I miss the fact of Lucille Ball not being alive to entertain anymore. Even in retirement, it was just comforting, somehow, when Lucy was still living among us; the world seemed a brighter, more hopeful place. But with all her many hours of work in films for the small and big screens (and radio), in a way Lucy is immortal. I am grateful Carol Burnett is still with us, a situation I hope will endure for many years still to come. I'd love to see her return to television on a regular basis again.
Actually, I have watched her films from the 40's 50's 60's and finally Mame in 1974 (several times) . Re-watched I Love Lucy many many times, and again watched The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy. Every now and then I come across shows I did know about like this one with Carol Burnett - thanks Lucy for your prodigious output for over 40 years, plus love to see her photos from her earlier modeling career. Such an incredible beauty. You make my heart happy; and on your non-comedic films like Lured, The Dark Corner, The Big Street etc. wow great dramatic actress too. Lucy, thanks for everything!
My two absolute favorite Hollywood icons of all time! I'm a huge Carol fan. One day in High School I cut school and stayed home doing nothing...reading...watching Andy Griffith...watching Carol Burnett Show. Then the next day I want to drama class and everyone was talking about "Yesterday when Carol Burnett came." Carol came to our drama class and spent the ENTIRE DAY playing improve games and doing skits while I was cutting school. I still wince when I think of that.
Lucille Ball was very fond of Carol Burnett. And they worked together often on each other's TV series' and specials. Probably next only to her own daugther, Lucie Arnaz, Burnett was Lucy's greatest protege. Burnett said Lucy never failed to send her flowers on her birthday, and even on the day Lucy died (which, coincidentally, happened to be on Burnett's birthday), Carol still received the flowers. It must have been one of the last things Lucy did, sending Burnett her birthday bouquet.
Lucie Arnaz related on TV once that when Carol had a baby shower, all the women AND MEN attended, including Lucy's husband Gary Morton. Gary would make jokes about each of the shower gifts.
I miss Lucy so much as well as Bea Arthur and many more. I will feel the same way when Carol passess away. I can't believe how old Carol is already. Shows us how fast time really goes. Make each day count and memorable. Cheers. :)
omg! This is one of the most hilarious things I ever saw. I'm literally in tears laughing. I love seeing them together. They're both hilarious, but Lucy will always be the best ♥
PAHAHAHAHA! How is it I am simultaneously entertained and pissed off? Hahaha! I would have been like "Sorry about your butt-hurt feelings but screw off, I'm not missing my vacation!"
There was a standing order every year from Lucy for Carol to receive the flowers on her birthday. Lucy, by chance, died on Carol's birthday, but the order was still delivered. I'm sure someone cancelled the order for Lucy and Carol. I think Carol said Lucy died in the morning and she received the flowers that afternoon.
Omg I’m Lucy’s #1 fan since I was 5! My fave Lucy show eps are when Carol is her roommate. Lucy and Carol had great chemistry & a long loving friendship. My fave redheads 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
The Official Second Season Of "The Lucy Show", Lucy's second series, is being released on DVD July 13, 2010! So everyone go out and buy it so that the third season is released quickly!
Yes, you're correct about this, as I have read about the situation in books about Lucille Ball and Desilu. But also, one may simply hear Lucy in other venues (such as in films or Ball's appearances on TV game shows) before AND during the same time period as "I Love Lucy," and Lucy's voice was discernably lower than her "Lucy Ricardo" character even then.
Two of the biggest television stars of their respective eras--Lucille Ball & Bea Arthur--actually had similar, lower-than-normal-for-female voices, at least by the age of 40. The difference is Arthur didn't need to project innocent, as "Vera Charles," "Maude Findlay," or as "Dorothy Zbornak," which were Arthur's most well-known roles. But because of Lucy's TV character's antics, presenting as an innocent was one method by which to endear her, rather than make her obnoxious to the TV audience.
A lot of Lucy's lower voice as she got older was due to her constant smoking! On I Love Lucy she was able to use her "little girl" voice, especially in the earlier episodes, but once she got to the Lucy Show and Here's Lucy years, her register got a lot deeper.
5:50 This might be a bit confusing, but even though she did lie down to get on the baby's level, the baby in the carraige was the other way around. So to the baby she was standing on her head ...
Yes, I heard Carol Burnett say this more than once, that she received the birthday flowers from Lucy later in the day of Lucy's death. I did not realize about the "standing order," though, as Burnett made it sound as if ordering the flowers to be sent as usual was one of Lucy's last acts before her death, not a pre-arranged, automatic transaction.
@typedink It's not the cigarettes...or it's not just that...Lucy never had proper vocal training...that high-pitched voice you hear on "Lucy" was not hers. She pushed her voice up an octave to make the character sound more innocent. Pushing her voice up an octave, having to project her voice for the studio audience and the mics (which obviously aren't as good as they are now), and the lack of proper vocal training changed her voice over time.
My guess would be Carol informed the family perhaps in paying her respects and they cancelled the order. AS for the florist, it's like a letter going out a bill is due and you've already mailed it in, but the recipient hasn't gotten word to the collector. They were probably just filling the order. the irony is truly that Lucy died on Carol's birthday. It's all very A Tree Grows In Brooklyn, isn't it?
Carol Burnett who is fab is young enough to be Lucille Ball's baby. LB was genius & so many female comediennes have followed in her path of mocking themselves & making us laugh. Julia Louis Dreyfus being one of them.
Evidently the order wasn't cancelled in time, if Carol still received the birthday flowers from Lucille Ball the day Lucy died. Obviously someone must have put an end to this "standing order" by the time of Carol's next birthday, unless Gary Morton and/or Lucy's kids continued the nice custom, to preserve a tradition of their wife/mother in her honor.
I got thinking about it, Carol wanted Lucy to lie down hoping Lucy would ask her to hold her things so that she could then take off in a dead run with it to catch the bus but her plan didn't work.☺
I'm sure it was arranged for flowers to be sent every year on Carol's birthday without Lucy or an aide or an assistant having to call up the florist. Obviously I wouldn't know how that would work. Probably much the same way Joe Dimaggio had the flowers sent to Marilyn Monroe's tomb every year for 20 years, I believe, then he stopped doing it. I doubt he had to make the call every year, but probably decided it best to discontinue it after about two decades. I heard someone else picked it up, .
With her damaged voice, it is certainly doubtful Lucy could have delivered a "Tarzan" yell like Carol Burnett could. Funny and adept at physical comedy though each comedienne was, there were certainly some differences between Carol & Lucy than merely the different shades of their red hairs.
I love Lucy. I love Carol. But this has to be the most annoying, stupid, and interminable comedy sketch I have ever seen. And why in hell doesn't the baby have a name?
If ever my mom is alive, believe me my dear late mom was uneducated, doesn't understand a single word of English, a great admirer of Lucille ball, would come back from Eternity to wire your jaws & teeths separately.
Pure comedic brilliance! Lucy and Carol were like 2 peas in a pod and the best of friends. I'll always love them both.
RIP Lucille Ball

Damn.
Roelandtstorme: That's one of the worst (as in sad) stories I've ever heard. I guess the moral of the story could be: NEVER SKIP SCHOOL!!!
Roelandtstorme That was painful to read
Ouch
Roelandtstorme Now that story would have made a great skit for the show! If only you'd have known... Too funny.
OH, these two together it's pure Comedy perfection! XD
+Daniel Selk agreed!!! they were brilliant

Two comedic geniuses!
Lucy and Carol what a GREAT act!!!
Lucille Ball + Carol Burnett = UNBEATABL TALENT :)))
omg! This is one of the most hilarious things I ever saw. I'm literally in tears laughing. I love seeing them together. They're both hilarious, but Lucy will always be the best ♥
This is Lucy's funniest cruelest video I have ever seen
I LOVE the look on Lucy's face after Carol shakes her!
Two of the greats. Enough said. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜😁😁😁😁

i love these two!

That was all kinds of awesome!!!!
This is so funny! I love them both.
What the sketch would have ended was Lucy doing the iconic whine. Waaaaaaaaaaah!
Happy Holidays everyone Amen Happy New year to you and your family Amen
Whoa! Didn’t see things going in that direction...but shouldn’t expect anything but pure genius!
From Carol Plus Two. Also had Zero Mostel. A great special.
The Official Second Season Of "The Lucy Show", Lucy's second series, is being released on DVD July 13, 2010! So everyone go out and buy it so that the third season is released quickly!

Love the comedy from my childhood. Television shows, who try to be funny today, can't cut it
this is the first time seein this.. WOW funny stuff!
I would have just left, the first time, were I in Lucille's place. I don't play into the craziness of others. It just ends up with two crazy persons.
Awww. My right ear feels left out :-(
I read this was one of Lucy's favorite skits with Carol Burnett
a amazing
😂😂😂😂 this is pure gold

I just watched this scene because I read it in a book. Written by Lee Tannen. A MUST read. It's called. I Loved Lucy, My Friendship with Lucille Ball.
It’s cold. And your warm in. Florida

But if she's lying down in that direction, wouldn't she be standing on her head in the perspective of the baby?

good byeeeeeee babyyy jajajajajja La diosa de la risa I love you Lucy
Notice the difference in Lucy's voice from when shes older to when she did I Love Lucy? All them cigarettes.
I know, it's just terrible. I wish Lucy hadn't smoked at all, she may have lived another 10 years or so. She was 77 when she passed.
AHAHAHAHAHAHA. Love Lucille and Carol!
Well, that escalated quickly...
Lucy channeling Ralph Kramden, LOL !!!!
Oh lord I'm dying! Shows my age and I don't care! This is funny stuff💜
does anyone know what year this was?
My guess would be Carol informed the family perhaps in paying her respects and they cancelled the order. AS for the florist, it's like a letter going out a bill is due and you've already mailed it in, but the recipient hasn't gotten word to the collector. They were probably just filling the order.

Well. This certainly explains why so many adults today are screwed up.
Who is NOT a fan of Lucille Ball? Those line up for the loony bin pls.

goodbye baby! lmao!
Surpasses comedys of nowadays
😍😍😍😍💙💙💙💙💙😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🌹
I agree. But might we also add Gracie Allen, Bea Arthur, Fran Drescher, and Betty White to this short list?
Did you honestly just list Fran Drescher in there amongst the great comediennes???
I got thinking about it, Carol wanted Lucy to lie down hoping Lucy would ask her to hold her things so that she could then take off in a dead run with it to catch the bus but her plan didn't work.☺
LOL!
Wow, honestly, skit is not far from a skit between my own sister and me. It starts small then its a mountain of "huh?"!
arol Burnett works with the best of them, Lucy, harvey, tim, julie.....it goes on.
poor lucy's voice is wrecked from all the smoking she did :'(
Lol this is me 🤪🤪🤪😂😂😂😂
oh nooo lol carol is crazy lol Lucy lol lol so mean lol
Sit & rotate on that thumb, I'm going on vacation, good bye baby!!!
I'm sure it was arranged for flowers to be sent every year on Carol's birthday without Lucy or an aide or an assistant having to call up the florist. Obviously I wouldn't know how that would work. why is seeing a baby saying goodbye so important?
I think the point of this sketch could have been made in half the time.
With her damaged voice, it is certainly doubtful Lucy could have delivered a "Tarzan" yell like Carol Burnett could.
Funny and adept at physical comedy though each comedienne was, there were certainly some differences between Carol & Lucy than merely the different shades of their red hairs.
8 months old baby lied on lucille???
@gridsgobackagain
Carol Burnett?! nooo way they look nothing alike, both have big noses but..
that lady with a short hair just looks like lady gaga! lol..
Lucille Ball was rather pretty. Was "Baby" a boy or a girl?
A boy.
4:33 "Watch him now."
good chemistry, stupid script.
So that’s what happened to Machine Gun Kelly.
Carol is funny??
I love Lucy. I love Carol. But this has to be the most annoying, stupid, and interminable comedy sketch I have ever seen. And why in hell doesn't the baby have a name?
I think that it was intended to be a part of the comedy but who knows?
I didn't like this, was too freaking annoying!
L
Odd sketch to me...I barely chuckled...too long as well...they gave it 110% though.. comedy is personal I guess...the audience is howling..
Ball was a jerk in real life.... but then most comedic actors are jerks.
If ever my mom is alive, believe me my dear late mom was uneducated, doesn't understand a single word of English, a great admirer of Lucille ball, would come back from Eternity to wire your jaws & teeths separately.
mmmmm....not so sure about that, mate....
This was awful, considering you have two wonderful comedians!
