OMG I literally thought I have to buy 3 level sentry ability in the market somewhere so I was building level 1 sentury all the time... And the moment when I found out I just need to hit it with wrench omgg
Space It still follows the principle of "stronger over time"- the gunslinger as an actual weapon is situational and the Frontier Justice is just a regular shotgun until your sentry gets kills/assists. After going for a while, then Engie becomes more powerful with crit from his mini's work.

But even if you have accuracy and damage, you still need to worry about staying alive and killing them before you get down. The Gunslinger might be able to make you able to survive through dangerous situations with the 150 hp but that still doesn't mean you can be reckless most of the time.
The whole, " an engineer is only as strong as his team." Thing is absolutely true, me and the random casual players over vc coordinated a stock ubered demo push and didn't destroy one sentry that was holding us back because of an attentive pybro and a quick witted spy. Support your engies.

After watching all these Engineering 101 videos, I've learnt that a good engineer has WAY too much to think about when in-game. Now I respect every good engie that I encounter.
In this video you talk about how engis are only good if their teams are supporting them. But outside of your pybro video, you haven't really talked much about how your teammates can support an engineer. How does a heavy help an engi keep his nest up in the heat of battle? How can a sniper support their engi? This would be a really helpful topic to cover for a lot of non engi mains who watch your videos.

Great video. I did know about front lines, but wasn't aware of safe front line and number difference. Not only that the clip near the end was excellent way of summarizing this video, because RED Enginner has placed his building way too aggresively beyond the front line, he was punished by smart awareful BLU Engineer (Uncle Dane). In general, great use of symbolism and good informarions taught. Love it 10/10.
Getting a bunch of kills is not the same as being successful. You can kill almost the entire enemy team by their spawn, but if a spy slips through and spy caps were you successful? Picking off enemies with low health away from the point doesn't stop enemies with more health from winning, and you're weakening your team by removing your sentry, and your own shotgun.
Just wanna take a second to recognize how great and well produced these videos are. I don't even play tf2 much anymore but they're still good enough to keep me interested.

I'm more likely to get stabbed with my back exposed than to get telefragged by a Spy. So I prefer to put my back against a wall, even if it means standing on my teleporter for a few seconds. To be honest, I can't even remember the last time I was telefragged by a Spy.
In my experience, getting telefragged by a spy is so rare that it's almost not worth thinking about. I'll only be cautious of it while I'm removing a sapper.

I feel like Dane is one of the only TF2 UA-camrs who still loves TF2 like they used to, and hasn't completely left for Overwatch and only makes TF2 content because they feel forced to/because that's how they got their fanbase.

I mean, that's kinda what this video is about. Ubered Demomen (at least half-way competent ones) are the direct counter to a sentry gun, there's not much you can do about it except maybe Wrangler or Short Circuit to delay the inevitable. Best to just fall back and figure out what to do next based on who on your team is still alive.

About teleporters: You said that we should place them in a passive position (4:59), but in my opinion, if you can sneak behind the frontline, and find a relatively safe place near the enemy base, that teleport can be a big suprise against the enemy. A good suprise teleport spot is on Granary. I always managed to go behind the frontline, and placed the teleport literally inside their base building, hidden between the missiles. You just have to be lucky enough to not go in the building when an enemy just respawned.
As a rule of thumb, it should be a bit passive. However, there are exceptions to nearly every rule. If you can make a good sneaky teleporter that leaves the enemy team with their pants down, do so. Of course, such opportunities to do a ninja-teleporter are kind of rare.
ninjaneering work only for short bursts of time: sneaking teleport behind the enemy line usually works if done in the correct window of opportunity, and that leaves lesseffective positon for a teleporter. building another teleporter in the same place right after your previus goes down is not gonna work
here are a few more tips for engie: At first place your sentry at a place that it will still be useful but not get as many hits off. then, upgrade it then use sentry jump to get over to a place and the rescue ranger to pick it up. then place it down. or you could walk over there if you want to take a risk and don't have either of the weppons required to do that or the skill. Also, make sure to place the sentry at a surprising place so when they walk by it they won't see it and die. a good place for this would be behind a wall so when they go past that wall the sentry Is there. it could be behind a wall to where they would be going forward and the sentry would be behind them and kill them, but a place like that is hard to find. also, always place the sentry to where it can hit anywhere that things can hit it.
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS MAN! They'll really help me be a better Engie Main. Both defensively and offensively. At first I usually switch the Medic with a Kritzkrieg when on BLU who primarily attack. But watchin' your vids help me learn Engie can be just as effective. Plus, I see that stickin' by your sentry when on defense ain't always the best idea. But perhaps you could help me with somethin', ja? I'm trying to figure what would be good loadouts for offense and defense. Here's what I was thinkin'. Defense: Rescue Ranger, Wrangler, and either the Jag or Southern Hospitality. Offense: either Frontier Justice, Widowmaker, or Panic Attack, Pistol, and Gunslinger. Huh. When I get rocket spammed by a uber solider, sometimes I wrangler jump above them and rescue my sentry and they don't notice. Then I place Ma sentry behind them and finish them off. But yeah, most engies give their life in order to save it. ( most times a spy saps it. Good video Dane

Junnn H I mean if you think about the very nature of Overwatch, Torb's character design is very clever. He's essentially an Engineer built to work in fast moving environments. His actual design, being short too is pure genius since it means a Torb can quickly figure out a Turret's line of site since they're just as tall as him. I thinbk what you've got to remember is that while TF2 is a more tech heavy game in terms of skill ceiling, a lot of Overwatch comes down to movement and situational awareness, as well as team coordination. Having said that I don't play a whole lot of Torb soooo.
y'see, this is why I'm a medic main. All dis strategic placement is too much for my peanut-sized brain. Its much nicer to have someone be your bodyguard while you help them rip babies to shreds.
Ze Medic You don't know how many engies are too dedicated to their buildings. If you run while you still can, you can potentially avoid a useless death and start building where you next need to much quicker. Those respawn times can mean the difference between victory and defeat.
Ze Medic what you said is the stupidest thing to do, especially as a weak class like medic. In most cases, backpedaling is good, run backwards that way you can keep track of enemies and apply pressure, even if it's just some needles, it's even better as pyro as you can airblast projectiles to slow them down. Although you still want to backpedal in unpredictable ways, that was a spy or sniper can't get you by suprise
Hey, If you want nice practice with leaving your base to be destroyed, go on Saxton Hale or Freak Fortress 2 servers. You'll Have to leave your base behind if you wanna live & have a chance at beating the Hale. & as a Sniper main, I've learned to pick my fights(Well, the people come to you so, I just do my best to deal with it).

Whenever I retreat, I try to grab a sentry or dispenser as I run. So that way when I find a suitable spot to rebuild, I already have a head start.

You're making a pretty common mistake, Dane.
You stand on the teleporter exit. A spy could come through it at any time (except setup time lol).

Uncle Dane I like to keep turning around between every swing while not standing on the teleporter to maximise safety against spies.

if you can, call a pyro to help you defend your stuff. the can at least airblast them away.
Get a pyro to airblast the demoman into the air, then launch him away with the knockback from a wrangled sentry.

I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS MAN! They'll really help me be a better Engie Main. Both defensively and offensively. At first I usually switch the Medic with a Kritzkrieg when on BLU who primarily attack. But watchin' your vids help me learn Engie can be just as effective. Plus, I see that stickin' by your sentry when on defense ain't always the best idea.
But perhaps you could help me with somethin', ja? I'm trying to figure what would be good loadouts for offense and defense. Here's what I was thinkin'.
Defense: Rescue Ranger, Wrangler, and either the Jag or Southern Hospitality.
Offense: either Frontier Justice, Widowmaker, or Panic Attack, Pistol, and Gunslinger.

I really want to see a Ghee Juice-style video chronicling the life of a sentry nest on defense, or even just one building; how placement of sentries and dispensers save players' lives. I think that's a visualization that would help a lot of players understand game sense in a more visceral way. Please make it happen, Dane!

When I get rocket spammed by a uber solider, sometimes I wrangler jump above them and rescue my sentry and they don't notice. Then I place Ma sentry behind them and finish them off.
But yeah, most engies give their life in order to save it. ( most times a spy saps it.

you're very correct about correct placement and I love this video because it not only reinforces my current knowledge of good building placement, it also helps newer engineers get a handle on in my opinion, the most important part of being an engineer.
Im not an Engineer player, but I still learned stuff from this video, such as The Front Line, and possible plans of action of friendly and enemy Engineers, in order to counter as Demoman. Thank you, Uncle Dane.

To be fair it may be the fact that I was an Engi main too, but Torb players in Quickplay bug me endlessly with obvious bad decisions and the likes.
While engie has a respectable skill ceiling, torb is just a bad character that needs to be reworked completely imo.

I mean if you think about the very nature of Overwatch, Torb's character design is very clever. He's essentially an Engineer built to work in fast moving environments. His actual design, being short too is pure genius since it means a Torb can quickly figure out a Turret's line of site since they're just as tall as him. I thinbk what you've got to remember is that while TF2 is a more tech heavy game in terms of skill ceiling, a lot of Overwatch comes down to movement and situational awareness, as well as team coordination.
Having said that I don't play a whole lot of Torb soooo.

Ze Medic You don't know how many engies are too dedicated to their buildings. If you run while you still can, you can potentially avoid a useless death and start building where you next need to much quicker. Those respawn times can mean the difference between victory and defeat.
Ze Medic what you said is the stupidest thing to do, especially as a weak class like medic. In most cases, backpedaling is good, run backwards that way you can keep track of enemies and apply pressure, even if it's just some needles, it's even better as pyro as you can airblast projectiles to slow them down. Although you still want to backpedal in unpredictable ways, that was a spy or sniper can't get you by suprise

Hey, If you want nice practice with leaving your base to be destroyed, go on Saxton Hale or Freak Fortress 2 servers. You'll Have to leave your base behind if you wanna live & have a chance at beating the Hale. & as a Sniper main, I've learned to pick my fights(Well, the people come to you so, I just do my best to deal with it).
