just needed to scrub the spring and crevasses until clean. Running the first load through now and keeping my fingers crossed this saves me a service call.
The door on our dispenser would barely stay closed. I popped it off as described here and used a toothbrush with some CLR to remove calcium buildup. It works again! Thank you! 😃
Thanks for the video. Following your steps, I managed to get the door off and clean out all the gunk. I also removed the rubber o-ring on the inside of the door and cleaned the gunk under that. I used a can of compressed air to get the gunk out. Was also easy enough to put everything back together again in the reverse order. Cheers!
Thanks a ton for this! The spring popped out of my soap dispenser and I had no idea how to pop the door off without breaking it, or how that spring was supposed to fit in there. You solved both problems!
thanks - I was in panic and simple search took me to your video right at top of search and all good. I actually just poured hot water over the whole thing before finding your video and when i went back it was working fine, but feel good that if that failed I knew what to do next thank you thank you!
Excellent; my Bosch had about a decade of mineral deposits and I had to use a flat head screw driver and wire brush to clean it off But once done, back to working great. Love these repair videos. I had to replace the bottom gasket on the door and it was so easy and only cost me a couple days to get a $30 part and then install it within 30 minutes. Probably saved at least $200-$300 in repair charges, as well as not having to lose time waiting for a repairman.
Excellent video! It gave me the confidence to do the repair. My soap door had lots of soap scale covering the rubber gasket. I scraped it off, cleaned everything as instructed, sprayed a little silicone lube on the parts and reassembled. It moves sooooooo easily now. Works great. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Thanks for the video, it would appear that mine wasn't gunked up very much at all, but it did open on my next test, after 2 washes, not opening. Fingers crossed. Also it went back together with the spring and all fairly easily. Merry Christmas.
Thank you, gr, very helpful. I would add that if your door is as gunky as mine, an old toothbrush dipped in white vinegar is useful as a soft scrub brush.
Many thanks for the clear explanation. I was able to get get the detergent tray slider off with your video and succeeded in cleaning out the debris making the tray slider open freely, thus allowing the detergent to fulfil its role again. A1.
Same issue here the plastic tabs that hold the gasket have expanded. I may eventually replace the dispenser, but for now I bent them down. I likely should have used a file instead.
Tried all these tips, but no luck. I finally realized the the small plastic tabs that hold down the rubber gasket had bent out, causing the door to get caught on the dispenser. I bent them back down with pliers and my problem was fixed.
Thank you very much for posting this. I have been using this dishwasher since 4 years ago. Took off the door and did not see any gunk but cleaning the railing with my toothpick did the job. That's where the dirt was. Very useful.
I'm running a cycle now and hope this solves the problem (and it's not some kind of timer issue.) It does open and close much, much better so my fingers are crossed. Thanks so much for sharing.
I had a Bosch for years, and always had this problem. I just got a new one only 2 months ago, and hoped that they would have fixed whatever design flaw caused this, but alas, no. I only use liquid gel, there's never gunk or hardened stuff in the dispenser, it's clean clean clean, yet it still has a problem with sometimes not opening & dispensing soap during the wash. The only thing that works is to thoroughly saturate the dispenser cracks & clasps with WD-40. I had a crappy Maytag before my Bosch, and it never had this problem. The dishwasher at my office doesn't have this problem. My mother-in-law's dishwasher doesn't have this problem. Why can't Bosch resolve this?
I agree I had a dishwasher from the 70s or 80s before it finally died and I replaced it with this one, And it’s nothing but these little problems. Three years in and it’s ready for the trash
This was very helpful - turns out a dirty dispenser was not the problem for me - and this might be helpful to others. A piece of the lid was sticking up (hardly noticeable!) causing the lid to stay closed. When I got the top off it didn't seem to need a cleaning. After a bunch of trial and error playing around I came to realize that the problem was due to a small piece of the lid that was sticking out (towards the main door and soap holder) preventing the lid from moving to the open position when it should. My lid is slightly different than the one shown. Mine has three tiny parts of the brown/gray lid holding in the blue track that goes around the inside of the lid in a rectangle. These three retainers??? are on the bottom side of the lid. One of them was sticking up! After carefully jamming it down to get out the way and match the other two: success! It's working great now.
Thank you so much for this video! Made my day 🙏🏼 Never would have thought about it but you may also wanna use proper dishwashing detergent.. My problems started when I switched to a cheaper brand. It doesn't dissolve properly so it sticks on the bottom of the dispenser and around the big spring and the small spring on the little button making the door immobile. So annoying.
Still won't stay shut. Was fairly clean to begin with... is super clean now. Followed all steps shown. Door slides beautifully, but won't catch anything in "shut position"... thus it won't stay shut.
Well then you may need to take the whole front panel off. But first try rotating the part that sticks through. It should rotate back and forth just one millimeter or so. When it's rotated clockwise the soap dispenser opens. When counter clockwise the soap dispenser stays closed. You can see it better with the cover off. The rotational axis shaft is capped by a round section of the part that rotates.
Thanks for reply. I actually kept cleaning & monkeying with it some more, and I finally got it to state shut. Most likely, in my continued efforts, I rotated the part you'd advised enough to get it to work.

I know this is super old but same issue here with our Bosch DW what was the end result I’m about to take the DW to a farm where it can run and play lol if you know what I mean
I've had to do this periodically since probably a year after buying my SHE6AF02UC. Sadly, it is required more frequently now. This most recent cleaning only bought me about a month.
You probably have hard water like me. I have to clean the soap door every 2 years. You might want to try a different brand of soap. I've learned to soak the door in vinegar for 20 minutes. Particularly the tiny spring area inside the cover. Also I don't use jet dry so it's recommended to fill the jet dry reservoir with vinegar (which I don't do much but occasionally I remember). Like vinegar, jet dry is acidic and helps to eat away at the crud (mostly salts). Also occasionally I put a cup or 2 of vinegar in when it starts filling (after starting, wait for it to drain and then when you hear the water going in, open the front and add the vinegar then).
@@gr575 We're on a well and we can see the calcium left behind where water is left to evaporate, so the water is definitely hard, although I'm not sure to what degree. I had a water test done by Ward Labs some years ago, but I can't recall the results other than that our pH was neutral (7.0). I like the idea of adding vinegar from time to time. l'll try that. Thanks!
@@doomedplanet8587 My ceramic dishes like the white bowls get this metalic gray "dirt" on them after a year or two that won't clean off unless I soak them in vinegar (don't add any water) for about 20 minutes. So sometimes I put *clean* dishes in the dishwasher and put in a few cups of vinegar (after it drains). But the stainless steel dishwasher parts looks much better also after running a few cups of vinegar through a rinse. The soap door - if removed and soaked in vinegar cleans up nice.

I don't know why you made this video about this tiny detail of life, BUT IT SAVED MY SANITY TODAY. Thank you thank you.
Isn’t UA-cam great?
Videos like this are why I come to youtube. Fixed me up in just a few minutes. Thanks for making my world better today!

Dude, the most helpful video on UA-cam history, thank you
Great video! I soaked the door in vinegar for a while and ended up pulling the rubber gasket out, cleaning it off and putting it back. Works great now.
Yes, vinegar can help remove those mineral encrustations. This video was so helpful!
Thank you! My detergent door was stuck shut and I found your video. Saved the day!
Great video. Just saved buying a new dispenser. I soaked the cover in vinegar and that did the trick.
A year later and it needed to be cleaned again. Having forgot how to do it, I'm back here watching your excellent video again. Thanks again! 🙂

hey guys, another maintenance tip on the Bosch - use the toothpick to clean out the tiny ports in the rotating sprayer. They plug up after a while.
Thank you good idea

Works for my Samsung dishwasher with an almost identical soap dispenser. Thanks for the video!
😮
Thank you for the short and simple and effective way to clean off all the gunk and fix the dispenser.
Thank you for this video. I had quit using my soap dispenser and just poured soap on one of the dishes. Your instructions were easy to understand.
Thank you! Just fixed the little door on my dishwasher, the rubber washer came out months ago and never got around to fixing it till today!

Most useful video on UA-cam. Put the play speed to 0.25x for how to put the spring and door back on!
🎉 YAY! This is EXACTLY the video I needed! And you’re so thorough and straightforward! THANK YOU SO MUCH 🙏
This was the most helpful video of all on youtube. You helped us save a lot of money and anxiety. Thank you so much!
Nice instructions.... I was able to fix the soap dispenser issue for my dishwasher today.
This video saved us a repair call; detergent is now deploying on schedule! Thank you for shooting this and posting it.
great video, clear instructions, no fluff, nice camera work. THANKS!

Thank you for the video. Took the guess work out of my repair.
You inspired me to degunk the rinse compartment too. This totally worked! Thanks
Thank you so much, worked perfectly well with my Siemens dishwasher, 2 minutes, all done!
EXCELLENT right apart and soaked in near-boiling water to get the crud out with a toothbrush then right back together. YES !!!
Great video and advice. I, too, used vinegar to dissolve the hard scale. Everything looking good now. Thank you!
Tried all these tips, but no luck. I finally realized the the small plastic tabs that hold down the rubber gasket had bent out, causing the door to get caught on the dispenser. I bent them back down with pliers and my problem was fixed.
Haven't tried a wash yet, but it was definitely clogged with gunk that obstructed the spring action. So simple! Thanks.
Thank you very much for posting this. I have been using this dishwasher since 4 years ago. Took off the door and did not see any gunk but cleaning the railing with my toothpick did the job. That's where the dirt was. Very useful.
Exactly what I needed today. Thank you for this!
Thank you for this!! Really help me today 😅
You're a legend pal, saved my day today!
Very helpful!! I was going to buy a whole new dispenser
Just did this on my kenwood dishwasher worked a treat thanks
I'm running a cycle now and hope this solves the problem (and it's not some kind of timer issue.) It does open and close much, much better so my fingers are crossed. Thanks so much for sharing.
Addendum: It's working fine. I have no idea how much you saved me on a service call...$100 minimum, I bet. Thanks again for your help!
Fixed the issue perfectly! Thanks so much. Excellent video!

this worked for my Maytag dishwasher also, almost identical mechanism thanks for your help.
Helped
With my whirlpool. Just needed cleaning. Thanks
Great thanks to you, sir!
Oh my god, I could hug you right now 😭😭😭😭
may 9 2023, IFB Bosch dishwasher, the cover had come off, and followed instructions to put it back. TY
This is amazing ! Life saver thank you!!!
best vid about the problem. thank you
Thank you! Spot on instructions!
Thanks man! Dishwasher fixed
Worked on my LG! Thanks!

Door moves much more positively now.
Wash in progress....
Thank you so much for this video!
Very clear and helpful. Thank you so much.
when you have so much hard water deposit as in the video its a good idea to run a cycle with a cup of vinegar or special dishwasher cleaner.
My lid was tight, and often failed to open. I filed the four small knobs to make for smaller diameter and also smaller lenght, and the lid now moves easily.
Cudos man.
You are a savior 👍
