People often say if Cliff hadn't died Metallica would have never changed their sound or as they say sold out, but I don't think that's true at all. Cliff was probably the most eclectic member of the band in terms of musical taste and diversity. He was a big fan of lynyrd skynyrd, ZZ Top, and many other classic rock bands. Lars and James were the ones who were mainly influenced by heavy metal bands. I think Cliff would have welcomed the more hard rock approach that ended up shaping Load and the other post 80's albums. I do feel that the music would have been different than what ultimately became the aforementioned records simply due to his involvement in the creative process. The dynamics of the band would have been different as well. After Cliff, Lars and James began their epic power struggle over the direction of the band. Cliff's presence would have toned that struggle down because he was held in such high regard by the other members of the band. Dan Henderson "music has turned to shit" more like "I've become too lazy to look up new music that isn't on pop radio". There are plenty of brilliant musicians these days, the fact that you think music had turnt to shit says more about you.
Jari Stoppelenburg Not even close to what it was in the 60s - 80's. 99% of the greatest guitarists come from that era. Look it up lazy. Name a modern guitarist better than Jimmy Page or Jimi Hendrix. I'm waiting.
Dan Henderson Guitarists: John Petrucci, Plini, Tosin Abassi. Bassists: John Myung, Tom Murphy, Nicholas Baggs All a matter of taste, but that won't matter if you don't even want to try to like it.

Nothing beats the genius of Cliff... Such a special human being... This is what a true bass player should be. The best 4 ever
your play is no existent in the world. i miss u
was taken WAY too early. can only imagine what metallica would have been in the 90's if he had still been around. he probably would of told Ruben to stuff it. He was the heart of Metallica, even they say that. He came up with most of the flows of the songs back in the first 3 albums. Just had so much to do with what Metallica sounded like back during their prime.
sure, but wasn't "And Justice For All" their best album?
Ashraf Mohsen No. MoP is their best I would say. Following by Kill em All and then Ride the Lightning. And Justice for All bringing up the rear in my opinion. Which still makes it one of the best metal albums ever though
Yes I agree with 100% on the list of albums.. NOTHING after justice even rates in my opinion.

God bless you cliff, you were not just a bass player, you are a vertuoso with that thing, right hand and left technique is just so unique and talented, my god i wish you were still alive, the guys are still making some fantastic music, you would be proud of 'em, R.I.P brother.

If you knew how to properly write, we would know what the fuck you are saying.
this guy was the only person that made metallica cool
I remember hearing about Cliff getting in an accident when I was about 13. I knew we had lost a great bass player/musician . He blows everyone away. Thanks for the clips. Metallica still jams. But Cliff will always be my favorite.
his hair
cliffs solos were amazing.... the one here from 83 was amazing..but the solos he was doing around the time of his death were crazy. check out cape girardeau 5 42 86 or davenport iowa.5 30 86 blow your mind....... he hardly played any anesthesia, he was just going full tilt.
CLIFF ♥♥♥♥♥♥
What person, let alone 798, would dislike something like this? He's one of the best if not THE best bassist of all times. Like come on, either they're def or they're just ignorant to what talent it. Full truth! \m/
God took him because he was too good for us Mere Mortals! \m/
Cliff Burton knowledge of music,as not just a bassist but as a Musician kept Metallica striving to be better and become Metal making history Mothertruckers. He inspired James, schooled Lars and paved the way for the replacements.A scholar in music Theory, but his technical finger slapping with melodic arpeggios Had never been heard with a Rhythmic metal up your ass sound. The test is history.
Mothertruckers haha. Kewl wordings.
Too bad he only lived to make 3 albums... The only 3 I listen to the whole time.
0:43 his fingers are... riding the lightning
Cliff one of the best bassist in this world that I had ever seen.He can play fast riffs. really great man love from Kolkata, India.
Happy birthday cliff burton :'(
Even though he died long before I was born I’m deeply saddened by his fate.
Happy Bday. RIP (
Damn dude... tears came to my eyes listening to this.
Cliff, RiP old friend I never knew. So much emotion and incredible skill. He makes that bass sing.
A God among men. RIP
No one is replacing the brilliant instrumentalists of the 70's and 80's.
Music has turned to shit.
I feel you brother
Dan Henderson "music has turned to shit" more like "I've become too lazy to look up new music that isn't on pop radio". There are plenty of brilliant musicians these days, the fact that you think music had turnt to shit says more about you.
Jari Stoppelenburg Not even close to what it was in the 60s - 80's.
99% of the greatest guitarists come from that era.
Look it up lazy.
Name a modern guitarist better than Jimmy Page or Jimi Hendrix.
I'm waiting.
Jari Stoppelenburg Name a bass player better than Cliff Burton. I'm waiting, lazy ass
Dan Henderson Guitarists: John Petrucci, Plini, Tosin Abassi.
Bassists: John Myung, Tom Murphy, Nicholas Baggs
All a matter of taste, but that won't matter if you don't even want to try to like it.
For a second I just thought that cliff had six fingers and a thumb
Yeah Me too !
