We raised Cavies (Guinea Pigs). When the teeth got too long for some reason, we would take a pair of wire cutters and cut the teeth back, so they didn't interfere with eating. We did this numerous times.
This boy reminds me of mine. Not that he had overgrown teeth, god forbid (though, you never know what led to this, sometimes Guinea Pigs are picky eaters, which could lead to this) but he was an albino too. Absolute sweetheart. He didn't really like to be petted because of his rosettes, but he wasn't afraid. When I was able, I would get him out of his cage, put him on a towel on my desk and let him eat what ever I had to give. He was the sweetest and I miss him so very much. He was old, had a stroke and had to be put down, but I'm glad I've had him this long.
That poor baby!!! That's neglect!!! Thanks you for helping these poor little younguns of God. He created them like he did us and they deserve to treated right too! 💜💜💜💜💜

Question would it be better for this guinea pig if you pulled out the tooth that was splitting into multiple t? Because if it's never going to grow back in normal I would think that would become dangerous for the guinea pig
Sheesh, the more I learn about guinea pigs, the more I learn how rough they have it. -5-6 year life span -Can overgrow their teeth -Bottom of the food chain -Can get incredibly upset if not paired with another pig. -Have multiple health problems over time & fast such as Pneumonia. At least there fast reproducers.
Hey Saskia. Thank you for your video. I believe you put a lot of effort in the care of those animals and you have my full respect. However, clipping incisivi of guinea pigs is referred to as malpractice, expeically without any analgesia. Shortening is best done with a cutting disc such as dremel. Spliced incisivi need to be extracted properly by a veterinary dentist. For a proper diagosis and prognosis a dental xray comes in handy. I hope you consider my points next time. Thanks!
The reason why the teeths gets like that. Is because the owner give them to soft food. They need food that is harder to gnaw on. So the teeth wear downs. Give them like carrots or hard cracker/hard rye bread every now and then. The teeth never stop growing. So this will never have to happen. If the vet says otherwise, then they just saying that so that they can earn money on you.
Also one of my female guinea pigs Virgil Anxiety Wheekers wines when ever I or her cage mate my other female guinea pig Nova Estelle Wheekers touches her near her gray or silver colored hip and sometimes she will will even sit with it tucked closer to her body then her other back leg and hip and will even walk with that leg and hip closer to her. She doesn’t make noises when she walks but if it’s touched she wines. She’s fine with me holding her so I don’t think her foot hurts her but when I hold her I try not to hold her to tight near her gray or silver hip but still make sure I’m supporting her the way you are suppose to when you hold guinea pigs. I always make sure my girls feel same when I hold them and that I’m hold like you showed us. I’m hope you can give me some advice on what I can do to help her from home or that you might know what’s wrong with her without me having to take her to the vet because I don’t have guinea pig insurance and I’m live to far away to take her to see you for free before I go to the vet or take her to the vet on a day when the vet you trust is their to look her over after you gave a health check or I could get one from your trusted doctor and hopefully she would charge as much as a normal vet would especially if she found nothing wrong with my girl. This is what I hate about some the vets that we have been to I hate when they don’t really do anything that we didn’t do ourselves and then they charge us a lot of money for it and one even put the wrong name of my guinea pig on her records even though the front desk got her name right when we register her at the front desk since we were new at that vet.
He has a dental disease. My Guinea pig has the same thing, their teeth grow abnormally fast so one day they’ll be short and a few days later they’ll be overgrown or chipped badly. It’s a really hard disease to watch your piggy go through. My Guinea pig fry is going on 10 and I hate seeing him struggle to eat. He’s always on critical care diet, never ending teeth trimming. Some days I’ll check his teeth and a whole tooth will be missing. It makes me want to cry. Atleast they brought the piggy in to take care of it. Some people wouldn’t do the same:(
additionally, besides the trimming his teeth for two years statement, she also says, "so these are never going to grow normal again, and this why i see him a bit, so i can keep up with making his life better." this is not a neglectful owner, this is a dental disease.
