I bought a metal platform bed from Amazon. Then I bought 6 of those large plastic storage crates from Walmart. The crates fit perfectly under the bed. I've lived in a studio condo now for almost seven years and love it. If you have a small home don't fill it with crap. Choose your furniture wisely and sparingly. Everything should have at least one legitimate purpose. Two or more purposes are better. For example, the two end tables along side my couch provide a surface for a lamp, book and coaster. They also have two drawers each for useful storage. I have a little bistro table where I eat and it doubles as extra desk space when I need it. I like how all these "it's also a bed!" furniture combinations pretty much forbid any kind of "fun" to be had on said bed unless you don't mind breaking everything you have stored on the hidden shelves.
Then I guess people who buy these kinds of beds will have to take it nice and easy when they're having fun. It's kinda hasty that they seem to have put little thought into long term use. I know one or two of these beds will crack or start falling apart in a few years.
