Couple of other entry peated options that I thought you'd have mentioned.
    Black bottle cask editions
    Black Bull Peated.
    Bunna Moine.
    Port Charlotte.
Chateau Chasilte (that blend from Mossburn that I can't spell)
Talisker now is a joke of a price given that Diageo gauged the price by 80-100% for the 18yo. It's nice whisky but it's not 180 notes a bottle nice.

Enjoyed this video, mainly because it took a different route to most of the people I know. Most people in my circle fell in love with Lagavulin 16, and I still always have one on the shelf. It's many times the price now, but what isn't? From there Laphroaig, then Port Charlotte and then Ardbeg. I got stuck in Islay peat for a long time before rediscovering Speyside and the Highlands. A beautiful lightly peated Allt-á-Bhainnne I picked up in a wine shop reminded me how beautiful they are. Your choices are stellar, although I might sub Caol Ila 12. It can be a little briny for those new to the genre.

In Canada, Talisker 10 is 70-85 GBP equivalent, depending on the province (tax in, no sales). There are some bottles priced close to equivalent (Arran, Glen Garioch are good value for us), most a bit higher, but Talisker is one of those ones we truly get hosed on. Caol isla 12 is a better match at 59gbp. Great banter guys. Cheers

A great educational podcast for a whisky newb. I remember about 8 years ago at the start of my Whisky journey where I was buying anything and everything from the supermarket, totally green to different regions and styles etc. I bought the Ardmore and a Laphroaig and baulked at the pair of them. They stayed on my shelf like a dirty leper for a good 5 years until a moment of madness where I thought "I wonder if they've mellowed yet". Needless to say I have both on my shelf and replace them regularly as I use them as an introduction to peat for freinds and family. I love peat so much now that 6 of my 7 purchases last month were peated.
I think a progression from entry level to mid-level then top end would be good to see including any IB recommendations.

Ian - for HP kilkerran they buy the malt in. Its the only whisky where the process isnt inhouse

is that definite Ian? don't remember that part of the tour, but we did have a wild few days so I've probably forgotten a good bit!

@@TheWhiskyBaron here you go....i was partially wrong as forgot about the unpeated KK. Standard Kilkerran Malted Barley = 10-15 PPM (malted at Springbank Distillery) and used for 8 weeks of production.
Unpeated Kilkerran Malted Barley = 0 PPM (sourced from third-party maltsters) and used for 1 week of production.
Heavily Peated Kilkerran Malted Barley = 40-45 PPM (normally sourced from third-party maltsters, but sometimes from Springbank Distillery) and used for 3 weeks of production.

@@TheWhiskyBaron nah, i had to fact check myself - i was just recently on the barley to bottle with Guy D (he who has all the whisky) and noticed the barley had changed for the floor maltings from Sassy - geeky i know but that level of transparency fascinates me. The latest KK HP small batch was very good so asked about the peated malt again which i was sure was bought in. Not sure what will happen when they install malt drums up at the Glengyle distillery. THis year will be pretty special as its 20 th anniversary of kilkerran so there'll be TWO 20 year old KK's around. Plans also to release single cask 15s this year too. If you cant make it DO make sure you try and get up in 2028. A long way off but a not to be missed bicentenary celebrated for Springbank.
