The drama was intense, the suspense at times unbearable, the culinary cunning most intriguing. Hats off once again to an enjoyable look into the daily life of one of England's most undiscovered entertainment assets!
The question everyone's asking themselves is are we getting a "can you cook a full Christmas dinner in a van" this year? I know it's April but it may be prudent to start planning early for that one.
Congratulations !!!!. There's not too many people who could produce an interesting and intriguing video of a weekend in a car park, well done David. Thanks for sharing, take care, Cheers.
RATS! You beat me to it! I was going to tell David to get himself a dog and name it Grommet! Still a good idea! If they ever restart the W&G series, David is a shoo-in for Wallace!
About three weeks ago, the algorithm suggested I'd like this video. I follow Cruising The Cut for 9 months now. And that dude on the thumbnail, I swear, was looking just like that dude living on that narrow boat. So I gave it a click. I ended up binge watching your whole series of vlogs from the very beginning. Besides being entertaining, what you're doing is very inspiring. It's encouraging me stepping into the same direcction. To my surprise the conversion is no rocket science. The vlogs about the conversion gave me faith that I could do that. The vlogs about your journeys promissed my that it will be worth it. I'm a single dad of an 7 y.o. and thinking about how this opens up the world for the both of us in a very new way. I love your vids. You're doing a great job and it's far beyond just blogging. It's inspring. Thank you for sharing.
For the water line, you can buy those U-shape thingies for the water outlet of washing machines for just a few pounds. Maybe one of those on the water line between water tank and tap? The shelf you punt the bread on, if you make a horizontal bar to put in front off you could use it to store some thing (like your bread and other groceries) while driving. If you are worried about any fluid spillage on the flour (i.e. the extra water tank, you can always put in an additional plastic layer on the bottom of the compartment which covers a few inches of the sides to (like a little bathtub). An easy and cheap solution for this is to use a garbage bag.
A completely charming and relaxing video David. Great to watch you having a lovely time after such a dire year. I admit I did rush out to the family in another room and say " David is having Coco Pops for breakfast!!". Teenage daughters were very supportive :-)
When I was seven I spent my first night alone in a tent in my backyard. It was thrilling: cat's meowing, dogs barking, coyotes howling, distant trains, the wind, strange people calling to each other across the backyards of the rowhomes, rustling trees and shrubs, animal noises and footsteps...I remember like it was yesterday and this was in the mid 1950's. I have heard and felt these things since then in many campsites but who can forget their first thrilling solo campout?
Ohhh, I didn't noticed! Though I am Swedish, so it's harder to get the nuances in the writing. But, in my own language, I use semicolons as often as I can, and I cherish and try to promote them all the time! 💖 ; 💖
I think you've made a fantastic job of the camper David :) much better than a lot of these "This is ow yer doit mate" types. Plus you're a relaxing tonic in these stressful times :) Much appreciated.
Your cooking skills reaching astonishing levels....its nearly gourmet cooking🤔 Absolutely love the way you at humor in to yre vlogs, David. It refreshing to watch 🤩
When you first started the boat channel, you mentioned your cooking skills were limited to heating up cans of soup. Now you’re frying up sausages! My how you’ve improved!
I have a question or maybe a suggestion for a video. It’s been 5 years on a boat and 3 years of van life. What’s the pros and cons of your nomad lifestyle. What do you miss the most and what have been the plus... anyway thanks for sharing. ✌🏻👍🏻🇨🇦
I got to say again, I really do love the brilliant design of your little cupboards. The way the flip up doors accommodates the uneven ceiling is really cleaner. I do think they are brilliant.
Oh, David, your anxiety-inducing videos are almost too much to bear! Just 59 seconds into the segment, I had to suffer through long seconds of dread as you opened your can of soup ONE HANDED and barely an INCH from the edge of the countertop! O, the humanity! What if you had slipped? Soup everywhere! Needless to say, I have recovered. A couple of deep breaths and my heart rate has dropped. Seriously, this is such a good example of making lemonade when life hands you lemons. It looked like a delightful weekend, but I bet you're glad to be home aboard the narrowboat where you can get a GOOD, HOT shower. Thanks for all your good humor.
While still owning a 'stick' house, we had converted our small pickup into a camping unit. To try it out, we 'camped' in our garage for one night. What an adventure!
Kind of nice to see how other people do their lockdown holidays :) Enjoy your van. I believe that the order you give your household does really mostly depend on personal preferences - be it the household in a house, a boat or a van. In a van the size of yours, there is the additional bonus that whatever you want to reach, most of the stuff is at arms length from your sofa/bed anyway. So, as long as you know where things are, it’s probably all right. I hope you will be able to enjoy many more weekends and holidays in your van - perhaps even with a bit more of a journey there and back!
In the PC watercooling domain, sometimes hose kinking is solved by using what's caused an anti-kink coil, a spiral of plastic that goes around the hose to help it keep it's shape.
Wait... waiiiiiit... You made water hot, put pasta in it until softened, fried some sausages at the same time, tipped the water out, stuck the sauce and fried sausages in, gave that a stir and ate that rather tasty looking meal... You cooked?! Other than that rather shocking revelation, this was a masterful video, very enjoyable to watch! Well done.
It's amazing how the universe sometimes shows up and hands you exactly what you need at the moment, for instance a Census worker (who happens to follow your channel) producing the exact paperwork you need at that time. I just love little happy surprises like this, and try to appreciate them each time they happen.
Thanks for a great traveling show, and all in lockdown. Don't worry about the storage space, once you've packed the scuba gear and jet pack it will all be full.
New to your channel, the suspense and anticipation of something happening is simply fantastic. That twinned great narration has convinced me to subscribe...
Always get a giggle from your video’s David, so glad to see your mods to the toilet to prevent roundabout misshaps....lol Keep up the good work mate, chat ya later..... Jack n Steve
Your story about the census reminds of when I was flogging them there fruit-flavoured computers for a living. I had a regular customer - a well-known TV director - who lived on a houseboat on the Thames. His address was 'HB [Name of Boat], XYZ Marina, etc'. We kept getting his packages back, marked 'House not found'. Eventually, by trial and error, we had to amend his address to 'Houseboat [Name of Boat], N.B. This is a boat, you'll find it floating on the water, XYZ Marina, etc'. The parcel returns stopped.
The dented soup tin out of the bargain bin, was the highlight for me. One tip I might suggest, is, don't look out of the window in the morning, or you'll have nothing to do in the afternoon.
We (2 Seniors in San Diego CA) also binge watched your whole narrowboat series of videos, and absolutely loved them. We live in California, but did visit UK relatives in 2008. At that time we spent 9 days doing the Kennet and Avon locks and area in a narrowboat, that at one point had 7 people on board. It was an adventure we will always remember and love. And, with your series, it was so helpful during the lockdown here in CA. Then we went to see your Vandemonium site...and enjoyed all of those as well. WE LOVED YOUR TRIP TO WALES. And very much enjoyed New Zealand. We did hear on another site, how stressful it was for you to get back home when the lock down started. So...just to say we hope that you will continue to share your life journeys. We will watch. Thank you for doing it. And, we like Sebastiao Burnay's idea of the tolilet paper hanger inside/front/middle. Cheers!
Hi David. First followed all your exploits on "Cruising the Cut" channel, having narrowboated in the past. We are now caravanners, but have had a motorhome, so "Vandemonium" is now an obvious additional choice for us. Loved the camping weekend in the car park and the whole theme and style really made us smile. Keep 'em coming. Cheers - George and Trish, the Caravanning Macs.
This is my first Vandemonium vlog, and, I must say, van life is a lot different than narrowboat life. The van actually makes your narrowboat look quite roomy! I still enjoyed the vlog, and look forward to starting at #1 and working my way upwards. A silly question - what is your favorite tea?
A small storage box that hangs on the outside of a back door is handy for rubbish bags. Rubbish can accumulate quite quickly over several days away and some remote scenic locations have nowhere to dispose of them. I put full bags in mine keeping them until I find a bin. It helps to keep fly's and wasps along with smells out of my van. I keep fire lighters and charcoal for a barbeque in this box too, wasps and fly's don't like the smell lol. I have a foldaway barbeque that's lightweight that fits easily with everything else. Just an idea that might work well for you, especially in summer heat as waste food tins and drink cans draw fly's and wasps. Good video David 👍 Oh' No need for a loo roll holder as it will probably get in the way of something at some point, Simply place it on the shelf beside you when you plan to use it. My bathroom at home has no good place for one so that's how we roll 🤣 Shhhh, my van does have one, I've used the clothes rail above the toilet to hang it; I stand up and turn around as I would normally do anyway 👀
At last! The gripping conclusion! You have proven that real adventure is a mindset, not a destination. Thank you for making this fabulous camping vlog! Idea: cut an opening, post slot style, in the vertical wall of the storage space next to the loo. Install a container on the inside to receive the trash. Bag liners in a box of any sort would work fine. Easy use but out of the way. Protects hanging jackets from leaky messes. Dusting mop could sit next to trash bin. Love the new cupboards and the clever door locks are brilliant!
The beauty of your own camper build David is its made to how you want it and you are not confirming to someone else's design. Also that tin of soup looked good guess what I am having for lunch.
I'm watching this on my break, sitting in my motorhome in the work carpark. I'm impressed by your one-handed can opening skills and organised layout. If your layout works for you, then don't change. Don't fix it if it's not broken 😉 I received my Ridgemonkey, but haven't used it. I've ordered the gas oven and understand you're tight on space. I've no idea where I'm going to put it! I like your netting and will look for those myself. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to overnight in the work carpark, so I've to find somewhere safe to park up for the night. Thanks for the video! Take care and stay safe!
Watching you eating boiled eggs held in the egg carton then eating soup from the saucepan reminded me of a friend on the campsite who goes one better than you, he heats soup or tins of beans whilst still in the tin and eats directly from the tin. Washing up reduced purely to a spoon, knowing him though he probably saved on the washing up by licking the spoon clean.
When I had my old transit campervan I had a metal ammo box fitted onto the exhaust manifold, into this potatoes would go, almost two hours of driving was more than enough to cook a jacket tattie. Occasionally I would put a home made loaf into it, 20 minutes down the road would produce a nice fresh loaf, and it would take 5 minutes to make a toasted cheese sarnie. This would work out well on trips to the coast so that freshly cooked hot food would be ready for when we arrived, traffic jams meant burned food.
Well David you know me I'd say if you got it set up, the van, the way you want it. Then it's alright by me....... 👍 You looked relaxed & waiting for people to come around so you could show off your handy work you done on the van. I hope you got to do that. If not, it'll be alright. Summer be here in no time & you'd be wishing for no more people to come around so you could just relax & read your kindle......... lol........ I think your little van is perfect. It fits you well. Great job & remodeling it. It's you, perfect..... Take care & be safe, Chris from Missouri
I was quite concerned for your wellbeing when you brought out the soup for your first lunch. It was good to see you feeling better and having the cheese sandwich for the second lunch.
Thanks David, your "YUMMI" really made me laugh, because I rememberd my (and my wifes) camping in an old Station Waggon in Italy, 47 years ago, my meals have never been yummy as far as i remember, but the scenery was worth it !!
Plumbing supply outlets sell springs of different diameters and 6-10 inches in length that are used to bend copper tubing without causing kinks. Put one of these springs over the kink in your water line and it should prevent it from kinking while still allowing it to bend.
Exactly what I was thinking of. However, the ones I have have are made for fairly narrow diameter copper pipe. If you can find some sort of spring at your hardware store that fits snugly over that pipe, that should prevent "the kinks".
Good to see you using the van after all the hard work. Suggestion. When I go a few days camping I precook the pasta at home, let cool and put in zip lock bag. Boil water and blanch for 2 mins, less time and less gas used.
Yeah it was like fingernails scraping down a blackboard for me watching that part lol. I purchased plastic utilities for stirring and flipping food in my van but unfortunately I purchased rubbish. Mine are too flimsy from a bargain basement shop, I thought lightweight was a good idea 😆 If you read this Vandemonium don't make my mistake, get some stubby but good quality ones 🙄😂.
A film on the iPad! One of our favorite past times. We are keeping up with “All Creatures Great and Small”. That is a tasty looking supper. Now tell us all what your coat thinks about being hung with the trash? Does the coat feel the neighborhood is going down hill?
Your voice is ideal at narration surprised TV channels haven't snapped you up for voice-overs, especially as you have no script. Well Done. Very interesting
Hello from Florida, David. Thank you for sharing your exciting weekend at the car park! I did have a few thoughts about your van set up, since you requested some. To save your self from attempting an Olympian dive into the front of the van, most headrests are removable and you could stow said headrest in the back until it is needed for a second passenger. I did that in my Honda Accord's middle backseat headrest (mainly because it blocked my short-self's view out the back window). In relation to your toilet roll placement. what about a vertical roll holder on a weighted base in the neighboring (now empty) compartment. It could hold 1 or 2 spares and would be handy. I know the compartment walls are thin and unable to hold screws. Overall, I think your build is very creative and super successful! When one watches a youtuber for any length of time, it becomes tempting to think that you "know", them. one person's solution is seldom another's solution. That said, I think your setup seem to fit what I have seen of your style in your narrowboat. Organized, orderly, non-frilly, etc. I really think you've done a fantastic job on your cabinetry. The dark stain reminds me of the woodwork on the older wooden motorboats of the 1940's thru the 1960's. Very posh, but in the nicest way! That's it, no more! I'm sure there are other comments you will wish to peruse! Stay safe over there!
Really enjoyed this video, very entertaining as always. We are very impressed with the way you have organised everything. We watched you when you were first making all your cupboards etc good. We have been following your vlogs for quite a while now and love your sense of humour. Been catching up on your Cruising the cut Parts 1, 2 and 3. Well! won't delay you any longer from your long trip home to the boat. 😂😂 . Dave and Sue
I love following your van adventures as much as your narrowboat ones! I’m a fulltime RVer in the states, currently in the deserts of Arizona. Your camper van is splendid!!
This dogging lark appears to involve significantly more eating than I expected! Disappointed that there was not a single sighting of canis familiaris anywhere. > insert references to "little willies" and "floppy hoses" here
Not sure a mouse wouldn’t gnaw your plastic boxes. We had bird food in a similar box in the shed. A mouse had chewed through the plastic & there was food all over the shed floor along with chewed up plastic. Now stored in tin containers (the bird food, not the mouse).
Thanks for the van tour. You are really well fitted out. Your little adventure makes me nostalgic for the years of camping fun I had with my family growing up. Keep safe and well Gloria 🐂
14:00 put a plastic bin under the water bottles, both the fresh and graywater ones and the extra one next to the battery, that way if there are any leaks it will leak into a plastic bin that can be lifted out and dumped outside and not mess anything up (or at least some of it the water since it would need to be a tall bin to hold all the water
Next to the loo compartment you could also have a couple of magazines or books along with the toilet rolls. While your sitting you could catch up on your reading. You're welcome, lol.
Thanks for some very entertaining videos! Our water bottle (like yours) leaked the very first night we camped in our small van. A slow leak soaked under the flooring, the dog's bed, the dog, the carpets, in the cupboards and slowly soaked into the marine ply cupboards which later all bubbled up from being damp. It was a mess but our converter ppl replaced it all as the bottle was faulty. The second time we camped the pipe flew off the tap join just due to the pump pressure (it's a stupid and inadequate style of join that we have since screwed in and superglued) and was spraying water into the electrics that are at the top of the cupboard :-( The water bottle is now in a black bin liner - to catch any leaks and keep the whole thing dark (to stop algae growing) and we are still working on a cover for the electrics that will stay put incase the tap pipe flies off again.
The drama was intense, the suspense at times unbearable, the culinary cunning most intriguing. Hats off once again to an enjoyable look into the daily life of one of England's most undiscovered entertainment assets!
Better than the BBC ☺
Vandeminium is like Ivor the Engine. It starts, nothing much happens but the voice is soothing. Then it ends.
Yes! Nothing happens, that’s exactly it
One handed can opening skills = 10/10
The pasta looked yummy too
My god, I've genuinely been on the edge of my seat waiting for this
This guy is hilarious, i love it. Why make extra washing... just how I think

Marvelous idea 👍
He's on the canal ducks are free or even better a Canadian Goose! One of those swines bit me once could do with payback 🙄
We can't shoot Canadian geese in the US. They just stick around and mess up the walls and grass in parks
There is a very simple answer: no

When you go back to your boat it's going to seem like a wide beam after your camper. Nice van set up :)
When you say cheese sandwich, I get a real Wallace and Grommet vibe.

When you graduate to eating the soup out of its original can cold is when you know you have officially become a pro level van dweller. #vanLife
My very favourite part of 'Vandemonium' is when you show the next culinary treat you are having for your next meal!!

Shhhh, my van does have one, I've used the clothes rail above the toilet to hang it; I stand up and turn around as I would normally do anyway 👀
Tie strap a piece of wire coat hanger to the pipe shaped how you want it, the wire will hold the pipe in place.
I like that bin idea!
Thanks greenspiritarts. Everything seems well appointed except for the trash. Great video vandemonium David.
Some tins have an inner plastic coating though
You looked relaxed & waiting for people to come around so you could show off your handy work you done on the van. I hope you got to do that. If not, it'll be alright.
Summer be here in no time & you'd be wishing for no more people to come around so you could just relax & read your kindle......... lol........
I think your little van is perfect. It fits you well. Great job & remodeling it. It's you, perfect.....
Take care & be safe,
Chris from Missouri
I was quite concerned for your wellbeing when you brought out the soup for your first lunch. It was good to see you feeling better and having the cheese sandwich for the second lunch.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
You always make me smile. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. You are such a talented person. 🤗
“The drama continues..... “ 😂😂😂😂 David, you crack me up 😆 😆😆
Thanks David, your "YUMMI" really made me laugh, because I rememberd my (and my wifes) camping in an old Station Waggon in Italy, 47 years ago, my meals have never been yummy as far as i remember, but the scenery was worth it !!
I was quite gratified with the cheese sandwich and tomato lunch near the end. No vlog of yours would be complete without it! LOL
my favorite bit was when you tried to fill out the census
Good to see you using the van after all the hard work. Suggestion. When I go a few days camping I precook the pasta at home, let cool and put in zip lock bag. Boil water and blanch for 2 mins, less time and less gas used.
I did not know you could do that! Good tip.
I’m not sure why, but “a black case in a dark space” sounds poetic.
I’m a poet
And I don’t know it

Except for my toes,
And they show it...
They’re Longfellows!
I grew up with that one too!
Perfect layout
Just brilliant!!, love your sense of humour David 😆🤣😊
Thank you Christine :-)
British humour is very subtle, one has to pay close attention.
I do like your tea ethic David!
Gold Bars - Always knew you were a man of impeccable taste!
Best camper series on UA-cam. Excellent presentation, love your down to earth approach. Keep ‘em coming. Jeff
D..A..V..I..D.. you naughty boy. metal spoon in a none stick pan .. WHAT ARE YOU LIKE ... lolololol
I knew someone would pick up on that!
What a wonderfully relaxing and therapeutically enjoyable video. Watched on a Friday night over a couple of beers!
A film on the iPad! One of our favorite past times. We are keeping up with “All Creatures Great and Small”. That is a tasty looking supper. Now tell us all what your coat thinks about being hung with the trash? Does the coat feel the neighborhood is going down hill?
lol, or maybe the trash is moving up town!
Love ur vids, u r voice is so relaxing🚙
I love following your van adventures as much as your narrowboat ones! I’m a fulltime RVer in the states, currently in the deserts of Arizona. Your camper van is splendid!!
This dogging lark appears to involve significantly more eating than I expected!
Disappointed that there was not a single sighting of canis familiaris anywhere.
> insert references to "little willies" and "floppy hoses" here
Thanks David! Well done video. Looking forward to your next project. Cheers from the USA!
You have done quite an impressive job in building out and setting up your camper van! Now to have fun in it!
I always end up pausing the vlog each time you mention tea, and I go make a cup. I do enjoy your vlogs whatever you are doing.
That makes me SO happy I filled in the census 3 weeks early.
Good to see the reduced stickers. You make me chuckle. The layout of the van looks well thought out. Everything is organised. Toodle pip. ilona
Not sure a mouse wouldn’t gnaw your plastic boxes. We had bird food in a similar box in the shed. A mouse had chewed through the plastic & there was food all over the shed floor along with chewed up plastic. Now stored in tin containers (the bird food, not the mouse).
You are right. A mouse would chew right through the plastic if he wanted what was inside.
Thanks for the van tour. You are really well fitted out. Your little adventure makes me nostalgic for the years of camping fun I had with my family growing up. Keep safe and well Gloria 🐂
Your diet is impeccable !!!
Nowadays, don't you take the phone with you? 😊🤭🤫🥴
How do you have time for a magazine, books or a phone while pooping? Less than two minutes isn't enough for anything!
The second time we camped the pipe flew off the tap join just due to the pump pressure (it's a stupid and inadequate style of join that we have since screwed in and superglued) and was spraying water into the electrics that are at the top of the cupboard :-(
The water bottle is now in a black bin liner - to catch any leaks and keep the whole thing dark (to stop algae growing) and we are still working on a cover for the electrics that will stay put incase the tap pipe flies off again.
Glad you enjoy the videos, thank you! Good tips about the water etc
I love those coat hooks, they look like drunk Octopus' trying to start a fight with you 8:03
Absolutely hilarious, your delivery of speech could win you Oscar, the climax was a mention of cheese, thanks very funny Nicola 💐
