    People always credit "Home Sweet Home" as the first power ballad, which was released in 1985.
    Fade to Black was put out in 1984, and based on song structure and the acoustic guitar, it quite possibly might actually be the first true power ballad.
    Granted it's about a rather macabre subject, but that's fitting for a band called METALLICA, don't you think?

    • @semifallen
      @semifallen 8 років тому +4

      +hurpDurp1000 Fucking agreed. Everything Metallica did in the 80's was great. The songs, the live shows, the attitude were just perfect.

      Judas Priest released Stained Class, which has Beyond The Realms Of Death on it in 1978, so metal already had power ballads before even Fade To Black

    Cliff is missed, for sure.
    But people seem to forget, that Lars was the composition-engine of Metallica in the 80's. I had a chat with Flemming Rasmussen once, and according to him, Lars had the main ideas for all the classics, and he came up with most of the choruses and melodies. Cliff was talented, and he co-wrote more and more by every album, but in the end, it was Lars who created the magic, while James & Cliff (and Dave on the first album) contributed as well.

    • @MattPhyz
      @MattPhyz 9 років тому +5

      Mickey Holm that just isn't true! hahaha. James had hit the lights written before he joined Metallica, Mustaine had written, Mechanix/Horsemen, Jump in the fire, Metal Militia and Phantom lord. Thats a HUGE chunk of that first album. It is common knowledge Hetfield is the main song writter in Metallica. He's a guitar player it makes sense, 90% of metal songs start with a riff ... Thats how Sabbath done it, Metallica, Megadeth ... most rock bands start with a riff its the most logical way to write a song. Lars had a great input in the arrangment of the music but actually writing it? James was the engine.

    • @Binotto

      What? You are crazy. CLIFF BURTON MADE MASTER OF PUPPETS . Orion for example. HE was a erudit musician...........you are crazy man.

      @@MattPhyz not saying your wrong I actually agree with you on most points but Lars did right some of the riffs. James in an interview that Lars would hum riffs and most of them used in songs.

    Cliff não podia ter morrido ! Foi depois de assistir esse vídeo de madrugada com 13 anos com fones de ouvido que eu comecei a amar musica de verdade, nunca vou me esquecer dessa música e como ela foi tocada nesse show, já até chorei lembrando dessa letra enquanto assistia o vídeo, cliff foi sem dúvidas o melhor, e ainda é na minha opinião. Música perfeita, baixo base solo letra...já estou com quase 21 anos e ainda assisto esse clipe. O som da guitarra do Kirk simplesmente brilha slc.

    sabes, metallica me encanta, de echo, es lo que mas me gusta, de los mas sencillo que existe, pero muy bueno, claro, sus primeros 4 discos, el black mas o menos, pero orita ya no se les puede ver nada bueno, metallica fue en su tiempo un grupo excelente, ahora ya no lo es, mejor hay que escuchar el viejo metallica, ademas, por ahi en youtube, cuando dicen que les gusta metallica, dicen:
    "old metallica" al igual de "old megadeth"
    verdaderos fans disfrutan la musica buena, cuando si eran metal.
