I'm making my college decisions right now and am really stuck between going into my local CC and transferring or going to a 4 year away from home. Your video was so informative!
I am also from Myanmar, aiming to apply to UC Berkeley Haas school as a transfer student. Lovely to see you!
Congrats 💗 You deserve this you've worked so hard!
congrats!!! i totally agree with you, people need to stop sleeping on cc because you really do learn more about yourself the first two years. being around so many other high schoolers taking 5 APs at once gave me so much pressure and i was so sad i couldn't get into UCI my first year. but i'm here now and i don't regret taking the (cheaper) route :)
@@MarkKim-jk5cg you'll have a significantly higher chance of getting in if you go to a cc first :) good luck!! zot zot zot
Hello! I really enjoy your advice! I'm a highschool senior and I have decent grades and GPA, but I'm still unsure what I want to do with my life or what career path. So, I've been thinking about doing community college for 2 years and then transferring. This video really help me a lot and made me think more about going into CC.
Thank you for posting this video! My dream school to transfer to after community college is UCLA! I’m out of state so the chances are even smaller, but I’m going to try my best at unity college to stand out!
omg im burmese as well and my plan to go to community college has solidified for a while now. i did pretty average in high school but had a rough experience so im hoping to redeem myself in cc. thanks for this video, it was very informative!
This video really did help me a lot! Thanks for the post and keep up the great work! Congrats!
Great video! I’ll be waiting for the CC tips video
Can you please make a video on how you managed to pull all these difficult classes and get an A? And also how the community college was easier or harder than you expected?
i’ll be making a vid talking about my entire cc experience! but to answer your questions bc idk if i’ll talk about that directly, it’s important to do some research/ask around in regards to professors. i had good professors & the classes would’ve been way more difficult if i had different ones. the general ed classes were quite easy and my major related coursework were as hard as i expected them to be!
This video was so well organized and really informative. Thank you!!
thank you for making this video!
This is so amazing! Congratulations🥳 I am also Burmese and Chinese!! I am currently thinking about transferring to UCLA😅
hey i've been watching your videos for almost a year now to prepare for college (i'm a hs junior). i'm planning to go to cc and i was looking around the school's website when i found the honors transfer program page with YOU in the picture! it's so reassuring realizing you went to the same cc i'm planning on going to especially because i want to major in comp sci and transfer to a UC Berkeley or UCLA to become a swe. this video feels like cheating and is super helpful
1. This is SUPER helpful.
2. You’re a fucking boss.
3. The more you talk. The more I realize you’re built different 💪🏽
This video was exactly what I was looking for, thanks!
Can you do a follow up video of your reading your UC personal response questions?
ah thank you, i’m glad it was helpful! unfortunately, i don’t feel too comfortable sharing my PIQs word for word, sorry :(
Love this! I’m also a fall 2020 transfer and I also got into UCLA, Berkeley, UCSD, and UCD (I chose UCLA!)! I hope you’re doing well!
@@spicyshizz2850 it shouldn’t matter what CC you go to as what’s most important is your personal performance in your classes and your application. However, I think it is worth it to look at the transfer stats of the CCs you are interested in attending to help you decide if you are on the fence about a particular CC. For example, I know that De Anza college in Northern California is consistently ranked at the top of the best CCs to transfer from so you would get a lot of support from them there!
@@ptran3641 yup that’s exactly what I mean, I’ve noticed some CCs have extremely low transfers. Do u know if Mt. Sac might be good
I'm in the same boat! Applied as CS to every UC and got accepted to all excpet waitlisted at berk. UCLA was the only one that I applied to as math of comp and decided to commit there this fall haaha.
Congratulations man! Can you share your story and course map? Thank you. It'll really help.
3.94 Transfer GPA. I think my extracurriculars got me in though. @@jackbanxian
Hey do you know what grades ucs look at? is it all grades including your last fall grades
Hey!! I'm posting my video of mine to this topic TODAY! I picked Cal tho... haha. Just subbed :)
so I enrolled into a cc last year, but unfortunately I had to drop all my classes because I was overwhelmed with two jobs plus school. I'm terrified that these withdraws will effect my chances to getting into Berkley and ucla once I restart my college process all over again.
hi!! sorry for the late response, and i’m sorry to hear that 😞 juggling work with school is not easy at all, and it’s very respectable that you recognized your limits and took a step back. i’d give yourself more credit 🙂 as long as you explain your gap on your uc application (there will be a section for it), it shouldn’t affect you too much! try to use this experience and write about how you’ve grown from it and prevailed 🙂
geez i wanted to kms cuz i had a B but this gives me hope lol so ty I appreciate it
i’m going to start at SMC this fall, transferring to UCI for computer science. what are some tips and advice, courses and extra curricular.
I’m trying to do honors. I’m taking an honors class this semester. I need to write a 10 page essay though 😢 with 3 scholarly sources.
Is it just me or is hearing how many Extra curriculars she’s done kindve scares me. Like I just finished my first semester of college and have 0 officer positions… what I’m so confused is if I’m applying in the second fall semester, that means I have to do all my extracurriculars in my first year of CC… MAN I HOPE I MAKE IT 🥲
Edit: this is not hate, this is AWESOME, and at least gives me the truth of how to transfer
I know a huge thing with the UCs is that the emphasis on GPA goes up by a lot when transferring as a CC student in comparison to applying as a freshman. They care a lot on whether or not you completed your required coursework and excelled at it
yay congrats again! why did you pick ucla over usc btw?
mainly because of financial reasons, but also because i just couldn’t see myself at usc. ucla offers much more opportunity for me in terms of my hobbies, like dance and film! i also preferred my ucla major :)
hiii, thank you for this great video. did you include a link/profile name of your youtube channel when you listed it in the application?
Hi!! I’m currently a community college student hoping to transfer to UCLA with the TAP program. I didn’t know that the tap program was for that specific college? Is this still the same? My goal is to major in CS.
Hi! Did your cc offer the tranfer alience program because the one I want to go to does not.
yes i participated in UCLA TAP and Honors! check if your cc has an honors transfer program and go from there, they're in charge of TAP. when i went to cc my counselor didn't know what TAP was, so there may be a program after all.
What community college did you go to?
If i get cs with math in my community college then will I get chance in mathmatics of computation subject in UCLA or not I have to stay in cs math or physics?
if i’m understanding your question correctly, taking computer science and math courses should suffice for the math of comp transfer requirements. i needed physics because i applied as a computer science major at other schools. but you should check assist.org, you can put in your community college and where you want to transfer. it’ll tell you what classes you need!
Will be taking 3 major prerequisites in spring affect my chances for CS? Linear Algebra, physics C and Discrete math. GPA 4.0 with decent ecs. Sorry for the late posting. Thanks
@@dvyjessica Thank you. Saw all your posts even in TikTok. You are amazing and an inspiration. Good luck with your career.
Hey Jessica! Did you submit an arts portfolio for dance at stanford?
Hey, I am currently a freshman at USC, I am interested in transferring to UC Berkeley, do you know if anyone who has done that or who has attempted ??
If you're doing an engineering major it's almost impossible to get into uc berkeley since they give priority to community college students but if you're in a business major i don't know why you would even think about going to uc berkeley since usc has one of the best programs in the country for that.
oh sorry i didn't see this! but yea, it's pretty difficult to get into uc berkeley from a school like usc because priority is given to community college students. you'd need a really good reason and a very strong application.
wait wtf you're so involved in your high school years LOL i wish i was as involved as you were 😂😂
As a transfer from orange coast college do I need ielts for requirements?
not sure if you answered this already but did you complete the full assist coursework for the computer science majors you applied for at like uci and ucsb?
hi ya i did! almost all schools had the exact same coursework, iirc it was just like 1/2 more classes
Heyy what was your cc name?
I’m about to start studying CS at SMC with hopes of transferring to a decent UC, but I’ve never had straight As in my life 😬
Is it tough getting into schools like UCLA with more Bs than As?
hey i didn’t have close to straight As in high school either! :,) to be honest, i feel like getting As/good grades is way easier at community college than hs because of the fact that you’re able to pick your professors, we only have to take on what we can handle, and cc professors are lenient with grading in general because they understand we need the grades to transfer. to answer your question directly, yes it’s tough but also probably much more doable than you think to get straight As at a community college given you play the school game correctly. :D
to provide you some reassurance though, as long as you’re at a certain GPA many schools offer guaranteed admission (UC TAP)! the GPA is usually around a 3.2-3.4, so if your goal is to transfer to a “decent/mid-tier” UC you’ll be perfectly fine with a mix of As and Bs. :)
edit: wait i just read that you’re CS oh no 😭 i think they took away TAG for CS at davis/irvine recently but either way with a decent gpa and strong ECs you’ll be fine! really take advantage of your IGETC/GE classes for grade boosts
@@dvyjessica Thank you for such a thoughtful reply! With videos like yours talking about taking advantage of what these CCs have to offer students, I'm encouraged to participate a lot more and really get the experience necessary for a successful transfer and just academic experience in general. So thank you for taking the time to make such well informed videos and responding to questions on 2-year-old videos!
Hello! I have a question about ap credit. I passed the exams for ap world history, ap bio, ap lang, ap stats, ap comp sci principles. How would i know if these fulfill any classes at cc? I really need help with this bc i dont wanna take classes i dont need to take and waste my time (im also a cs major and an incoming freshman at cc )
hi! talk to a counselor at your cc, it should be an easy process to transfer the credits. they just asked me for my high school transcript and handled the rest for me :) not sure about world history, but bio lang and stats should fulfill GEs for you. comp sci may or may not fulfill the first intro cs class!
Hii! Did you not have to complete your IGETC to transfer?
hello! :D i completed my igetc before transferring but i don’t think it’s actually required, just recommended
wait what's you other youtube channel name 😭?
hi sflr but the channel is called daydreamer! i made got7 videos!! :') if you've seen "things you didnt notice" videos, i basically popularized it back then 🥺
Hi! I am an incoming freshman at CSUF and I have so much questions I want to ask u:) Is it okay if I can text you?😭
Can someone plz tell me if cc is easier then cc or not?
You get a placement test before you enter which determines class difficulty
@@jennyhateseverything really? when? I already start taking one online but I didn't took any placement test yet?
I had to stop watching when you butchered “Fourier Series” like that. Fourier getting slept on. :(
Btw which community college did u attend?
i went to community in the SMCCD district, so i attended primarily skyline college but i also went to CSM.
hello super great video, but i have a quick question. When the UC's accepted your application do they only see 1st years fall, spring, and summers gpa, or do they also see the following years fall and spring too.
assuming you’re a 2 year transfer, they take your 1st year’s grades into consideration + the fall semester before you transfer i believe! but you still have to keep spring grades up for TAG/not get rescinded :’-)
Aww congrats on getting into such amazing colleges! ❤️ I think your story is super helpful since there are not many transfer student experience videos out there! You definitely went into detail with all the essentials! I’m excited to hear about your community college experience! 😊🙌🏻
omg too kind, thank you 🥰
