    hi everyone! thank you all so so much for the comments! i enjoyed reading every single one of them 😊
    hopefully you understood from watching the video but THERE IS NO BETTER SCHOOL!! it's all about which school suits you best and which characteristics you value more so please REFRAIN from degrading another school and i wish you all the best in ur college experience :)
    ALSO feel free to leave comments about your choice and why you chose that school because i definitely wasn't able to cover everything in the video and i would love to hear your story! even if it's not about ucla vs berkeley, feel free to comment what school you chose and why!

      i also forgot to mention in the video but ANOTHER FACTOR is berkeley's semester system vs la's quarter system!! definitely keep this factor in mind when deciding :)

      I'm a Cal alumnus and I chose Berkeley over UCLA for the exact same reasons you took the opposite route. LOL. Good luck in Westwood. You honestly couldn't have gone wrong with either decision. Still. GO BEARS!!!

    You should be very proud of being accepted to UCLA; competition for a spot at UCLA was tougher than at Berkeley this year. According to data just released, the acceptance rate was 16.1% at UCLA and 18.3% at Berkeley. So be proud, and go Bruins!

    • @Gallic_Gabagool

      UCLA has lower average GPA than Berkeley though... so Berkeley is the more competitive one. The lower acceptance rate means nothing it's only lower because UCLA has more applicants to choose from so the denominator is bigger. Berkeley has the more competitive students.

      @@Gallic_Gabagool Sorry for entering the convo two years late.
      Here’s another link: www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/freshman-admissions-summary
      You have to do some work to get the freshmen gpa of both UC Berkeley and UCLA. For “Select a View” choose “Freshman Enrollees.” For “Applicant Characteristics” choose “HS GPA.” For campus, obviously choose “Berkeley” and “Los Angeles.”
      Let’s look at the enrolled class for 2019 and UC GPA, which is capped, not fully weighted:
      Berkeley, acceptance rate 16%
      4.20 and >, 3,538 students who enrolled, 54.8%
      3.80 to 4.19, 2,332 who enrolled, 36.1%
      3.40 to 3.79, 175 who enrolled, 2.7%
      3.00 to 3.39, 52 who enrolled, 0.1%
      Total Class: 6,454
      Los Angeles, acceptance rate 12%
      4.20 and >, 3,810 students who enrolled, 64.4%
      3.80 to 4.19, 1,557 who enrolled, 26.3%
      3.40 to 3.79, 211 who enrolled, 3.6%
      3.00 to 3.39, 42 who enrolled, 0.1%
      Total Class: 5,920
      So it was actually UCLA that had a bit more of the top-tier grades in 2019 ~ 10%, and UC Berkeley that had a bit more of the second-tier, ~ 10%. They’re both extremely hard to which to gain entry, so it’s really splitting hairs.

    i was in your shoes about a month ago. I'm from socal studying engineering, and I always thought i wanted berkeley. but when i went there, it was the vibe that really killed it for me. I loved the campus, it was beautiful, but the people there just didn't seem right for me. they seemed much more like activists and always looking for a change in our society. no judgement there, but its just not really the kind of person i am. when i went to bruin day, i definitely felt a lot more of a chilled/relax vibe there. people were all nice and were much more welcoming. i will admit one thing though, i did love the surrounding campus at berkeley as it did in fact feel more like a college town. but thats not to say that ucla's surrounding doesn't feel this way either. it's just berkeley's felt more campusy. now overall it was a very tough decision for me. but it was the campus atmosphere that really got me the most. i felt very at home at ucla. i felt like i'd enjoy my time more there. i also felt that when i visited berkeley (which i went for 3 days), i just kind of felt like it was a place that i'd like to vacation at. I felt like i could only be there for short periods of time, rather than actually going to school there. even though berkeley has a better engineering program, it seemed like one of the real things persuading me to go there. I enjoyed ucla a lot more, thought it was beautiful, and really just felt like i belonged there. so anyways, sorry for the long comment! ill see you there in the fall!

    Congratulations on UCLA! It is the dream school for so many students, so you are very luck to be going there. Many say it's the most well-rounded UC school, it has it all: great academics, social scene, and athletics. It is now the most popular UC campus as it receives the largest number of applications every year. About 20,000 more than Berkeley or SD. Good luck in the fall!

    Im newly admitted and i had hard time choosing between Berkeley and UCLA. I've been to berkeley a lot ever since high school, and saw myself as a student better at Berkeley especially with san fran being so close.. and I always loved the telegraph avenue :)) it felt like little new york! And my parents and people encouraged me attend Berkeley because of their rank.. haha However I now love UCLA's traditional college vibe!! There are so many trees and it was beautiful :3 it felt relaxing and comfortable, and looking down from janss steps was amazing!! So I decided to uclabound :D

I know SO many people that went to Cal that feel like they made the wrong choice and regret not going to UCLA (like myself) I could relate to everything you were saying including the coin thing, the home thing, and the excitement on receiving decision... but I still ended up picking Cal due to prestige. But since we are in the midst of the Coronavirus, I don’t get to see what the schools look like. Both are awesome schools, Berkeley I think has more prestige and I was beating myself up for not applying, but I did get into UCLA and after seeing comparison videos, they both have their prestige and great qualities about them, it is all a matter of location, people, vibe, etc.

    Nice Vlog you have here, it's really encouraging to choose the right school which is suitable and convenient for us both academically and mentally. I also had a hard time now to choose my graduate school between Berkeley, UCLA or USC as an international student, because i'm in Indonesia and i can't walk around to see the campus myself and feel the atmosphere as it is. My girlfriend is studying at berkeley now and as an ambassador of Indonesian student community. So, hope i can choose it immediately to re-apply it at LPDP Indonesian Scholarship.

      ARWU: Berkeley

    • @Gallic_Gabagool
      @Gallic_Gabagool 6 років тому +1

      Legacy Jeet Kune Do While Berkeley doesn't have a med or film school it does have quite a few departments that are much higher ranked than UCLA. Statistics, Computer Sci and Chemistry as a few examples. Also I'd personally argue that Berkeley not having a medical school isn't really a negative. UCSF is defacto their medical school but due to historic reasons its administered separately and it actually ranks above UCLA on both the research and clinical sides of the US News and World Report rankings.

    • @tristianlolzylolz
      @tristianlolzylolz 6 років тому

      Legacy Jeet Kune Do Both are definitely competitive. But, Berkeley beats UCLA out in the vast majority of graduate programs as well. To be fair though, Berkeley doesn't just beat out UCLA, but also many of the elite east coast schools too in terms of program rankings, including my alma mater.

    You have probably almost graduated now but in Orange County CA there is no way a person would go to Berkeley. UCLA is by far the top choice. UCLA is were everyone wants to go unless they are a person of Faith. If the are a person of Faith then first they would chose a Christian school but out of your choices UCLA would win hands down. I went to UCLA. and it was really fun

      This is an old comment, but I just wanted to say that if political events and protests/rates really bother you that much, then you shouldn't go to most UC's imo. UCLA definitely had protests, and this past fall Cal, UCLA, and Davis had a big strike for librarian wages or something. People going around with signs, chanting, etx. Not to mention all the preachers that come to LA's campus and have those big arguments (look them up on UA-cam.)
      TBH it's mostly overblown and nothing you can't deal with.

I like both schools for different reasons, and I'm so conflicted right now. The academics at Berkeley seem truly cutthroat. What are the UCLA academics like? I don't hear many people complain about UCLA's academics!

      That's the stupidest logic ever. A classic tautology. And this, my friend, is why Berkeley attracts Berkeley people. Poor thinking. Shallow rhetoric. Empty slogans.

    • @Gallic_Gabagool
      @Gallic_Gabagool 6 років тому +2

      Khanh Ho It has some of the best science/engineering departments and professors in the world and you're going to say they have poor thinking? Uh ok...

    • @swicheroo1
      @swicheroo1 6 років тому +2

      Look up the word tautology. My point was that the tautology reveals much about the mentality of the lemming-thinking. I'm a professor. I got into Berkeley and UCLA for my undergrad AND my graduate study, which terminated in a Ph.D. I also got into half the Ivy Leagues--all on a full ride. "Berkeley is Berkeley" is absolutely illogical circular reasoning...and unfortunately many young people choose the school simply because they are drawn like moths to that kind of dumb thinking. A more substantive position would be to truly analyze the utility of the institution. Yes, Berkeley is great for almost any discipline...if you are a grad student...and it's super-awesome for professors as its an apex predator in academia. But an undergrad doesn't necessarily get anything out of that kind of reputation. Most Berkeley students are smart and get chewed up and spit out because there is no care given...because there is endlessly winnowing...and just as with genetic manipulation...you can create super-strains of smart students...but at the cost of weeding out students who would do better in almost any other environment. As an undergrad, you are NOT going to be participating in the kind of groundbreaking research that the upper-echelon professors perform. You are learning some very basic received knowledge that anybody in the field can transmit. None of the Nobel Laureates are even interested in you. You'll be taught by TA's and even they will not give two fucks.

      Lower acceptance rate =/= harder to get in. Look at average gpa + SAT/ACT. Average GPA is higher at Berkeley, while SAT/ACT scores are roughly the same. This simply means that the applicant pool at Berkeley is on average more competitive.

      Do the best you can do in high school. Take AP courses that interest you, balance your courseload, and pick one or two extracurriculars to make you stand out. But also enjoy yourself!! Always remember that transferring is an option as well. Going to community college out of high school first is the best academic decision I've ever made.
