Couldn't you just use either a laser printer or a copier that uses toner? Sorry, I'm still learning and trying to understand the process and the purpose for a specialty machine. Thanks!
No, a fax is a thermal printer (thermocopier) . It doesn't use any ink to print, the "color" is already in the paper and is revealed with heat, just like receipts (use a lighter under a receipt and you will see it getting completely dark).
Found this completely by mistake, great use for an old machine.

Hi, do you know how to bypass the “ribbon empty reset or replace” also my fax stopped copying out of nowhere. Nothing happens when I hit copy

No, a fax is a thermal printer (thermocopier) . It doesn't use any ink to print, the "color" is already in the paper and is revealed with heat, just like receipts (use a lighter under a receipt and you will see it getting completely dark).
Some models (I think it's the case for this one) used ink ribbons and transfered ink from the ribbon to the paper you where feeding by using heat.

Yes it's a 575, It is a thermal, it uses the 501 thermal print cartridge.
