  • This is my own recording of a public domain text. It is not copied and I retain the copyright.
    The third and final volume in The Moral Letters to Lucilius. (I've collected them into three volumes because the individual letters were offending the UA-cam algorithm)
    The Moral Letter to Lucilius are a collection of 124 letters which were written by Seneca the Younger at the end of his life, during his retirement, and written after he had worked for the Emperor Nero for fifteen years. (These Moral Letters are the same letters which Tim Ferriss promotes in the Tao of Seneca)

    • @VoxStoica
      @VoxStoica  2 роки тому +11

      Approximately 130 hours.
      [Record + Edit + Video + UA-cam] = is approximately 25:1 work to final length. Bit less for simple things like the letters, a bit more if the video/summary is more detailed.

    Saddened that we're not doing these one at a time. There's little chance for a discussion of individual messages in a compilation like this.
    As for those messages, I have never actively disliked Seneca until "on the consolation of the bereaved." Among its toxic messages, "oh, he was just a kid when he died, you shouldn't be so sad," "you're not actually this sad, you're just looking for attention," and "you shouldn't be sad your kid died: he might have grown up to be a douchebag."
    Not that there are no worthwhile lines or ideas in there, but there's some toxic, myopic nonsense in there too.

    • @PoptartParasol
      @PoptartParasol 2 роки тому +1

      He had one child who died in infancy and never had any other children as far as we know. So, keep in mind that that view is probably influenced by his personal tragedy.
      Knowing this.. I feel more so pity than hate, I guess he never came to terms with it himself.
