This is genius. Simply genius. And there I was, thinking up all kinds of incredible complicated metal bar rigs, not knowing anything about welding whatsoever. Corpses of trees is the solution. Thanks dude!
Dva sata posla maksimalno! Za čas se napravi. Preporučujem sedište od starog sportskog auta, ja sam našao od Alfe GT. Samo treba prostora, kad se to napravi zauzima lepo mesto.
I almost felt myself diving towards the monitor to catch the saw when it fell lol. Great work with the rig , nice and simple and works perfectly. Nice one mate!
Really appreciate having this exist! I found a sweet manual GTI (the plaid one, of course) seat in good condition so I actually mounted the seat rails to the chassis of the rig so I can move the seat back and forth so others can use my sim too, but I didn't have the slightest clue as to where to start in terms of actually building it until I saw this.
Nice job, Jeff! You've taken something that would've otherwise been left to collect dust in the corner of the garage and turned it into something everybody watching this video would be excited to try out. Very cool!
I really like this particular design, it's just simple and easy, other people put in complex angles and measurements, sure it looks nice but when it comes to functionality and ease of building this one takes the cake
Thanks for the video! This gave me some nice ideas. I don't want to build such a huge thing with a dedicated seat. Instead, I plan to make only the "table" part. Then when not playing, I can easily store it in the living room as a regular table. I will also want to "extend" it from the sides, to have a cup holder on the left, and a place for a mouse/USB keypad on the right.
I don't have access to a seat, timber, steering wheel, pedals or a computer. Can you make a video showing how to make this setup without those items? Thank you
I picked up a couple of leather RX-7 seats for cheap from a junkyard that worked perfect for my arcade cabinets, especially with their side-bolstering and lumbar support gave them more of a realistic feel within a Race Cab arcade cabinet.
Glad I found this video again, after watching this last year I went to the wreckers and bought bucket seat from a Kia Cerato, bought the passenger seat because it was in excellent condition and only cost me $50, it is super comfortable and came with the rails which were all of similar height so no packing etc to make it fit on my frame. Been using it for a year now and the only change i have made it to remove the G29 pedals and invert them so they sit like a real car. Thank you for the inspiration. Total cost for a really good sim seat (Not included the logitec G29) was $50 seat plus $15 in timber.
so my 1st car was an 06 Pontiac and the engine gave out a while ago, got a new 2015 nismo juke (love it, miss my pontiac because of some memories). The pontiac has just been sitting in the yard until getting paid off and then going to a junkyard, so now ill have a use for the front seats and im stoked!
i have a wheel stand pro with full motion sim, and tbh, this video just made me want to try building one for my fiance or friend to learn how to drift! awesome to have wood become a endless possibility for a racing sim
Jeff, you're a legend! My partner bought me a Logitech G29 Racing Wheel with the H-Pattern shifter, and I'm looking for ideas on a simple DIY rig to build, and I'd like to say thanks for throwing these ideas out there for people to see and use! Keep up the awesome work mate! :)
im building the rig, but I enjoy racing with a h-shifter so ive created my own mod for the shifter and I don't have access to paint. but you really have delivered on the promise of the cheapest diy sim cockpit so im gonna subscribe
I don't have a lot of room in my place for something like this to be stuffed in the corner of a room with its own dedicated monitor/PC and such full time, however, I'm going to be looking at building a SLIGHTLY different model of this setup. The table will be easily detachable, the seat easily removable and reusable as a normal chair while working at a work bench. The entire unit would have to come apart and stack in a corner somewhere like a utility closet, but it can easily come out and "play". AWESOME stuff here.
Thanks for sharing this build. I built 1 had so much fun built a 2nd one and now can have head 2 head race tournaments in person when the guys are over. I used Acura rsx seats driver and passenger i got of kijiji.
I was looking to build a PVC rig and scored an old 911 seat yesterday (Gumtree, $50) as the first step. Now I’ve seen this, I’m doing it your way mate. Cheers :-)
The seat is everything, and it’s a Porsche seat. It really does not matter how simple a rig is, as long as you have the best fit possible, and can stand up to the rigors of sim racing, I’m handy enough to build a rig, but wanted a store bought rig, and a damn nice one I got. RSeat S2.
Great video mate. Popped down to the old pick and pull and nabbed me a BMW all power leather seat with the power harness for 45 bucks. Thanks for the idea!
This is acutally pretty easy to do. I am going to bhuild this once i moved into my own place. Dad wouldnt be such a fan of this :D Thanks for the video :)
Moin, you made a fine RIG there I'm more of a hobby at ACC at the Series X and just looked at what material had accumulated over the years. I built my RIG completely out of wood and this is what it looks like now. It only has to be filled and then painted black with orange accents. However, it has become quite massive (1.72 mx 1.20 m). I built in the Gamechair as only I am allowed to sit in it. So he didn't have to go on any rails. Unfortunately, the options on the XBox are very limited. I took the 3 vibrators + control from an old massage mat, screwed 2 of them into the seat and the third to the pedals. Connected via the subwoofer of the Gamechair. Not as optimal as on a PC, but the result is astonishingly good. Engine vibrations, curbs or gear changes are simulated well. I can proudly say that I have made something fantastic for me out of "junk in the basement". Except for a few corners, I had everything lying around. I think it's great when someone thinks about it and builds something for themselves. Anyone can buy ... 😄 Definitely a nice video of you with a great result. Here is a very short video of my RIG in its current state. ua-cam.com/video/BuATCe7t4Xs/v-deo.html
This is awesome! My wife just got me a Xbox one with forza 3 for Christmas. Now I have an excuse to get a steering wheel and pedals so I can use my spare 240z seat👍🏼😁
This is great, so simple and effective. I’m looking for ideas to put something together for my 4 year old, i think I’ll probably go with PVC but this gives me an idea on how to go about it.
Thats amazingly simple and prefect... I've always wanted to move up to a wheel instead of my curent hand controller... money was always holding me back but this might be just the ticket... thanks for the video...
I really like it. G29 (Im only a casual racer) arrives tomorrow. Im gonna build this for GT7V. Im gonna taper the front down, put a grill and some old vintage car lights on it. Maybe an old Hand honker too. 📯
Nice! I made one the same way practically for free with pallet wood from my job. Lol. It cost me a total of 10 dollars, and that was just for the casters so I can roll it out of my way when I'm not using it.
I did this back in 95 with a ps2, before it was popular, built the wheel and pedal mounts on a wood platform, worked well, would love to buy one of these newfangled wheels theyre sellin now.
thank you so much!!! I built my own sim rig too just no seat just wheel and pedals I really learned a ton here 👍 cost me 15$ wood and screws I had the drill and saw

Dang I always wanted to have just a wheel and pedals but I’m not financially stable enough for just the simplest ones, but I hopefully will get one soon and this has helped me save money for my set-up thanks man🙏
Dude! You've got a table RIGHT THERE!!! Put the wheel on the table, throw your seat/pedals assembly under it and use THAT to figure your distance, at least. Who knows, maybe you'll like the height, too. Of course, another way is to get a friend to hold that stuff for you while you do your measuring-tape thing. Pretty good low-budget deal, though.
Thanks a lot. I found Alfa Romeo Gt seat, pair it with Logitech G29 and follow your instruction. I just reinforced structure with steel L shaped profile and it's good to go. I would suggest people to put little bigger table, mine is wider 5cm each side of structure and you get aditional space to put something. Your phone, joystick or keyboard. Once again thanks a lot. For curious, everything costed me (without seat which you can find for 20 euros and G29) around 30 euros in material. It is 2 hours of work if you are not skillful. Way less if you are. Go for it!
I was going to click like just because you left in the segment where the tools fell off the board when you moved the counterweight! It's great to be able to laugh at ourselves. Good, simple build!
I basicly just did the same thing 2 days ago 😁 i had my thrustmaster t500rs wheel mounted to a wheel stand pro so that was the perfect way to start so i bought 3 garden poles.2poles are 9cm x 9cm x 240cm and 1 pole in size 7cm x 7cm x 240cm,i cut the big poles at a lenght of 150cm for the side of the rig, then i cut the left over pieces at 40cm this serves as the width of the rig(40cm is also the width of my wheel stand pro)as for seat i used my original audi s-line seat since i put recaro pole positions in my car.😉Then i cut the small pole in to 4x45cm to serve as table feet for my monitor, and just bought a dark oak wooden layer to put on top of it,and man it is stable, doesn't move a inch while racing while when i had my wheelstand pro when sitting in my couch it would contantly move around,i spend around 80euro worth of materials, and it's the best thing you can do if your handy and have the tools,i just didn't have a circle saw to cut everything so i sawed it manually other then that it took me about 5 hours to get it perfect how i wanted.
This is awesome, Im thinking I might actually do this. I was dreading spending $400 plus to buy one and im not exactly a good welder. On the plus side I already have an SVT Focus seat that I can use. Thanks for the idea
Hi again!😀 Made one from an old mazda 6 seat, doesn't actually even look that bad and works like a charm. It's also very comfy and didn't take that long to build. Cheers😁
I have made one myself from some boards from an old desk I had laying around. I haven't got a proper seat yet, so for now I am sitting on a kitchen chair. I made a plate with two holes for the front legs of the chair as a guide so that I can sit in the same position every time I need the setup, as it blocks the view from my bed. :P Update: just went out and bought a nice bordeaux leather seat from a '99 Alfa Romeo 156 4-door (passenger side) from the local salvage yard. Now to get it cleaned...
Home Built By Jeff Yes, at first, mine was a bit wobbly, but a vertical plate screwed to the sides and the top plate made all the difference. Now it is rock solid. I got the seat I bought earlier today cleaned and treated, now I only need to make a base and mount it to the rest of the rig.
Nice job. I recently made a sim for my son using PVC and a Chevy Sonic seat I pulled from the junkyard. Really helps when have to do endurance races on Forza 7.
Well this is way to go. i actually got to recycle an old Table and some poles from an old fence, and i made my own playseat so nice no more Anti slip mats for my pedals :D only thing left is the paint job and adding some side panels for other stuff ^^ thanks for this video u made almost 3 years ago XD if i could i'd show the end result
I'm afraid that you'll soon find out that the wheel tends to slide on/off the table when you start to put some pressure on it. It's because of the clamping system Thrustmaster puts on their wheels. I have solved this problem by filing out two spaces on the bottom of the table where the two clamp ends touch the table. This way the clamp actually clamps into the desk about 3-4 mil which should be enough for handling any lateral movements. Ultimately you can also hard-mount it on the desk but then it becomes a bit of a nuisance if you want to quickly set up or put away the setup.
I've never had an issue with my wheel (Thrustmaster t150) not staying put, perhaps you're just not clamping it down tight enough? It's not fragile, put some force into it and it will actually dent soft wood.
Might help to pad any areas of contact with some small flat pieces of rubber. Rubber resists sliding generally, thats why you see it on the base of joysticks, pc cases etc.
Jup great build, thats what im gona do! Super easy to build, super easy to perfectly adapt on the go while building and looks really sturdy! Thanks for the build, love it!
Great video well done. At 6:10 when things slide from that top reminds me of myself when I make things. Maybe it will last longer than most tubular setups too.
Nice gift, your wife is the best!!! Nice setup, simple and effective, love it. I hope the base for the wheel and TV is really sturdy. Once you get serious, between force feedback and brute Force (hehe), the table may shake a little when you're trying to catch the car before spinning or something like that, and you may find the TV shaking as well which is not good. Other than that, loved it! How comfortable is it to get in and out? I may take this simple idea of yours and try to replicate it in the near future!! Thanx for sharing, as always Jeff!
I don't mind climbing into it. It is not too difficult and it feels like you are climbing into a race car. A few have mentioned the TV wobbling, but it hasn't actually been an issue for me. Some may wish to modify the design to personalise it a bit more like making it easier to get into, but this is a simple base to start your mods from.
The tricky part about using a seat out of a real vehicle is finding one that will sit flat for you to bolt on to a board. Many or most dont have level anchor points. Also worth mentioning that you want a manual seat for a simple setup, since you wouldn't be able to adjust a power seat w/o rigging a power supply. In the end, I found a passenger seat out of a '98 Ford Windstar for $20 at the junkyard works great.
Home Built By Jeff when I was at the junkyard I had a hard time finding a seat with good mounts. Then I thought, what kind of vehicle has a flat floor? A van.
That actually looks pretty strong. Cheap as chips to make, especially as you had the seat already. I'm considering making my own and the only design change I'd make from yours is to make the front two supports under the wheel to come diagonally from the pedals. Should be just as strong and would make it easier to get in/out.
Very nice! You might wanna consider offsetting the legs of the table on the seat side a fee inches inward so you can get in and out easier, and shouldn't compromise the structure. Love your builds!
It would make it a bit easier to get in and out, but now it is built I can't be bothered pulling it apart again. That would mean less time playing it ;)
I think I would have tried to take the measurements from the Porsche and replicate that as best as possible. Nice build. You are going to have some fun. Good video
Good first try. I can see one potential issue with the pedal mounting. You'll need to place a securing bar across the end of the pedal assembly closest to the seat or they'll start to move upward under heavy braking. All in all, a good inexpensive rig.
Just bought a 911 for the seat now I'm good to go
My dad's friend has a Ferrari seat. I'm set. 😂
Also Ik this is a joke but imagine if someone did that irl 😂
@Kryptic Cyborg because everyone has got a spare gaming chair

LOL!
This is it, I've found it. This is how I'm gonna build it. Can't get simpler than that. Thank you.
Give it a go. Much better than just clamping to a table.

I don't have one yet. If I get one I will definitely post up the modifications ;)

LOL the best part was seeing Mrs Jeff take it over! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
That's really neat! I'm gunna follow this guide when I get my Wheel and Pedals
Update: just went out and bought a nice bordeaux leather seat from a '99 Alfa Romeo 156 4-door (passenger side) from the local salvage yard. Now to get it cleaned...
I may do up a design for a simple set up, that can be pulled out and put away, but setting it up well really helps getting your lap times down.
Nice one.
I’ve been thinking about getting one for my brother ima buy my self one too I’ve been hooked on these racing games realistic
Wow...You are talented...I could not do this in a decade...well done and happy racing!!
It is very simple, anyone could do it
Wow that was just amazingly simple. Now I definitely have the right ideal design. Thanks bruh this really helped me.
Oh super cool way to build something simillar.Thks for the nice video.
Nice setup! It would be cool if you could have seat rails underneath the seat so you can adjust it
It does ;)
Roll cage?
Coming, hopefully this week.
@Victortrotska to his car...
@Victortrotska but that was actually pretty funny

I'm afraid that you'll soon find out that the wheel tends to slide on/off the table when you start to put some pressure on it. It's because of the clamping system Thrustmaster puts on their wheels. I have solved this problem by filing out two spaces on the bottom of the table where the two clamp ends touch the table. This way the clamp actually clamps into the desk about 3-4 mil which should be enough for handling any lateral movements. Ultimately you can also hard-mount it on the desk but then it becomes a bit of a nuisance if you want to quickly set up or put away the setup.
As this is a designated rig, I will hard mount it when I finally get around to it ;)
I've never had an issue with my wheel (Thrustmaster t150) not staying put, perhaps you're just not clamping it down tight enough? It's not fragile, put some force into it and it will actually dent soft wood.
Might help to pad any areas of contact with some small flat pieces of rubber. Rubber resists sliding generally, thats why you see it on the base of joysticks, pc cases etc.
Hi. Got to use aluminum, the one used for curtain rails if you can't find a long, solid, sturdy aluminum bar.
THank you for this ... gave me the idea to build my own based on your design ... Since i drive a Skoda Octavia in RL, i used a Seat from one :)
Awesome. Good luck with it. :D
Watching this for the first time 5 years later, just what I'm looking for!
Loving it, one thing i would have done different is mount the "table" part for the wheel on the outside of the base so you have more width.
to be perfectly honest, this is a very cool, smart Dude
Jup great build, thats what im gona do! Super easy to build, super easy to perfectly adapt on the go while building and looks really sturdy! Thanks for the build, love it!
Great video well done. At 6:10 when things slide from that top reminds me of myself when I make things. Maybe it will last longer than most tubular setups too.
Quick and easy setup!
A nice little project almost everyone can do!
Cheers Jeff!
Hopefully. It works great.
That is a very good point. I think if you can get one out of an older car, you have a much better shot. New cars have mounts all over the place.
Home Built By Jeff when I was at the junkyard I had a hard time finding a seat with good mounts. Then I thought, what kind of vehicle has a flat floor? A van.
2:41 perfect timing with the music and your legs! 😂😂
That actually looks pretty strong. Cheap as chips to make, especially as you had the seat already. I'm considering making my own and the only design change I'd make from yours is to make the front two supports under the wheel to come diagonally from the pedals. Should be just as strong and would make it easier to get in/out.
As long as the angle wasn't too sharp. You could also just do that on one side, for easy access and keep the other straight for strength.
nobody:
Jeff: Owns two Porsches but not Airpods
Tim Ljunglöf airpods :D what a shitty fashion rubbish
Airpods are trash anyway.
@Rick its a f-ing joke XD I don't even have airpods
Very nice! You might wanna consider offsetting the legs of the table on the seat side a fee inches inward so you can get in and out easier, and shouldn't compromise the structure. Love your builds!
It would make it a bit easier to get in and out, but now it is built I can't be bothered pulling it apart again. That would mean less time playing it ;)
A project that I could do !!!!! (I've just watched an average guy (NOT) "making your dream car in 4 mins" ....)
Friend of mine built this a few days ago, works just fine.
Great to hear.
Hi Jeff!!! Really good Job!! Do you have the measures of the woods strips?? Thanks mate!
Nice Job by the way... looks good for the price!
I bet you could even make the seat slide forward and back.
It does ;)
Hey Jeff, thanks for the inspiration.
Any tricks to drill the angled (pocket?) holes at 5:18 for a noob wood worker like me?
Start drilling the hole straight and once you have the drill bit in a few mm you can then move to the angle you want easily ;)
Love it!
Just what i was looking for.
Simple, cheap and usefull.
Just as soon as I get a racing wheel I'm gunna try something like this. Nice job mate
Nice work Jeff! Need to do this for my force feedback wheel and pedals for my ps2.
I think I would have tried to take the measurements from the Porsche and replicate that as best as possible. Nice build. You are going to have some fun. Good video
I wished i had a dad like this man
Good first try.
I can see one potential issue with the pedal mounting.
You'll need to place a securing bar across the end of the pedal assembly closest to the seat or they'll start to move upward under heavy braking. All in all, a good inexpensive rig.
I have many many hours of use and that has not been an issue so far, but it could potentially happen.
