Cliff's solos sound like a monster simultaneously celebrating and loathing its existence. Beautiful and menacing.

Ive come to conclusion that Cliff's brain and hands were separate entities..His head would be swinging back and forth without even knowing whats happening, yet his hands are moving with precision.

The thing that still so impresses me about Cliff was how he could maintain playing his instrument at such a full-throttle level while thrashing his head around like a washer drum that's about to spin itself off of its axle. I can't even play bass while keeping my head and neck still. I would've gone dizzy and fallen unconscious on my face had I tried to play the way he did.

People often say if Cliff hadn't died Metallica would have never changed their sound or as they say sold out, but I don't think that's true at all. Cliff was probably the most eclectic member of the band in terms of musical taste and diversity. He was a big fan of lynyrd skynyrd, ZZ Top, and many other classic rock bands. Lars and James were the ones who were mainly influenced by heavy metal bands. I think Cliff would have welcomed the more hard rock approach that ended up shaping Load and the other post 80's albums. I do feel that the music would have been different than what ultimately became the aforementioned records simply due to his involvement in the creative process. The dynamics of the band would have been different as well. After Cliff, Lars and James began their epic power struggle over the direction of the band. Cliff's presence would have toned that struggle down because he was held in such high regard by the other members of the band. Metallica would have probably been a much more well rounded band both musically and internally. Cliff is certainly missed. He has become an almost mythic character in the annals of rock and metal music.

I used to work with a lot of independent and punk bands around that time, crossover was happening and I've always liked metal so it was a logical progression. I kept my eyes and ears open.

Music critics can back me up on this, Cliff Burton is one of the greatest bass guitarists of all time. You do not have to be a metal junkie to appreciate his God given talent. Very few bassists can pull this off: Steve Harris from Iron Maiden, Geezer from Black Sabbath, Flea from Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and Elufsen from Megadeth. Life is so much colorful having them around. RIP Cliff, you changed the World for the better...

Because guitars meaning lead and rythem are easy to learn and even easier to make them sound like a bass, but it making a bass sound like a lead guitar even with wha wha and distortion pedals is a extremely hard thing to do and then it's hard in itself to just play bass like it's a rythem guitar yet alone like it's a lead guitar.

Heres why i think overwise to people saying he sucks: he played the bass like a lead guitar and was one of the first, he added a certain style and tone to metallica's songs which made them more heavy which wasn't repeated with jason or rob, he was the best head banger :) , even if his song writting and solo's were simplistic it doesnt mean he sucks - ACDC songs are the simplest stuff going but yet they are one of the best going which proves it needs to be techniqualy advanced to be good. RIP cliff, would have loved to see you live

Saw him live twice before he was taken from us way too soon. If there ever was a title of "lead bassist," Cliff's it. Revolutionary... I'd never seen a bass played like a guitar before or since...and doing it with his fingers! Just nuts...

Cliff is great. I have seen this movie many times and often come back to this clip. I remember on the anniversary of his accident and his brother turned in alarm primary school to honor him. He was doing something amazing with the bass guitar. I'm already old but his music and for me METALCA are beginning to listen to metal music. I was on METALICA in POLAND in Chożowie in 1991 (1992 because some do not remember the exact date), but a ticket for this show, yet we are at home. I greet all the METALICA and FANS.

was taken WAY too early. can only imagine what metallica would have been in the 90's if he had still been around. he probably would of told Ruben to stuff it. He was the heart of Metallica, even they say that. He came up with most of the flows of the songs back in the first 3 albums. Just had so much to do with what Metallica sounded like back during their prime.

Cliff Burton knowledge of music,as not just a bassist but as a Musician kept Metallica striving to be better and become Metal making history Mothertruckers. He inspired James, schooled Lars and paved the way for the replacements.A scholar in music Theory, but his technical finger slapping with melodic arpeggios Had never been heard with a Rhythmic metal up your ass sound.
