I once had a boar who was choking on his own boar glue. I had to use a q tip to scoop it out. Gotta love those boys lol.
He was just looking for a good time and glued his mouth shut lol 😝

For anyone wondering, boar glue is Guinea pig ejaculate. "boar" is the name for male Guinea pigs and "glue" because well, it's a lot like glue. It's totally normal, but sometimes it can harden and get stuck where it's not supposed to...

We have found that the pigs really like Vanilla Ensure. It can help keep them healthy while the problem is being fixed if needed. It also is good for the babies. If they are having nutrition problems the Ensure is a great way of helping them.
I swear this baby is tooo darn cute and friendly.

URGENT!! hi saskia can you help me please, I don’t know any other way to reach you and want to hear any advice you have to offer. My Guinea pig, Star, has an infected eye, it’s extremely red and swollen. It’s been like this since Saturday morning, maybe Friday night. We took him to the vet a few days ago and he prescribed some lubricant, pain meds and eye drops that we have been applying every 4hrs (pain med only once a day) but it’s not helping and the eye doesn’t seem to be getting any better. We have another appointment with the vet on Friday but is there anything we can do before that???

He is an old Guinea pig and so he would be less likely to survive sedation for something she can fix herself. She’s very experienced and knows what she’s doing 😊

This is a very good reminder for me that it's important to check the *whole* mouth. I didn't realize something like this could happen so I'm thankful for the knowledge. I already make sure to periodically check in between the front teeth for stuck food thanks to watching Saskia's videos along with so much other important piggie facts and tips. She's one of the reasons I have 2 rescued piggie boys right now and plans to foster for the large rescue a few hours from me when I find a bigger place.
i have a large abby boy i have to check weekly or more often because he get hair stuck in his bottom gums not sure if its his or his cage mate no one ever has bites but he gets a good number stuck in there often

I wish there was more initiative in the guinea pig world for all males to be neutered. If vets would offer discount and pro bono neutering like they do for dogs and cats, then it would get rid of the most gross complications so that males could have forever homes much more easily, and not have to live alone and around other intact males, which is really unnatural for them. They could find homes with females much more easily like they would naturally.

I know the poor little things are so sickly. I've got two girls that are 5 and one has never been unwell whereas the other always seems to be going through something bless her heart. Unfortunately I bought them from a pet shop before I knew much about guineapigs, thank God for this channel because I've learnt everything I know from Saskia and the vets when we go to visit. If I followed the pet shops advice they would still only be eating straw and cabbage... not even Timothy hay. And they certainly didn't explain the first aid and medical needs of guinea pigs.
