- This is a short video about the sim racing setup I made using a free Poang chair and about $10 of supplies from the hardware store. It is very effective and great bang for the buck.

"I call them my racing clamps" :D You, Sir, are an absolute legend! I am seriously considering doing the same setup. Happy Racing (and New Year)!
Thank you. Good luck.
Hands down the best set up by far, made my own and only thing I changed was using pre cut wooden chocks for the side angle pieces. Been a composites engineer for 20 years and tip my hat to you sir
Thanks a lot, Ben. Good luck on track!
That's great, you invented a awesome new sim rig
What a legend! I've just gone and bought one of these chairs for next to nothing from e-Bay. Thankyou!
Great news! Good luck.
Necessity IS the mother of invention, Cam! That'll get 'er done well enough.
Billy
Thanks, Billy.
Cool setup Cam! 👍🏻👊🏻
Thanks, Fred.
Nerdiest thing ever: I still want to build a similar rig for IL-2 Sturmovik. Great work, as always!
Thank you.
Very ingenious design there!
Thank you.
I'm gonna make one, super idea !!!
I used to drive real race cars on small town 1/2 mile dirt tracks. Great fun!
Awesome!
Bravo!
Very cool though!
Picking up a secondhand POÄNG on Sunday. My ambition is to build something similar as flight sim controls - a custom stick and rudder pedals mounted under the seat. Switching from a desk chair to a fixed seat gives you 80% of the feeling of driving/flying a vehicle vs playing a computer game IMO!
Good luck and thanks for watching.
you could make 2 holes going through the frame and armrests and then secure it with round head bolts and fly nuts. yes, you will have holes in the chair but it's not a big damage. I think it will be more stable than with clamp (and also more secure for elbows :P )
Thanks for the suggestion.
@@CammiesGarage thank you for the general idea, i just built the version1 :) i used to have another one but it was too bulky and heavy and in general difficult to "hide" in a small flat.
Been thinking of getting this chair for console gaming in front of TV, how comfortable is it after long hours? I have bad neck and back so I am hoping I can relax in it but also be in good posture while using it, how do you rate it?
I like it, but I do not have a bad back. The Poang chair I had previous to this one had a canvas back instead of wood slats and it was a bit better, I think.
Nice. I used the chair and a small IKEA table to clamp the wheel to. This is much better. Might have to give it a whirl.
Good to hear. I hope it works out for you. You really can't beat the price. LOL
What table do you use? I have the exact chair.
@@tr_20 it’s just a small square coffee table from IKEA. Very cheap.
@@RobLawson1982 Is it the Ikea Lack? Have you made the mount already?
@@tr_20 It is the Lack. Just googled it. I just put a little bit of card round the edge to protect the table from damage and it works fine. I haven’t made the mount as I haven’t played in a while.
this looks exactly what I was wanting to do as we have virtually no space left for storing things.Only thing is do you find the pedals stay in place, we have a laminate floor so I might have to add a strut down with a plate at the bottom. Anyone else done this?
I'm not sure, but it sounds easy to implement. Good luck!
I bet you haven't lost any of your speed! You were quick in LFS, second only to Bryan and we all know what he went onto achieve!
Thanks, my man! Now if I could only keep my car pointed straight, I would do well. LOL!
Hey Cammie, still waiting for the racecar you will make haha
It is still on my mind! Maybe soon.
Dear,
What poang cushion is it? I got myself used chair like this, but it has neck rest, and it is not as comfortable. I see yours doesn’t have it
It came with a removable headrest, so I just took it off. I got this for free from a friend, so I do not know which one, exactly.
Genio
Can you make a template with the measurements I have the same exact chair!
I feel like this is a really simple thing to make. I just eyeballed it for the most part.
My GF will murder me if I took our retro Poäng chair and used clamps on it:)
Even though I use it for racing, built a wooden frame that stands on the floor in front of me instead.
But really like the Idea
Good video pal
Hi 👋
I really liked this idea
I have same chair I want the same what have you done. Can you give me the size of woods please for make my job easier if you don't mind
Hello and thanks for watching. I did not take any measurements or make plans. I just eyeballed everything. I know that is not helpful, but the design is really simple. Good luck.
you drove in LFS, therefore you have my respect :)
LFS is a great sim! Unfortunately, a bit dated now.
@@CammiesGarage I am still a beta tester in LFS , and I know Scawen still have a new tire model in his pocket, but not ready yet to release... I think LFS is back to be a side project from his job since some times now, so the dev go very slowly :(
The netcode in LFS is so much superior than iRacing. And the lobby system is the best, where you can just enter a server and from there change car and track without having to go exit the game.
The lack of timely development makes me sad. I just wish an investor could somehow make it a full-fledged product.
Can you give me the dimensions and another question do you think it can hold a t300
The dimensions depend on your chair and how you want it to fit. I think you have to custom size it to your needs. The only measurement I took was the distance between the arm rests. I eyeballed the rest.
I do not know what a t300 is.
I'd never be able to get in or out of that! :P
Ha! Well, the point was to be easily and quickly disassembled so you don't have to Dukes-of-Hazzard it like I do.
Really cool!!! Can you provide dimensions? Height, length etc..
Thanks. Dimensions depend on the chair you use.
@@CammiesGarage i Uwe the same Chair. Van i gest the dimensions?
Why don't you adapt it to attach under the desk?
That is a great idea for a future project.
That is really cool! I play games myself but pretty much only Dota :) And that game can be super annoying at times.
Can you give us the project? Thanks
I did not make plans. It is very simple. I think you can make it yourself.
I want to see you carve one out of reclaimed lumber or a tree. 😉
If I was making another today, I would use reclaimed. :D
AWESOME! you must crash a lot tho, i mean you drive on the wrong side of the road HAHAHA
Yes, I do crash a lot. [cry]
That exact same IKEA chair is my butt holder of choice when gaming. Never thought of using it for racing though ... mmmm .... interesting.
It will take your racing TO THE NEXT LEVEL!
