- A Chula Vista firefighter who was cuffed by the California Highway Patrol at an accident scene says he was humiliated inside the CHP cruiser.
the paramedic was 100% right and the officer should be fired
The cop had better hope he is never in need of the EMS services.
Not a paramedic. It matters.
The thing here is that the firefighter gave a really good reason to park his vehicle there, in order to protect the ambulance. On the other hand based on the state, the cop didn't commit anything wrong because laws are made like that. In legal paper terms, I couldn't blame anyone, but in a human term, I can totally say the cop is a duchebag
That cop is a Fucking joke if I was a paramedic And if this cop was involved in a serious accident and if was bastard I would walk up And say Have a nice day And Walk Off
Why the fuck dont shit ass cops get there home addresses posted on the internet?!
I asked my friend once what the hardest shittiest part of being a firefighter was...he told me, and I quote "having to deal with cops all day"
And the hardest shittiest part of this cops life is his Boyfriends underwear😍
same working security.
...and, MOST firefighters.
wow, that's sad
I'm a retired fire/paramedic, and conflict with law enforcement is so rare that I can only recall a couple of negative incidents. Both times it was with CHP officers I was unfamiliar with, and over the very same issue of opening lanes. I understand their perspective. Too often, one wreck turns into several at the back end of a jam where traffic is stopping suddenly. Their mindset is to clear the lanes, but a few don't seem to realize we have the same objective - to get out of harm's way, but only after we've followed protocols which includes positioning equipment to protect patient and personnel. Our on scene Captains and/or Batt Chiefs were adept at explaining the balance of power in the context of clearing lanes vs. personnel safety and patient care. Fire and EMS are written into the statute of protections under CA PC 243b & 243c, (battery on a peace officer). The moment the CHP officer countermanded established protocol and put his hands on this firefighter during the course of his regular duties, he was in violation of the statute. What's more, if that interference compromised patient care to the detriment of the patient, he's opened himself up to top tier felonies and unlimited civil liability. But overall, I have a high regard for LE. In multi casualty incidents spread across the freeway, not once have I been denied a request to shut down all lanes and shoulders. With only a couple of exceptions, CHP has been great in assisting us, including sending their helicopter when other air units were delayed or unavailable. And our local P.D. - regularly awesome about having our backs, pitching in until more fire units arrive, even effecting rescues before our first units were on scene. It's hard to imagine, "having to deal with cops all day," being an authentically hard part for a firefighter. Most would cite things like pediatric fatalities, grotesque trauma calls, contact with family members when calling for the coroner and conflagrations for days. These things are the hard parts.
"those two people are not my problem" is the perfect explanation of why he's in the wrong line of work
Exactly! He is a public servant smh 🤦♀️
Exactly not someone who should be in that position. Power Trip Ego attitude Problem. He needs an attitude adjustment. If he does that to total strangers there to serve the community.. what does he do to people he knows or worse to family if he has any. God bless them and protect them. 🙏🏼
It's sad true
I totally agree with you! He needs to move on to a different job! When he STOPS caring... that puts lives at risk!
Had to watch twice to understand this, so its the police officer who didnt do his work properly 1:18
I'm glad to see this Firefighter hired an Attorney. I'm hoping he filed a complaint with Internal Affairs requesting for a copy of his complaint placed on that ass holes personnel file. This is one of many reasons why the Local Police doesn't like the CHP.

They have no jurisdiction as there is no legislative enactment creating the Department of the CHP.

Very interesting comment did not know that I personally respect police but it’s the chp that pisses me off more then any law enforcement agency and more of their contacts are with innocent people
Just going from work and from point A to pout B and they write a lot of tickets just to show they have purpose but in reality they don’t all they do is harass innocent motorists and hide like a lion and pounce on prey when the moment is right

Nick V how are you typing dumb hick?
No job serving the public; in any capacity. Put him at he landfill if you must . . .
2 days after this happened, I protected an accident scene on I-5 in North San Diego County in the exact same way this Engineer protected his scene. A few minutes after we were on scene, a CHP parked directly behind me. The officer walked towards me and I held both of my arms straight out to him as an offer for him to cuff me too. He lowered his head, shook it and said, “I’m sorry man”. North SD County coastal CHPs were always cool to work with.
Our fire/ems crews and patients ALWAYS came first. My very first action as the engineer driving the engine or truck approaching the scene of an accident was quickly determine how much of a safety zone do I create with my apparatus necessary to protect the scene if someone should slam into my engine.
I know this was years ago but that firefighter has every right to sue.. Firefighter rigs block the road to protect other service personnel and patients.. ffs what an idiot of a cop
I feel like there ought to be laws in place that make it so that when responding to an accident, the authority of the firefighters and EMTs should supersede that of the police. Firefighters exist for the sole purpose of saving lives. Police exist to enforce laws. It's obvious who is more qualified to be giving orders in these situations.
Not quite the case I'm afraid. As a firefighter/paramedic/EMT you aren't law enforcement. Therefore CPH supersedes in this case. They should work together, but clearly that officer has a big ego.
@@Electricalwav What the hell are you talking about? They are the authority in such cases. Police are only supposed to be there to lend assistance with security at the scene.
ABSOLUTELY IN AGREEMENT With You There!
@@Electricalwav Big ego small PeePee thats why they act that way
@@Electricalwav bro your dumb if you think police officers take control at an accident, what can the police officer do to help, nothing because they are useless in this type of situation, that’s why the firefighter cap is in charge and the police are out on the road controlling traffic
“Someone’s dying flipped upside down?? How dare you park here *arrested* ” this Chp needs to be fired
My husband was arrested one night for complete bullsh*t. He was handcuffed with a broken wrist. He told the cops abt his broken wrist and asked them to loosen the cuffs. Instead, the outright called him a p*ssy and told him to "stop crying about it". It exasperated the injury and he still has problems bc of it years later.
"This was an isolated incident". As were all the others!
If only it was an isolated incident! Where do they find these dangerous imbeciles???

I just dont understand how anyone could possibly side with this cop
“Those two people are not my problem” cops saying the quiet part out loud.
Officer Florez needs to watch out if he gets called to assist the fire department, because on occasion, fire hoses have been known to go crazy and get out of control. Hope you don't get an unexpected shower!!
Officer Florez made up his own law and enforced it, right on the spot! Clever boy!
What would happen in a hypothetical if because a police officer arrested a firefighter trying to save someone’s life, and in consequence that they didn’t have one more helping hand or that particular firefighter’s skills/experience the patient died?
Officer Flores is a disgrace and a liability. I hope he got fired and sued.
Sounds like piggy piggy couldn't cut it as a firefighter and is now holding some sort of weird grudge.
Polish Sausage his wife cheated on him with a real man
I'm not prejudice, I hate everyone equally LMAO!!
Wtf are you on about?
This is why i left the police Dept, and became a Firefighter for 31 years. Fierfighters CARE about everyone. ALL LIVES MATTER
When you can’t get into a fire department
Good on him for speaking out against these cowards.
Where can I find updates?
Back in the 1980's I rode along with many CHP officers on patrol, and found them very professional, polite and not at all power-crazy. All their road-side enforcement stops were extremely well conducted. I observed back then mutual respect between the offender and the officer. Also attended a number of crashes with Fire in attendance. Non of this garbage occurred..
I don't believe Officer Flores should remain in the CHP. No wonder they have gone down in the public's estimation. Sad times.
That guy Flores has one of the worst Power Trip Egos. He needs to read "Ego is the enemy."
They're a law unto them selves, Firefighters in comparison will always be hailed as heroes and not bully cowards.
"Those two people are not my problem" ...those should've been his parting words from CHP and any future public service.
He’s lucky he made it out of that situation with the police with his life, many aren’t so lucky.
The firefighter in cuffs is my hero
Makes you understand why people want to defund the police
I hope the firefighter WINS shamefull chp !!!!!-
I would have fired that officer the second i heard the news
The officer that did that is not scared of Fire Men... The Cop knows he has to watch his back for a long time in the (United States).
I guessi if I were firefighters, I would just ignore any requests from the CHP until the cop is removed from his job. Firemen don't need cops, but the reverse is not true.
"Those two people are not my problem!"
Those words should disqualify that jerk from EVER working as a public servant again!
Sounds like the cop had mad attitude and lack of common sense.
If I’m the firefighter I will sue the police department. Fire the cop too.
Thank the firefighter for speaking up!
In AZ drug allergies turned into a mess unable to fix nor can I get appropriate medical treatment due to the conspiring. 12-3-2011, refused to let me speak, every agency & employee.
Most the doctors do not even realize I was have server life threatening throat closing drug reactions. My throat hurts so bad everyday. The police had bunch of laughs serval times and seen them mock a dehydrated men as he died.
Horrible situation displaying HUGE Ignorance on the part of the CHP officer. In my 28+ years as a LEO, we ALWAYS worked hand in hand with ANY Fire Fighters, Rescue, Ambulance, etc. teams at ANY type of Emergency call. The Fire folks work very diligently to make sure a scene is safe and when it is a crash on a Highway, their Big, Heavy Fire rigs provide a barrier and are the potentially Sacrificial Lambs to prevent injury to ALL Emergency staff on scene in the event of a inattentive driver crashing into the scene..
Sue the shit out of them!
COP NEEDS TO BE FIRED FINED AND NEVER ALLOWED IN A ROLE OF AUTHORITY EVER
9 years later and California is an even bigger dumpster fire. 😂😂😂
We block lanes in SC too, responder and patient care is #1 and that truck provides a barrier
Major ego battle, the Trooper needs to be suspended, fined, and sued.
All those involved in the car accident should also sue the this officer and also demand that he be charged with the crime of reckless endangerment in the first degree, otherwise known as depraved indifference. He put many lives at risk by delaying crucial and potentially life saving medical care, and he needs to be held responsible.
This cop recently 'retired'. A stain on the department.
The officer said that those two people injured are not is priority. This is officer must never work for any agency is a danger to public.
Disgraceful shame to the police department there no wonder cops are called pigs thats firefighter should sue and should tell the wannabe try hard that if he ever gets a cell for his help the fire department will be unavailable
"To serve and PROTECT" you remember that part!
The cops are all in it together and all should be arrested and charged.
That cop is a joke
In the UK cops will park like the fire truck to help keep everyone safe and emergency departments work together.
The CHP officer has a SDS syndrome😂😂😂😂
safety of the crews and victims are priorty and a buffer vehicle especially in a HIGH SPEED VOLUME LANES AT NIGHT that cop was way way out of line and his rambo attuitude shows the lack of respect for others and the old saw....YOU WILL RESPECT MY AUTHORITA.....
It's a lack of respect for the sister agency,I never thought that they had this much of beef
He should take action by putting handcuffs on him was a big disrespect to the ones who really save n protect the community 🙏😥
Lmao dismiss that cop, that was some top notch police discretion right there
And cops wonder why we respect firefighters and ems more.
And that cop won't ever get fire department help again.
Sue both departments...
Unbelievable. Too much ego and not enough common sense. 🤦♂️
Imagine what the CHP does to regular citizens if this is what they’re doing to firefighters. They think they’re above the law.
Fire that CHP officer! He is a disgrace to public service.
I hope the officer was dealt with by the community. Personally.
That CHP better hope that he never needs the fire department for anything!!! Hopefully they will say it’s not there problem 😮
CHP officer has an axe to grind as this is his second run-in with fire departments. Fire Department should not argue but comply to CHP'S order. The CHP has authority on the highwat NOT the fire department !!!!!!
I hope you sued the crap out of the CHP department and I hope they sent him to look for another job.. He's a Disgrace to Law enforcement..
It really sucks when emergency vehicles can’t be on the scene of an accident. So if the firefighter needed equipment from his truck he would have to walk all the way over to his truck that’s off the highway and back over to the crash which in a few cases could lead to a victim of a crash dying.
Florence needs anger management before he kills someone from escalating matters.
I think it speaks to this firefighter's character that he would be willing to drop his lawsuit if a new policy were enacted to prevent this type of incident from happening in the future.
Respect for firefighters. The ego of the police megalomania has reached extraordinary madness.
I watched this in total disbelief, it’s clear to see why Yankee cops are hated so much.
And then the cops wonder why people dislike them
NEXT TIME THEY REQUEST ASSISTANCE FOR ONE OF THEIR OFFICERS DON’T HELP THEM.
Cop needs to be fired. Earning the hate.
If I saw a injured CHP officer on the road, I would keep driving...eff them!!
Put that cop in jail instead!!!! He’s so freaking ridiculous and stupid!!!
Just another example of why, "backing the blue" is no longer an option!!!
Sounds like Flores's first choice was firefighting but he couldn't cut it and now he's salty behind it.
Medical personnel are ALWAYS in charge at a car collision. ALWAYS! I know because I’m an ER doc and teach paramedics and firefighters.
Is there a follow up on this. This happened years ago.
I very much appreciate stated that have written into statute a criminal offense for interfering with EMS and fire as well. I’ve called state law enforcement on deputies that overstepped the bounds of their authority and responsibility on medical scenes. And I’ll do it again. You will not interfere with patient care. That’s a hill I’m prepared to die on!
If this is how that officer treats fire fighters just imagine how he treats the public.

@@kengagnon1292Don’t forget his dog…
Very very true statement
with the increase of cameras everywhere we don't have to imagine.
@@asmodeus1274 How would a cop even end up in possession of a dog when they shoot them on sight?
I’m a firefighter/paramedic. Working accidents on the highway is by far the most dangerous thing we do routinely. Blocking traffic is essential and the #1 priority, you have to keep the scene safe. Getting traffic moving might be the priority for the police, but it’s not for us.
Having this conflict is nothing new, but we generally have enough respect for each other to work together.
A police officer's priority in this situation should be to ensure the scene is safe for Fire and EMS. That part about "getting traffic moving" is secondary. When the Fire or EMS personnel or the victim they're helping is killed or injured because of police negligence, maybe then the police clown will be made to understand his or her failure to prioritize scene safety. But that shouldn't be how and why they learn to prioritize in their supposedly professional job.
Not if your above the law
@@Havanorange in case of further damage police has immunity. why would they care about ppl? only consequence they suffer from is their conscience (if they have one)

This reminds me of an incident I handled while working. I was on a 911 desk while pregnant for a few months. I dispatched fire trucks multiple times to illegal open burns one day..same person burning plastic trash. Third time out there I sent the sheriff's office also with the firefighters. At that time we did not have county commissions to write citations for illegal burning within our fire department. The deputy in scene stupidly took the radio from my fire captain went over air informing me that he would not write a citation for this noxious burning. I immediately responded to him clearly so all of our units fire, police, deputies across the county who monitored could hear me. Copy that deputy return our radio to my captain and clear our frequency sir. Units on scene be advised that I now have the state police enroute to enforce the law. The burner went to jail. Within two weeks our fire inspectors were commissioned to write citations for illegal burning and related issues. Sometimes stupid people need humiliation to wake up.
No empathy for ambulance exposed to dangerous traffic conditions. No empathy for accident victim lying inside a neck brace in severe pain. No empathy for first responder attempting to assist accident victim. Is this a case of sociopathy or psychopathy on the part of the CHP officer? Should this man still carry lethal weapons since he has openly expressed his complete disregard for human life and safety?

Here in New England, the fire departments do exactly what this firefighter did. The people in the accident are the primary concern. Traffic is secondary.
I'm a truck driver and I deal with delays all the time. This delay because a lane is blocked is at least for a good reason.
So if those people died at the scene, is the CHP prepared to go down for murder? Blatant disregard for human life. Fire the garbage!

They won't. As long as there are bad cops out there to hire, they will be.
Police departments select for low IQ psychopaths. They don't want anyone who's smart or empathetic.
One word central to the issue: EGO. This is a mental disorder, and is extremely dangerous when it is someone with authority. "Those 2 people are not my problem". They were the problem of the man you just illegally detained, thereby removing the one on the scene who is legally authorized, trained and qualified to assist. And the situation with the handcuffs is indicative of the response of a psychopath taunting and torturing his victim. This is where the mental disorder kicks in: Inability to apply logic to a situation when ego has been challenged, and completely devoid of compassion. The fact that this officer does this on a regular basis is indicative of a disorder. Training cannot correct this propensity in these types of people. Unfortunately there seems to be no mechanism in place to screen these types of disorders., resulting in these kinds of incidents. The fact that this officer is a veteran of the dept. is really concerning. It reveals the depth of the problem with the dept. in general, because these types of people operate like this ALL the time, so there is obviously a history of abuse of authority which has not only been hidden, but rewarded.
