    Toolless cylinder swap and adjustable spring tension is incredible.

    • @RobinVerhulstZ
      @RobinVerhulstZ 11 місяців тому

      Not really a new feature (korth/manurhin did those decades ago) but certainly valuable and highly convenient
      imo the doubly adjustable spring tension is more valuable than the toolless cylinder swap outside of a couple of use cases (like when using big ISSF target grips that prevent case ejection or preventing the cylinder screw from walking) since adjusting mainspring and rebound spring weight on a normal S&W requires you to dissamble the gun and replace the springs and change them out until you find a set up that works (but might not work for certain primers)
      whereas the cylinder swap is still silly easy on a S&W style gun (like my MR-73) because you literally just unscrew ONE screw that isn't covered by anything

    • @frankmcdonnell7377
      @frankmcdonnell7377 11 місяців тому

      The new Diamondback has toolless cylinder removal, apples/oranges I know, but my point is there's no real reason why most revolvers can't have both those features, at a fraction of the cost.

      They have a "cheaper" model, the L562 4" for $2,699. I know it's not cheap, but I think the price is fair for what it is and way more realistic for most people than 3,800. Still a lot of money, of course. But I think it's fair for what is is and how it's made.

      Beefed up L frame with the forcing cone/barrel thickness of an N-frame (and also the weight of an N-frame)

      Spohr is not even that expensive though. They have an entry-level model (the L562) for $2,699 or 2,449€ (in Germany) which is fair for a gun of that quality. I was looking into the L562 and the only reason I didn't buy it is because I got an extremely good deal on a used S&W 686 with a perfect trigger job. And the damn thing shoots so good now I can't justify spending more money on a Spohr. But I certainly would've bought Spohr instead of a new 686, which is around 1,500€ in Germany (off the shelf with no tuning)

    It takes a guy from Germany to spell out that MIM trigger parts don't work. American Revolver makers have been saying for years MIM is just as good when it's not. To those who have experienced MIM part failures we know MIM is not suitable for duty use. He wasn't lying about 500 rounds before failure. I had one failure three separate times at around 350 to 500 round count. Same MIM part, same failure rate. Thanks Tomas Spohr for your words of wisdom and telling it like it is.

    Lot of ignorance on display regarding MIM manufacturing. There are tons of firearm applications where it shines far and beyond that of traditional forging and machining. The issue with MIM is failure due to poor quality control and protocols. However, once dialed in, MIM produces a part with consistent hardness and grain structure throughout. With the proper application, you can end up with a SUPERIOR part.
    MIM has its place and limitations as well.

      It's also to do with the fact that S&W revolvers are outrageously expensive in Germany because S&W basically ignores us and every S&W revolver has to be imported in small batches by gun shops. A standard off-the-shelf 686 is 1,500€ here

      S&W's are by far the most common revolvers to get tuned for competition of all forms (now sure, the price has something to do with that but it's not like similar priced rugers are anywhere near as commonly used for that)
      both the MR-73 and spohr's are significantly better than any wheelgun S&W has and will ever make because they're basically just improved S&W's that don't have to be built to an affordable price point. That being said, S&W's original triple lock (1st model hand ejector .44) and Registered Magnum (The OG pre model 27 .357 wheelgun) where very much the equivalent of the MR-73/spohr back then and they're still amazingly well built guns by todays standards
      ironically S&W's best guns were the PC semiauto's from the 90's and early 2000's (952, PPC9, 945 PC) back when the performance center was an actual thing instead of another piece of nigh meaningless branding

    German craftsmanship is next level. They make incredibly complex watches and I’ve no doubt this revolver with all its balanced small parts and springs would be amazing. I own a Manhurin MR73 in .357/.38. I don’t see how you can improve on it but I haven’t handled one of these so who knows.

    Beautiful looking revolvers! Love that quick removal of the cylinder. Did eveyone catch tha fact that they cant carry guns in Germany so the safety factor of the transfer bar on a revolver isn't important. Then comes the price of nearly $4000.00. This isnt going to be a big seller here in the USA. Like the Korth German revolvers it's well built and attractive but very few here will ever buy 1.

      I hear what you’re saying, but at my club I see a lot of shooters that have 4k into multiple ARs and have become comfortable with that kind of spending. They’re burned out on polymer and looking for more legacy possessions. I think these will do well in the same market as Korth and Manhurin.

      @@Abledoggie42 It may sell in Europe but I guaranty this isn't going to make a profit here in the US. In Europe having far less guns that are much more expensive is more common than here. I've been to northern Europe several times and in Germany, Switerland, Norway, etc when someone says I'll bring my rifle normally means they have just 1. The same with I have a pistol (where legal). There are those that have more than 1 but they are forced to jump through so many hoops to have them and the cost is so great that most do not.

      I'm not exactly sure why, but all the club30 tuned revolvers usually come with polygonal barrels, too. I suspect it's because of their 9x19 cross-compatibility or something?
      I always though polygonal barrels were just a practical thing for duty pistols because they're easier to clean and stuff. But for some reason all the club30 gun smiths seem to think that polygonal barrels are actually better for high-precision bulls eye guns, too.

      He does have a "cheaper" model for $2,699. Considering what it is, I think that price is fair. And by the way the less expensive model also doesn't have mim parts and is hand made in Germany. It's not like with some other companies where they offer an "entry" model that's made in China or something (I'm looking at you STP!)

    What you are paying for is the skill of the artisan. With that said, I believe that it was never mentioned that these revolvers will shoot any better than the S&W revolvers. Now if a MIM part should fail (has not happened to me nor anyone I personally know) then I will send it to Smith and Wesson and have them replace the part(s). Their customer service is responsive and they pay for shipping both ways. Likewise for Ruger.
