I skimmed through. I'd much rather see the older courses. This new course is so out of sync with reality, in that 99.9 percent of the owners of SUV's aren't going into the thicket of forests where you'd maybe see a quad snaking in and out of. I honestly don't see the point.

Would be great to see this, and also the new E-Class. Especially since I'm likely to buy one of them next year.
Bmw has offered us review vehicles, but they won’t let us take them on the trail. So we’ve declined.

For 50K I think Kia forgot who its target market is.
For that price I would take a Subaru Ascent Onyx Limited any day over the Kia.
Why? I'm considering both, and the 2025 Sorrento hybrid. Kia is rated with better reliability than Subaru on consumer reports as well. Any thoughts Ryan? Thanks for posting!
Over half of Kia buyers make over 100k. Their target market has evolved to cater to higher end customers

At least Subaru won’t cheap out on you and give the Canadians modes that are software controlled while charging you the same price for less features when they don’t offer them to the American market.

I would bet my money on a Honda V6 for reliability EVERY DAY over a Kia/Hyundai buzzy turbo.
Definitely would get a pilot over this any day.
I know this might never be seen, but I'd like to bring some attention to a comment Ryan made at about the 0:08 second mark about how the Sorento "finally has some off-road capability". I'd argue this is the least capable Sorento by far due to it having a DCT transmission. The original Sorento was a very capable body-on-frame truck while second and especially third generations had very good AWD systems with regular automatics. In fact that third-gen Sorento was so off-road capable, Kia advertised it going up Moab which is something they'd never do with this current gen.
Moreover, the internet is littered with videos of first, second, and third-gen Sorentos tackling difficult off-road courses. Most videos of the fourth-gen attempting this end with it overheating its DCT. If Kia were to make a truly capable Sorento for off-road now, it'd be based on the hybrid.
Snow mode reduces power.. yet Ryan always used snow mode and no off-road modes and complains there's no power. Rolls eyes.

In 2007, my dad bought the first generation of KIA Sorento. It was a good off roader. We took off roading in the Pine Barrens of NJ, and we drove on the sands of Island Beach State Park. In 2010 KIA and other auto manufacturers went away from off-roading.
I'm only here to support the channel. $49k for a KIA is INSANE! I'd take the Pilot over this any day, and I don't even really like Honda.

Ryan, great review! I'm a Honda fanboy based only on the 250k mi. I've put on my CR-V, but this is a really nice vehicle. And, I'm old enough to remember that the "Trailsport" was pretty much a trim option only a few years ago. KIA will follow the money as well.
Hyundai/Kia's biggest mistake was adding a third row, dual clutch transmission and an off road appearance package to a mid size city car "crossover" and calling it improved.....
Disappointed that it struggled so much on your easier off road test. It would clearly be no match for your mountain course. Great video as always.
Actually, I didnt think it did that badly for a crossover. It did fine on the first part of the course. Ground clearance was more of an issue than traction. That said, if I was going to purchase a hyundai/kia I would probably go for the Tuscon hybrid or the Telluride.
It was doing fine until he put in in Snow mode. Found it severely limits power yet kept it in Snow mode.
@@ThisGuyRides Yea, you right. Snow mode is probably not the way to go. Wish Ryan had more clearly explained what other modes were available, especially if there was an "off road" mode. He could have also just turned off traction control.
This is the un-Subaru. Lots of style. Very little substance.

Happy to post positively against the grain LOL … candidly, I think that Sorento looks great along with its pre-refresh. Possibly the option of a traditional auto aside the DCT would be nice, but admittedly I’ve had no issues with the ‘23 Sonata NLine I’m leasing and love what the Hyundai group is producing, planning to sign a lease on a GV70 Sport soon. - People quickly deride Hyundai/Kia claiming they’re unreliable, but I believe many folks have experienced issues b’c they’re unfamiliar w/the dynamics of DCTs & turbo-charged engines.
So it still has the exploding DCT? Awesome.
Would love to see a Genesis GV70 or GV80 on the mountain test course and this course!

I would really appreciate if all the data you give us would be as well in metric as in imperial. I am always with the calculator changing from gallons to litres, kilometres to miles miles and vice versa. Thanks so much.
Having the three “off-road” modes in Canada really does make a huge difference. I would never take my ‘21 Sorento X-Line through these courses with its 20” tires, but with our studded winter tires, I’ve gone over sandy hills and mud tracks with no issues.
But I agree that the Honda Pilot Trailsport is massively more capable than this X-Pro.
Ryan, have you ever considered tilling up the soil after the logs and having a sand/loose dirt pit?
I have. Haven’t gone all in yet.
I personally think when it comes to ppl that live in hot places that there should be a cold and not just hot on steering wheels
why is hyundai/kia insistant on using dual clutch transmissions seems like they always have issues with them.
I bought 2023 Hyundai santa fe sel year ago. No dual cluth no turbo. Which i like. I don't trust Dual cluth from lower end Car manufacturers. Porsche is only dual cluth u want.

You should not put it in snow mode for logs. I have the previous model. I climb bigger obstacles with normal drive mode with no issues.
Kia may have redeemed itself with these updates. But it's still a soft roader when it comes to going on a trail.
Had a 2016 Sorento, loved it. Purchased a 2024 xline limited Sportage(Canada’s top trim). Never hated a vehicle more in my life. Will never buy Kia again. I absolutely hated the dual controls for climate and infotainment. I cut my losses
We had a 2016 Sorento as well (with the 2.0L Turbo engine). Served us well for about 7.5 years. Planned on keeping it a few more years, but we have 3 friends who had the same engine in their Santa Fe and all 3 of the failed (at the 100,000 to 120,000 km mark). We decided to trade ours in before we were next and bought a 2023 Subaru Forester Wilderness. We love our Subaru, and while it's not a specsheet warrior, it's a fantastic daily driver and actually has some "off road" chops. No, it's not a Rubicon, but it's more capable than most regular crossovers.
I had a 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, nothing but problem after problem and terrible service from two different dealerships. I couldn't get rid of it fast enough, no more Korean vehicles for me.
@@pdxtim1377 Our other car is a 2021 Toyota Venza (which is also a hybrid). I've had it 3 years and it's been flawless (as one would expect). One of the reasons I bought it was I was sick of dealing with the Kia dealer previously (it replaced a 2012 Rio5).
I really like Kia after buying Kia Telluride. It is a game changer!

@@drivingsports Yep, that lack of ability displayed while in the snow setting, if that is across the board would be enough not to buy it. Well the turbocharged engine, the lack of ground clearance and possibly some other things would be reasons not to buy it. Oh and 50,000 or $40,000 for a Hyundai / Kia 😅

Of course snow mode limits power. If you were driving on snow you wouldn’t want your wheels to spin so why would you expect them to spin over the logs in snow mode??

why do you keep comparing this to the Pilot? isn't the Telluride going against the Pilot while the Sorento goes against the Honda CR-V?
CRV isn’t a 3-row, nor does it have an off-road variant.
Not sure who the person that put a DCT in this (and Santa Fe) is, but that was a seriously stupid idea. Elantra N? Sure, I get it. Sorento and Santa Fe? NO! Wrong transmission for the task.

Hyundai has the XRT. Kia has the X-Pro. Ryan called it XRT
Figured I’d make that mistake at least once.
Looks like Kia still needs to work on their traction control programming and all-wheel drive system before they can justifiably use their "X-Pro" designation with any real meaning.
Snow mode reduces the engine power. Stop using it when going over obstacles. The slow throttle response is so the tires dont spin and the vehicle starts in a higher gear with less power.
Either way suv struggling to keep traction.

Two tablets glued into a slightly curved screen - THESE ARE THE INSTRUMENTS? Looks cheap and not ergonomic. No hood above, no glare-free wells for instruments. I hope that at least replacing it would be as easy as disconnecting one cable and pulling it up. I so don't like the current trend for replacing real instruments with tablets. Going to keep my vehicle until its wheels fall off.

Dual clutch is plain garbage.
Kia build quality is horrible, same with Hyundai. Lots of people are WOWed by the tech but all I care is does it work and for how long. With this brand you don't know.
