In this video, I show step-by-step instructions about how I treat Hay Pokes. You will see the guinea pigs before and after as well. This is a MUST-watch video so you are prepared when this issue afflicts your furry kid.
Hay Pokes are fairly common since our piglets are prone to run straight into the hay pile you just served with their eyes open. The good news is that these are EASY to fix yourself with over-the-counter medication.

WOW, that was a big piece of hay. From watching my pigs eyes for this and have removed a piece of hay from their eyes and treated it with terramycin. I watch how they eat too etc, and it's because of you that i do these things. My pigs live a good life. Thanks💕🐹🐹

The second piggie was very vocal about how much the hay and the hay seed was hurting her. As soon as you got them out, she didn’t make a peep again!

Aaww such heartbreaking few minutes, but at the same time, I was like: "Don't worry piggies, you're in the best hands, Saskia's gonna take care of you!" So good to se at the end the results of the oitments.

These videos are so helpful. The first haypoke I dealt with, I was prepared with Terramycin because of one of your hay removal videos. Extremely helpful! im probly going to jinx myself but I've been lucky 5yrs and 16 piggies I've only had one hay poke.... I've had a number of other issues and your videos have helped me become a master at things like stone removal (my wallet thanks you for that as ive had 3 different piggies be highly susceptible to bladder stones) but this simple but painful thing I've only had happen once.

l wouldn't be able to use tweezers on my boy as l have tremors but I do use cotton wool water and that works and l put eye drops in she is great 👍 xx

What else is Terramycin used for besides to help heal the eyes from hay pokes? Also I was wondering if you can make another Guinea Pig calendar like the one you that you use to have for sale, because I lost mine. Also I was wondering if you could make some lose fitting guinea pig skirts and some guinea pig sleeves less shirts that are not too tight around the neck chest and sides and stomach.
A warm damp soft cloth gently moved over the lid could have helped.

What an amazing transformation of healing with the hay pokes! Not only informative,but going into detail that if my girls Harriet and Clementine would ever get hay pokes, I know step by step what to do and all the supplies needed. I just need to order the eye lube. Thank you again Saskia!

Thanks to these videos I was actually able to help someone local to me with their guinea pigs hay poke. They didn't have the funds to go to the vet. So I offered to take a look and thankfully it was near the surface.

Their eyes look sore hopefully they make a recovery I don't like seeing them in pain
Their calmness reminds me so much of my late guinea pig Alice. ❤ I had to take her to an emergency vet appointment for a hay poke once, and while we were waiting for the vet in the examination room I put my hand inside the travelling cage to pet her so she wouln't get stressed out, and she just flopped down to her side, stretched out her little back legs like a lil' shrimp, and then cuddled up against my hand 🥹Gosh, I miss her so, so much. ❤
Can you use the pain cream on dogs
Does the eye go back to normal after?? Is the haypoke what caused the opaque eye?
Yes it usually does!
